The Kings Live "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide"
Музыка
Here is a rare chance to see the original Kings line-up re-united for a benefit show to raise money for Camp Trillium which helps youngsters with cancer. Organized by Ken Hadall, this show from the early 2000s was in the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts which seats around 500. Kings fans will recognize a lot of the footage here from our official video for this segue, one of the over 40 sources used to make it. For those who never got to see the original guys, here is your chance, and it's pretty great.

Excellent to hear that @psycho6275, keep at it!
I've always had a weird reaction to this song. It makes me cry. I think because it's so good, using a few basic chords and power chords and turning it into magic. It's a happy cry. I'm humbled in its presence. It's bigger than all of us. It's close to rock perfection. This is the spirit of rock and roll.

Hey James Chriss, thanks for your heartfelt comment, it means a lot. We put a lot of work into this and the reaction it gets here on youtube is very humbling for us. We've never been what you'd call 'successful' in terms of money or fame but the love we get from people like you makes up for it. I saw these guys open up for SURVIVOR before they got big in 1980 at Illinois Institute of Technology amphitheater.. THE KINGS were very energetic the keyboard player did hand stands on the keyboards..What a Show!!! Survivor introduce a new song on their latest album “POOR MANS SON” and They did a cover of 38 special “Rockin into the Night” sung by Jim Peterik…I always think of that show as it was my very 1st concert…Long Live THE KINGS!!!!

@@thekingsarehere I kept running into Jim Peterik as I lived near him and told him 1st time I saw him with Survivor and the The Kings opened up he liked almost was in shocked nearly cry as he said “Oh my God you were there?” that was a fun concert we just started doing small venues at the beginning”. I moved further west from Burr Ridge IL.. haven’t seen him long time. I use to see Chicago newscasters sport figures and James Young and Tommy Shaw & local bands, when I worked at White Hen convenience store. Like I said great show 1st concert!! “So you think I’m an asshole but I’m moving……fav song of the night…..I would like to see you guys again just for old time sake…gotta go 1:40am.

@@metalmark062 That is a great comment metalmark062, we've seen posts on FB where people ask 'what was your first concert' and yes you always remember it, so it makes sense that we were someone's first, and that was you...very cool! And yeah Survivor did ok!

@@thekingsarehere So which band member has been contacting me?? You know I think 1968-1984 were great years of music all those bands I loved that were talented and so underrated, lots of bands..Shooting Star,Mayday,Spy’s,New England,Donnie Iris,Off Broadway,Sniff and the Tears, The Sherbs,Prism,707,Gamma++ and you guys..including Great Metal Bands Armored Saint, Kick Axe, Axe, Grim Reaper,Racer X,all talented no one promoted them so they had like 3 years of touring just getting the name out and never got the exposure…I had written songs but got into Muscle cars and drag racing..One song I wrote was “Switching to Powerglide” a song about the famous GMC 2 speed auto transmission called the Powerglide.(Great for racing) I didn’t wanna get sued using your melody…Lol Glad your still around…🤘 🧔♀🤘

@@metalmark062 It's one of us for sure metalmark062 and yeah there was a lot of great stuff in those years and you 're right a lot of good bands just didn't get the exposure but such is the reality of the music biz and record labels and management and all that. As we've said before 'being good has nothing to do with it'. Unfortunately. And yeah watch that melody!

OMFG I'VE FINALLY FOUND IT !!! I've LOVED this song 🎵 ❤ since I was like 14 or 15 years old !! My baby brother Sean and I took turns on who sang lead on which part !! He was 9 or 10 so I usually let him have his way so he wouldn't cry and tell mom I was being mean to him lmao !! I lost him 4 years ago, but hearing this brought back a flood of tears and most importantly a flood of memories!!! Idk if you guys are still out here making music and memories, but I hope you are ! ! And for the record I'm singing lead this time Sean !!

Thank-you so much for this song! (Still crank it till this day) Absolutely an awesome piece that brings back memories of a really good time. I think it's an anthem for those of us who are, you know, OLDER. Look up Ford Theater in Wabash, Indiana. It's a very nice venue that I think you would like playing.

Music triggers so many great memories 65raven, and we were fortunate to come along when rock music still ruled the airwaves. The midwest was huge for us with radio out of Chicago and we always loved playing out there, so we'll look up that theatre and hope someday soon this pandemic will be behind us.
