Given that the ALICE system is in the vicinity of 50 yrs old, the straps, adjusters and buckles can be replaced or repaired and the suspension upgraded with MOLLE kit, its not too bad at all. Even weighs a few pounds less than the MOLLE and FILBE packs that replaced it. Good video.

I get what you're saying about carrying water. It is heavy, but necessary. In Australia we might carry more than the UK due to the climate. In the army I carried 2 x1 litre water bottles with at least one with a cup, canteen, steel in the pouch. In summer some would also add one or two bottles to the webbing on our AUS70 packs but I never liked that as the weight was too high and given all the military stuff we had to lug as well made it really heavy (I usually had a PRC77 radio set in the top of mine). I would add one or two to my basic webbing, even if I had to ditch the bumpack to make room. Of course these days my waist has increased so I could carry half a dozen, but I digress...We would exercise water discipline and not drink much unless we had guaranteed water resup every harbour. I like the ALICE gear look but I found the frame on one I tried was too narrow and gave me grief. Nice rundown.

The large Alice Pack is the only pack out of a dozen or more that i have had, that i regret selling. They were cheap and plentiful at the time ... somebody begged my pack and i figured i'd get another one ... but price has shot up and its getting had to find one in good condition. Personally i found the pack fairly comfy under moderate weight ... under heavy weight i needed extra padding. I have noticed, the people complaining about the Alice didnt have it set up properly. Currently i have an Alice frame and Straps but no Bag.

Make me a sensible offer for mine, bare in mind courier postage is about £24-ish. I lost your address so email me your offer bexbugoutsurvivor@gmail.com In outstanding condition, and refurbished in the states. I need to sell both frame and pack tho.... No worries if it doesn't suit you, its going on Ebay this summer anyway, but you got first refusal on it....bex

To answer a couple of things the medium ruck doesnt have the three magazine pockets like the large. It has a row of belting for attaching stuff. The keeper for the string on the top of the pack is the original style keeper. Love your channel. I think that was good assessment of the pack.

Bang on Bex. I love to mix, and modify kit. Especially, if it's military gear. Thank you, for your videos. Cheers 🍻 mate.

One thing I find odd, having both a medium and a large is that the side pockets are not the same size between the two (medium has all three the same size and bigger than the side ones on the large pack). Thought if standardized, soldiers could get a routine down of "items x, y, z" go in this pouch.

Why not put same Molle/Pals straps in the pockets? It would serve to hang an emergency radio, field knife/saw or even a solar charger...

You can`t ditch the frame on the large ALICE. There are no attachments for the shoulder straps and the lower back pad. If you want to carry ALICE without a frame, you`ll have to get yourself the medium ALICE. Greetings from Switzerland!
