This is what ive done for a while now. 1998 - 2010 is the time when superbikes where the best. Yes they are technically better and smarter now with electronics etc but those "older" bikes were just pure fun. I call my collection my bedroom wall collection. I need a 998, a 999 and a few others to have the full poster collection 😍😍😍😍
You make me nervous when you say we will strip it all down, look what happened with the Ducati, some self control may be needed.😂 Love this type of thing, watching you tinker on the bikes, looking forward to this series.
The K8 is in amazing condition and let’s be honest all of us want to keep every bike we buy but room and finance prevents.. Love the idea of getting decent 2nd hand bikes for the channel
Pretty DECENT?? It LOOKS AMAZING!! How can you be SO PICKY? OHH MY GOD..!!

Because he's spending his own money. I'd do the same. You start with perfection & work backwards which is how you figure out what it's worth to you. Being very particular & picking up on all the imperfections, no matter how small, also gives you maximum bargaining power when making the deal.
I bought one of these new in 1998 and put 97,000 miles on it! Mixture of trackdays and then years of commuting it into central London. By then it was a bit of a shed. The exup valve seized and so was lock-wired open (ruined mid-range), all the fairings were cable tied on as it was crashed several times. It ended when it got stolen in London. With the insurance payout I bought another one the same, only mint. That got stolen 3 weeks later. I loved those bikes.
Bloody hell, that chain and sprocket 😮🤯

At least there won't be any gunk to clean around the front sprocket cover, as the chain looks like it's never been lubricated in its life!

Give over, there is still a good decade left on that! 🤣
Cracking idea for a series. I am one of those people you mentioned, low (relatively) income, finance-adverse, so I love seeing bikes which are obtainable outright for people like me. Buying with the intent to sell also means you can maybe explore more genres and types of bikes than you would otherwise buy to keep, which will be great for viewer and yourself alike. Can't wait to see it!
I'm in my 32nd year of riding now, and have sold all my "new" bikes in order to hunt down the bikes I so desperately wanted when I first started. 1998 R1, 2000 RC51, 1999 Hayabusa in gold/silver, K1 GSXR1000, TL1000R, RC8, etc... Love modern bikes, but there's a hole in my heart that can only be filled by the bikes I've always loved.
Remember drooling over the R1 at the NEC. Looking forward to episodes, still a lovely, lovely bike and with more than enough power for us mere mortals. Remember no ABS or traction control!! Good buy LCR
Sensible decision Chopsy, looking forward to the new projects. 👍🏻
I think it is a great idea to buy used bike, upgrade it, make few videos and then sell it. Few suggestions to consider: 1. once you have a bike, make options for people to vote what upgrades to do. This might help to bump up views and comments and maybe even the tickets sales if you put it in a raffle. 2. when upgrading make the videos more like how to manuals, so people can see what is needed to install similar upgrades on their bikes
Brilliant idea! Looking forward to to the series. Older bikes rock!
My first 1000cc sports bike chops! 4xv R1 👍 I was 26 (48 now) gearbox can be a bit clunky - although I don’t recall issues from 1st to second. Get a steering damper though, both the 4xv & 5jj like a tank slapper, especially after a wheelie 😊 these dominated the sportsbike era at that time, right up until the k1 1000 came out
@DMRMOTORSPORT

Will second that.....I had the worst tank slapper ever on my 98 R1. I quickly bought a GPR steering damper for it.
That's a great idea and a good addition to the channel. I am sure it will get good coverage and support from you followers. Its a nice bike the R1. I had a GSXR1000 K1 and that was a good bike. Looking forward to following the new series.
Wow! an all stock 4XV for 3500 is such a crazy deal. I've owned a 99 just like this one for 20 years. I've put 55K miles on mine and its been amazing. The 1-2 shift has always been notchy and I heard so many horror stories about the transmission that I was always worried mine would blow up. Never did though. I'm still on the original clutch. I find good oil (my bike hates anything thinner than 15w 40) and keeping the chain extremely well lubed makes all the difference with the shifter. Awesome bike! looking forward to future content.
That's a great idea for a series. Alarms best place is in the bin. Maybe one to put on your list rsv mille. :)
What a sad day,I have a k7 & enjoyed watching you do upgrades on the bike & you having fun at track days. Sad to see the old girl go:(
I'm excited for the new rout for the channel. Excited to see the R1 finished
Great idea! Cannot wait
Looks amazing, apart from the blue screen! Love it
You will love the R1. I have a all original 98 which I imported from Japan. They still feel like a modern bike & relatively comfy. Gearboxes are a bit clunky, just the way they are. Only niggle I have with mine is the exup servo motor sometimes sticks which shows as the tachometer reading 7000rpm then back to zero periodic. Easy to access with the hinged tank. Looking forward to the videos on it. Greetings from Melbourne AU
Spot on Chopsy I think the new concept sounds brilliant the older machines are still great to ride and can really crack on. It'll be great to reminisce some of the old flagship models and maybe some of the underrated gems.... can't wait
Great idea chopsy. Looking forward to future videos. Keep up the great content. 👍
I remember seeing one of the first ones here in Ireland, fabulous bike. It moved the game on like the original Fireblade had in 92. Looking forward to this series.
I had one of these same colours with fuel injection and what a machine in the day, my wrists hated it and had to sell after 3 months, the most i remember of it was it didnt really need a front wheel and tyre
Love this format of video! A refreshing change. Also really looking forward to this series, a great concept idea which is different. Can’t wait!!

Yay, thank you!
I like your strategy, more than just reviews (which I think you do very well!) and your workshop stuff you do well. Sort of a motorcycle version of wheeler dealers, and we know how successful that became!
Great idea mate, love older bikes. Ive got a 97 reg bandit and its good seeing other older bikes out there. Looking forward to it 🫡
Great idea Chopsy, looking forward to seeing how this goes.
Still to this day my favourite bike had my first in 2004 you'll not be disappointed
Good good I look forward to this. I was sorry to see when TMF stopped his reviews on older bikes. 😎🇨🇦
Great idea can't wait for this new series mate 👍
I love this idea a practical superbike workshop video series😊
This is a great direction for the channel, as rider of three modern classics in my garage always interested in restoration tips and info to suppliers of parts, looking for to the content on the R1 👍
Good plan, will be watching.
Wow, great new format John. I had exactly the same model R1, you forget just how good carburettors are, so smooth, linear and responsive. Great Video

Yes absolutely instant response quite amazing!
Awesome Chops great idea for a series.. I remember when the R1 came out wow what a classic dude this is going to be epic 😊 Pete 👍
Absolutely love the old R1, looking forward to seeing the outcome 👍🏼
Love it! Look forward to watching.
Absolutely loved that R1 when it came out. Still do.
HUGE upgrade would be ISR brake calipers . ISR still has option of the old type brake mounting yet still modern billet mono block with phenominal feel/power on par with brembo stylema calipers
Great plan for channel content!
Beauty! Change is as good as a rest Chopsy!
This is an excellent plan. I can see a lot of bikes being bought and sold in your future.
Hell yeah! Can’t wait to see some more affordable bike content on your channel. Maybe even a future BBB collab with the 44’ers.
Looking forward to your new series - I love the carb-to-Fi era of bikes (I have a '98 VFR800). Just don't take 2 or 3 years tarting each one up! 😅
Love the OG R1 what a great bike and a great idea for the channel. Hope all goes well with it ❤
Raffles are a great idea. Gives a chance to people who can’t afford a nice bike to own one.
Great idea, There’s some great older bikes out there 🏍️👍
Will be good to see some affordable machines in the channel thanks .
Sounds like a good plan and should make for a lot of fun content 👍👍
R1 looks awesome! cant wait to see the videos on that 😁
Good idea, looking forward to it! 👌
Great idea John!! Love the concept

Great stuff 👍
I’ve still got my 4XV R1 had it for 16 years I don’t ride it as much now as I have another bike but I just can’t bring myself to get rid of it. Clutch cable needs a bit of patience to replace & it had new gearbox internals after munching 2nd gear (probably rider error as it does love a wheelie!?😮) engine wise they’re superb the carbs will probably need a clean up, that bike looks mint tbh, you can’t go wrong with it. 😎👌
That's a great idea for the channel Chops
Really love your idea of the used bike builds bud. It gives those of us hope of getting some really nice machines, (not on pcp) lol. And the R1, nice. 🎉
Sounds like a great plan. Could be a niche market for bikes of a bygone era. Fond memories of my Kawasaki 1100 B2 with fuel injection. The fuel gauge blocks disappeared rapidly.
Would have been happy to bid on that! Hope the new owner enjoys it.
…didn’t see that coming, Chops. Great bike to let go but I get the logic. The R1 should be a lot of fun, they’re basically sound so shouldn’t fight you too much. Usually exup seized, and rear linkage wears. At that mileage check front bushes & guides as well. Enjoy! 👍👍
Brilliant idea! We can vicariously choose and buy a new bike through you!! Save the room in the garage and the wrath of the household management director! 👍👍
Sad you had to let it go but I see why. Content an channel wise it makes sence. On words an upwards chops 💪
brilliant idea look forward to it :)
I was surprised at the condition of the chain and sprocket when the rest of the bike was so mint! Nice choice though, they are lovely bikes.
Some nice diversity to the channel :)
Looking forward to this chopsy great idea for the new series
I had one in those exact colours, very nice 👌
I love your garage. Spotless and a place for everything. You'd know you are an IT professional! 🤣👍

Haha well it's not allways like that 😅
Just catching up with the channel. Was worried what you were going to replace the K8 with but totally love the choice of the '99 R1 - exactly the bike I've been interested in as well. This is a great idea for a video series. There's so many cool, unwanted older bikes now it's ridiculous. After the R1? What about an RSV R 1000 Factory? Great idea, really looking forward to seeing the videos on this 👍🏻

Yeah absolutely Kyle love the RSV 🤩
Lovely bike Chops! If I remember correctly these original R1's have a common problem with 2nd gear.
Good idea 👍
Brilliant idea for doing up and flipping the older bikes be intresting content to watch and help others to do similar. Youd have no shortage of buyers. Raffle idea could work well also. Id have offerd to buy the gixer also
Great idea Chops! Raffle or sell…whatever makes more sense financially to keep this new series going. Yep I’m on board for sure, love this idea👏
Great work Chops, change is good! Love me a Yamaha!
Amazing idea 😁
Selling bikes to make room for more bikes, you are a sic sic man Chops, and I love it !!! Love the idea you've come up with, can't wait for the refurbishment but please don't forget about the ZX7 I've been hanging out for that beast. Cheers mate

Nice idea for the channel Chopsie, i would love a Gixxer but can't ride spirts bikes anymore and am struggling to part with my foxeye blade as its just so beautiful!
LOVE IT!!!!
Good idea. Lots of guys and girls riding around on these so there should be a lot of interest..

But you may regret selling the Gixxer. I went from a k5 to a k7 and then an L7 before being seduced by the S1000RR K67 and all its lovely gadgetry. I still miss the L7 as it was such an easy bike to ride fast without doing stupid speeds…
Love these. Was my first ever experience of a superbike. Picture the scene: had been riding around 1yr. Owned a Suzuki 600 Katana (the 'teapot'). 1999 Yamaha were doing a national promotion. I trotted off to Flitwick Yamaha. Took out a red a white one for the day. To say mind warping insanity of a level I'd never even considered was a thing. I went for an overtake that I knew would be OK on the Katana.. gave it a fistful in 2nd or 3rd. Without knowing what I was doing or any skill to to it, I pulled a wheelie past this artic that culminated in soiling my leathers whilst I then let go of the throttle, got an almighty tank slapper, by which time another artic was approaching on the other side. For the love of God I got past. Pulled in at the nearest stop. Giggling in shock and then had to sit down before I thought I'd pass out. I rode my Katana home and thought it was a heavy, slow and didn't turn. Neither did it try to spit me off. I went out and bought a Zx7r a week later 😊

Haha brilliant! Well hopefully that won't happen to me...
Looking forward to the series. Great idea. Modern top of the range bikes to expensive.
the blue ones were sold a lot more than the original red and white ones . i had a 98 red and white and wished i had locked it away if i knew they were going to go up like they had. just be careful chopsy the originals were very prone to shaking there heads and got alot of guys in trouble if yours has a steering damper fitted no probs but if it doesnt and you hit a shitty road at high speed you can end up with a serious headshake or worse i know a few guys ended up of or highsided them due to that. i learnt my lesson on mine after serious wobble and put a damper on it straight away and it cured it straight away. sold mine for a brand new 1994 R1 which is still an epic bike today owned that for 8 years
Absolutely fantastic chamnel idea mate
Looking forward to the videos of the R1 I’ve got a W reg one I’ve had it about 12 years and have no plans of selling it anytime despite having a 2022 S1000 RR still love the R1
Some great bikes out there at about £4K. You’d be able to buy, ride for a bit, and selling for the same price. I’d love to see your thoughts on riding an older ZX6R.
@LambChopRides

Yeah exactly 👍
That R1 looks great for its age and mileage
Excellent idea for a new series! However always disappointing to see a GSXR go 😢
Grrat idea Chops! 🇦🇺
It's OK Chopsey, although my heart is hurting to see the K8 go, it's a rational decision and the K8 will be used more which is what it's meant to do. I have a K9 myself and I consider it "unsaleable" as its a fantastic do-it-all superbike. The R1 is a great project and I can't wait to see it on the channel. Having said all of that, bring on the ZXR mate I Been waiting for ages 😅
Just this week, I've decided to do something similar, except I won't be youtubing or giving it away🤣. I've gone a tad further left-field, I'll be buying a last of the line, immaculate(although I'll find some jobs to do), translucent hero blue Buell XB12S. It will be a contrast to my newer stuff in the garage. Can't wait😬
Great idea be good to see the mechanics of what you do on these older sports bikes I would say once you are done with each bike auction it off on eBay to one of your subscribers
Looking forward to this.
Get that datatool off before it craps itself! Mine did! Gearboxes are a bit agricultural but you do learn to live with it, I think you're gonna be hard pushed to give it away when its completed, looking forward to this :)
Definitely a good idea, really looking forward to the new content. Also just an idea, but if you're thinking of auctioning the bikes, it might worth talking to Matt Armstrong (the car KZreadr that does up cars) then auctions them off through his girlfriends company. I'm sure he will have a lot of good advice.
Do a oil change and replace the chain and sprocket first, that will tell you if the 2nd gear clunkiness is something to be concerned with, both effect the gear change 👍
Ooh that r1 is an absolute beauty. Looks pretty tidy. I’d love a 99. I’d loose that blue screen 😂 ❤
That is sad news Lamb Chop but I look forward to your series no the older bikes.
Shame to sell the GSXR ! But nice to see an R1 coming in 👍😀 I had a few of these back then, raced them in street stocks club racing, the 5JJ model was better but the 4XV was the original modern sportsbike ! Good skills
Sounds like a great idea, and there's some tasty bikes out there in that price range! I also.prefer the original R1 in blue........looks more classy 😍
sounds good, a "legends" series
