Would bring the bladder anyway in case of emergency. When you're hiking it's empty and on the campsite it's pretty handy for storage and filtering water with a gravity filter

Great upload Bex. Thanks for your time. I've used all types in the past, in fact my Source 3L gave out this week. More than happy to take your discarded bladder off your hands if you "Wouldn't even put it on eBay", would save hunting around for a replacement.

I use the Virtus Rider BCB with the wide 3ltr bladder, good bit of kit but awkward for mounting outside of a daysack or burgen.

Bex I'm a 75 year old looking at doing short through hikes.( Brighton to Eastbourn 27 Miles). My bag is 1.9 Kilos, Biasha with pegs etc1.5, Bivi 1 foam pa, Jungle sleeping padd brew kit (pocket rocket) plus essentials comes to 9 kilo base weight, thats without clothing. Am I missing something? Ps Never done anything like this before. Please advise, and thanks for your videos and advise.

Minimal clothing shouldn't be any more than a jacket you trust to keep you warm over a T-shirt, you won't need it to walk in, only when you stop, pop hat and gloves in pocket, Pair of socks to walk in and pair to sleep in, leggings to waterproof, change your waterproof jacket to a compact brolly. Food I only take the evening meal and a brew kit. Brekki and lunch can be done in the UK, from a pub or a cafe', if you like. I calculate your kit to be 6.4 kg not 9kg. Jungle sleeping bag 1kg Basha kit 1.5kg foam pad 1kg Pocket rocket 200g gas and brew kit 1kg. Bag 1.9kg Your doing really well. I have a 2 litre water bottle I carry on a shoulder sling, instead of carrying water inside or attached to the pack, and it could also be mounted on the shoulder straps and worn as a chest rig too. If you take (Just add hot water) freeze dried meals, this will save a lot of weight, a good freeze dried meal is about £12. So for less than £25 you have got your self a cheap weekend walking holiday. expeditionfoods.com/ Your smalls kit should only consist of a head torch with spare batteries, and a tooth brush with tooth paste, and a car cleaning micro fiber towel, i use a tiny pill bottle with wash up liquid in as my all round soap. Pop a small first aid kit in for blisters and cuts, and a compression bandage for sprains. A lighter and mapping kit, job done. If you can swap out military kit for camping kit, you will save a lot of weight, but that will incur more cost £££. But done gradually over time, it will enhance the experience. TOP TIP...(Slow down). Don't set your self a time to finish.. 27 mile at just 2 MPH is 13 and a half hour walk. This could be split into 2 days at 6 and a quarter hour walking. Start at 7 AM and half the trek can be done before 2PM, or 3 PM with several 5 minute rest breaks. "Over thinking is over packing" Just stay focused on being (Warm Dry & Well fed) don't rush, take your time, lift your chin to look up and enjoy mother natures planet....Good luck buddy...bex

Great informative video as usual. I'm ex army getting on a bit now 64 years young with bad knees but with a mind of a young squaddie still and still love wildcamping. However with still using my old DPM Bergen and taking the basic essentials like Hammock,Underblanket,DPM Tarp, Bivvi bag, cordage, chair, roll mat, mini footprint, cookware, rat pack the weight all adds up to couldnt hold it for 5 seconds in my hand never mind 1 finger.

In the army you are often told "The thinking has been done for you" perhaps abandon old thinking and simplify. Clothing shouldn't be any more than a jacket you trust to keep you warm over a T-shirt. It sounds like you have hammock and ground camping covered, I would choose just one of the two set ups. The plce bergen 4.5 kg, I dumped years ago for the Berghaus at 2.3kg w/o rockets. A rat pack is weighty, I am experimenting with microwave meal, defrosted and warmed in a pot, add a brew kit job done.... Still can't bring myself to pack my folding chair ...lol bex

Once again you didn't disappoint; food for thought. I like the idea of one set of kit for hammock camping and an entirely separate set of kit for tent/tarp. I have enough kit to do this, just need to sort it.

This made my morning on so many levels! Thank you for a straightforward rebuke to naysayers and critics. I have wondered about using pods for camp coffee. It’s on my list now with a solid technique for brewing. And a spot of sugar in the woods is indeed “ the least of their concerns”. You’ll likely burn off those carbs in ten minutes of activity around camp. So grateful for seeing this today!

A few years later & the DWD's have begun to appear on ebay more often. Usually for around £90. I managed to grab a pair of side pockets for £30 not long ago too.
