It's so interesting to listen to a podcast talking about world events from 2 years ago. I agree that it would have been nice to have listened to this at that time and been given a bit of break from all the sad world news. I was listening to some other podcasters at that time who did the same.. recognized the events and then continued on.... I'm in the camp of usually only knitting shawls (LOL), blankets, scarves and little things such as Christmas ornaments (Arne and Carlos). However, I now have 2 garments on my needles and I'm excited to see them finished! LOVE the little bird... SO CUTE. One of these days I intend to make a few from Arne and Carlos' book.

Thanks Laura for a fun episode, it really does help to cope with the world’s challenges by concentrating on our shared craft for a bit. Loved both your sock patterns. Australia is of course, in most places, a lot hotter than England. I’m lucky to live in an area that actually has 4 seasons and quite a cold winter, but as is the way in Oz the summers are extreme with our normal range being mid to high 30s and even over 40. So knitting in the summer can be tricky. I tend to use cotton and linen or lace weight projects and probably more crochet than during the rest of the year - so a long way of answering you question - yes I knit by seasons. We in Oz are used to being upside down so the northern hemisphere release dates just give us time to plan for the next season’s cast ons. I also love the Folly Dolly pattern. Thanks again for a great podcast.

I think the colour of the sweater you are wearing really suits you, and I am glad you have found a way to wear this colour. I knit all things, all year round - I start off knitting for example, a summer top in summer, and then in winter I may see another lovely summer pattern that I just have to make! Also, I do a lot of charity knitting and find I am fitting in my personal knitting projects in between. I used to make lots of knitted toys for my children and grandchildren - they can be fiddly to make, but such great fun!! Enjoy making the deer!

Your blue sweater colour just pops your eyes! Lovely combo. As for your seasonal questions… I knit all my summer garments late winter and all my winter garments throughout spring and summer (as they require more time). I tend to use fall for Xmas/ gift knitting. I like to ensure I have my seasonal garments ready for the season coming.

Thank you for one hour of yarn and knitting joy. I mostly knit seasonally, summer tops in spring/summer, jumpers, hats, mits in winter, socks all year round. Somehow that is how patterns appeal to me and how the garments are needed.

I’m just watching now and I completely agree with you about the state of world. The way I deal with it personally is that I shouldn’t stop doing something I enjoy or stop being happy because other people suffer (as long as what I’m doing is not causing the hurt). If I did feeling happiness because others hurt I would never be happy as there are also hurt and sorrow going on. And me finding some happiness doesn’t mean I don’t worry or care. And this actually give me more strength to care.

I can dwell on the horrors, pain, and suffering happening in our world. But I cannot help anyone by getting myself in a deep depression. I will knit, work in my garden, cook, bake and pray that the world will come together to become a more gentle place. I have considered buying shirts at my thrift store and cutting them into “dickies” to wear under my sweaters. That ruffle on the sock is everything.

Hello Laura ! I, too, saw that green Nutiden yarn on a podcast or IG and suddenly had interest in the yarn. My list of "want to knit/knit with" is never ending. Folly Dolly is, of course. On that list. Please be sure to put "the LovelyAnna's" podcast info in the show notes. Thank you for releasing today's podcast- the "distraction" was needed on many levels.

Though I've been watching you since day 1, you've renewed my sense of belonging. Brilliant 👏 A note about the highly-coveted, selective, to-die-for Danish unspun yarn: if you can't get your hands on any, (!) Schoolhouse Press has gorgeous unspun Icelandic. 🥳 It's a lofty dream. Who says you can't have it all? 🥳

That’s so lovely to hear! The soufflé is definitely intermediate or ambitious beginner, so the skill you might want to master before trying it is knitting in the round, increasing and working with mohair! The petit soufflé is definitely easier so if there’s a small person in your life that might like one then that might be a good place to start as well! X

I just love your brain, I’m so in awe of how people design knitwear, and understand the process and construction of knitwear so intuitively. I completely relate to how you speak about colour and how you feel wearing colours - completely the opposite way round for me, neutrals and some softer tones I find very emotionally draining to wear, and I find a lot of comfort and joy in deep, saturated or bright colours and intricate patterns. Brains are, as I say, so very interesting! I think that blue jumper suits you so beautifully, it’s just the right blue to bring out your eyes - I always think certain blues work as neutrals too. Thanks for another great episode! 🤍

I am knitting all year round in the US, otherwise, I'd never finish my projects. However, I do choose the lighter projects for warmer days and warmer ones for cooler days. In California, the weather is never predictable, we will have hot days like 100' FH and then it could rain or be snowing in the mountains 100 miles away.

I started knitting about 8 years ago. I knitted only scarves, cowls, and shawls because I am a larger gal and garments were intimidating. I came out of the closet when Ranunculus came on the scene. I have made several sweaters since. I garden in spring and early summer so no knitting then. But I wish I could get in the habit of knitting summer items in winter and winter projects in summer. Then when appropriate season comes along, I have new garments.

I don’t knit seasonally. I’m in New Zealand, summers just coming to a close but in the last 3 months I’ve knit 4 childrens sweaters for this coming winter, a knee length cardigan for myself, a jersey for myself and a jersey for my husband, along with 6 or so socks and 4 beanies. I don’t tend to knit as much in winter (I know that seems strange) but I like to knit in good light even though I don’t actually look at what I’m doing and in winter there’s less hours. I am on a bit of a knitting buzz at the moment though after a couple of year hiatus so who knows maybe I’ll be knitting a lot through this winter.

I totally understand how you’re feeling about carrying on with your life amidst the chaos in the world! We are very not Ukrainian but we are heavily involved with this community here in Canada. Because of omicron we had to postpone our ‘Malanka’ which is the Ukrainian NY Eve, which is happening today. My daughter is scheduled to perform/dance and I thought how can she dance while Ukrainians are fighting for their country!!! The organizers of this event have revamped the theme and essentially the whole event, that it will now be an event to celebrate Ukraine culture and stand in solidarity with Ukraine! It’s still going to be a hard evening but we must carry on! So, after all that! Thank you for posting your video! It’s a great distraction as I’ve shut off all social media -can’t handle anymore devastating news!!! I LOVE ❤️ that blue sweater! Stunning on you!🤩

Your lovely blue eyes are complemented by the blue wool sweater .... you wear it well. The color block socks.... a new classic. And I think you are very brave to have shared the issues and discovery process of your ‘evolving diagnosis’. In this world we all know people who have or are struggling, and open discussions come across as ‘help’. Most struggles are better shared, and not handled in isolation. Keep up the good work and keep your chin up.

Love the tri-colour sock :-) In Denmark we do have an ice-cream (1 liter package) in the same colours :-) Vanilla, Raspberry and Chocolate.

Sometimes I think that the universe is just pointing me towards certain patterns! Just the other day, by complete accident, I stubled upon Aniela's instagram and fell head over heels for her Folly Dolly Jumper! And then you uploaded your lovely podcast, which means everything else gets put on hold for some me-time, and there you are talking about Aniela's lovely jumper! Coincidence or faith, I would love to knit up the Folly Dolly Jumper! 😍 And I can't wait for the release of the soufflés, absolutely adore the ruffles! Keep up the amazing work! ❤

Thanks for another great podcast. Love the rib socks and would definitely buy the pattern. I knit all year round, I live in the tropics and we are in the middle of a heatwave and it’s very humid. Luckily I have air conditioning so am knitting beanies and scarves ready for a charity in another part of our country where it gets really cold in the winter.

I definitely don't knit seasonally! I've knit flip top mitts in May, Xmas stockings in August and jumpers and hats whenever the feeling takes me.

The petit soufflé is gorgeous 😍 love it so much! I try to knit one season ahead if I can. So I do knit seasonally but I try to be organised so I can wear them straight away. The only time I do summer knits is the spring then sweaters and cardis the rest of the time. I think it’s very normal though to knit sweaters all the time! Loved this podcast as usual 😘

Thanks for a lovely hour of distraction. I would absolutely purchase both/either of those sock patters if you found time to write them up - both stunning and a guide across a large age range is so useful, especially for someone like me who's fairly new to socks and definitely doesn't have a feel for the sizing yet. I'm also happy to keep knitting jumpers through the summer.....let's face it, most of the time summer in the UK is still jumper weather anyway! I probably wouldn't reach for anything in a chunky yarn in summer though. Interestingly the reverse doesn't apply to classic summer knits like camisoles, which I never get the urge to cast on until April/May.

I think the ribbed socks are just darling and I think that as a pattern is a winner! I'd agree with the idea of making them baby to adult. Go for it! I knit seasonally because I just can't stand to have that project on my lap in the summer. But I'd say August would be perfect for a chunky pattern. Or release it now and then do a Kal or have a sale on it later in the summer like a re release.

So happy for you to ask if I knit seasonally. Because I am not a quick knitter I tend to knit a sweater during summer so I can wear it in fall and winter. It is so nice if there are patterns all year around, so anyone can choose when they want to knit whatever they want. Not only hence to the season, but also keeping in mind their own speed of knitting. 🤎
