Somehow I've now got the "Wacky Races" theme tune running in my head along with "Muttley" and his snigger. Maybe Matt is too young for that particular Hanna-Barbera production (one of their best).
Vague memories of a Junior Johnson quote. When his race team was the first to make a million dollars in a season, he was asked how he did it. “Spend 2 million.” And that, boys and girls, is how you budget for racing. salvete algorithmus
I was waiting for one of the stickers on the front tires to come unglued, slap your helmet, and send you careening into a hurricane sized arch of anti-climatic deceleration; but alas, everything went flawlessly. All Hail The Algorithm!
Kudos for using all of the safety gear (helmet, gloves, wrist-restraints, etc.) and keeping it slow for the shakedown.

Loading angle/breakover fix: Tongue jack. Leave trailer disconnected from tow vehicle, use jack to lift tongue of trailer, put land speed car on, use jack to lower tongue onto tow vehicle hitch.
@dfabeagle718
Жыл бұрын
Yep! BTDT. Except you don't necessarily have to disconnect it - most of them are strong enough to lift the back of the tow vehicle several inches. The one on my car trailer will get close to lifting the rear end of an F150 off the ground. Alternatively, a couple of 2x12xWhatever the length of the Honda is could get double duty as longer flatter loading ramps and be Honda sized decking (quick mount, bolt them down.)

You need to build (or integrate) a shop-wide gantry, to move stuff. Then you could electrify it, and then computerize it, so it can be a GIANT 3D printer! You could print a whole car!

The key to living with the hoist casters is to "steer" them around with a rubber mallet to point them in the direction you want to roll.

Just a heads up or maybe a little tip, I would recommend “fish platting” that trailer tongue extension it is a dot requirement when welding a frame at least on trucks or cars but that’s just my experience I trust you have read up on repairing trailers and your background I’m sure helps! If you take an air compressor with you or some kind of air supply, letting some air out of the trailer tires might also help with the angles, for loading and unloading. Well done on the shakedown!

working the first time shows how long you worked and planned 10/10 ALL HAIL THE ALGORITHM
We love your work Matt! Thank you
I love this stuff! the amout of accomplishment i feel watching any one of your videos is immense haha Keep it all up, this is great!
Here's one tip to preserve your car. Cover the sidewall wheels of the trailer on the inside with some plastic. Due to the aerodynamics at this point all kind of debris or sand will hit the frame or the electronics and especially when it rains water will get into the smallest space. Little work for a big effect especially when the S600 will be on it.
This is such a cool project! Great video and I’m so excited to see the next ones
Been waiting all this time for you to put bowling pins on the trailer, it would have fitted so well with the shape.
I see many laptop comments. That's on the fly tuning. Megasquirt always has some problems with the crank sensor. A VR sensor works on most applications, but the Hall Effect sensor is more reliable. There is a lot of noise with the VR sensor, especially if the air gap is too large and at high rpm. If the resistor doesn't fix the problem, switch to the Hall sensor. This was a lot more reliable for me. Also, if you are using a MSD, it wont trigger below 70 rpm.
just love watching you build stuff, cheers
I see so many people messing up SO BAD with trailers and towing. It's refreshing to see someone who knows what to look for and how to do it. If you ever put brakes on the trailer, you'll probably need to rewire the whole thing, please make a video of this (mostly as a towing safety PSA). And keep up the good work 👍
Love the trailer video Matt! ( I mean, the first drive, whatever ) Keep 'em coming.

Trailers are somewhat fascinating, just wish someone would build a trailer that can go backwards using AI steering. Too many videos on YT of people reversing, and jackknives... But do you have an interest in burnouts? I hope that someone does a burnout on the salt flats in this somewhat supersonic car before each run. :)
First comment on a first drive video! Nice work, Matt. Loving your videos. I fuel injected a DRZ400SM using a Microsquirt from DIYAutoTune, still working on getting it fine tuned, but it mostly works.

Instead of jacking up the back of the tow vehicle to change the break over angle. I personally would deflate the trailer tires and get an extra 3 inches that way. But that’s just me. You do you and I’ll keep watching

Extend the cherry picker arm so you can drop Speed-Needle right onto the trailer. Or overhead engine hoist that can move on the ceiling. Hydraulic table that comes out of the ground!
I really appreciate your videos. Great inspiration for my own [Vespa] LSR build, which is also taking a year longer. At least now I have the excuse of the salt flats flooding.
