    i mean honestly you gotta do that and talk about it without breaking down because if you let it consume you all the time it will just ruin you. i saw another video of her telling her story where she said she won't let her kidnappers steal anything else from her, she won't let them have any more power by ruining her life and her spirit, her good heart. she's not going to live her life depressed and fucked up forever because of what they did to her because they don't care and aren't sorry for what they did.

    As someone who is a survivor of sexual abuse and grooming from my own dad, I've been aware of Elizabeth Smart's story for several years and read her book a few years ago. However, I've never heard her talk as openly and candidly as this. I'm in awe of how honest she is and how comfortable she seems sharing such horrific details about what happened to her with a man. I don't mean that in a sexist way but I know how difficult I would find it opening up to a man about such intimate details so I applaud them both for having this difficult conversation. I can also relate to how matter of fact she sounds at times and I know people in the past have often found it strange when I talk about my own childhood experiences of abuse without showing a great deal of emotion. The truth is it's such an incredible relief to be able to share the darkest parts of my memories and the thoughts I once had that it makes me feel so much lighter. Once you remove and detach yourself from the personal shame and guilt you wrongly carry from being abused then you automatically feel so much lighter. The shame and guilt only belongs to the perpetrator of abuse like Elizabeth said and I handed mine back to my dad a long time ago. It's his turn to carry the burden of guilt from now on as it NEVER belonged to me and I carried the weight of it for over a decade. I'm also very fortunate that the coward eventually pleaded guilty to his crime against me in court. It will never be justice for what he took from me but at least I found some sort of closure in him finally admitting his guilt (even though he later went on to deny it again) Thank you so much for this discussion. It really helped me and I'm sure I'll come back to it again in the future.

    Hearing this woman speak is so powerful. The focus on not victim blaming by both Elizabeth Smart and TG is commendable and hopefully it puts into perspective how victim blaming is a very damaging thing to do. I also think her understanding when it comes to how her case was handled by police as well as holding the courts and the police accountable for their mistakes and actions is SO important.

  • @chvrlotte1342

    @chvrlotte1342

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@nasheeds8218 I think everyone would agree that it is equally important that we disgrace the woman aswell, I don't think gender should even come into this as they were both equally horrible. I'm sure that's how a majority of people think, the people who say the things you asked about are speaking of a broader issue I think, such as the sexual harrassment/rape issue that is majority male problem and so we're switching the mindset from "make women dress proper and they won't get assaulted" to "teach your sons better values". It allows for a healthier mindset in terms of victim blaming and solving the true problem, this is not blaming all men however it assures that most young men can identify these problems and help prevent them in the future. Thank you for asking, we need to educate whenever we can

    Speechless mate, your story has no doubt changed the world. It certainly changed how i see it, the human condition is one thing we wont ever fully understand and to see how you talk about this in such an emotionally cognitive way is on the border of what little we do understand. Crazy what people are capable of on both sides, much respect to you.

    True G... the way you handles this entire situation was utter class. You made her so comfortable and she really accepted that. For someone in her shoes to talk will never be easy, and you guys should both be so proud of the way this was put together. I think she’ll appreciate you as a human for how you handled the whole thing. Sensitive issue but one that should be highlighted and dealt with more. Keep up the good work. Genuine guy who helped tell the story the way she wanted without feeling forced. Big respect

    I was literally thinking the exact same thing. If Madeleine is still alive, it’s been 14 years. One can only imagine the amount of suffering she has had to go through. Truly the worst side of humanity.

    She is so smart, and strong, it goes to show that some people have walked through hell and have the strength to guide themselves through and come through on the other side. Also, massive well done to Brian, you can see that he is trying to go about things in the nicest way possible, and you can see that he’s genuinely close to tears for 90% of this, again advocating for women as well as showing that men can show emotion. Well done all round!

    I watched every second visually, which I never do, this kept me awake as my usual background noise to sleep. Ms Smart, I’m genuinely speechless, I adore the way you approach this, steel headed, no nonsense. Didn’t grasp the world this puts people in, I hope you carry on spreading your message, I wish you the best. TG, very different vibe, not disappointed, keep the range as wide as possible.
