The Jubalaires are the missing link to hip-hop/rap history. They were 30/40 years ahead of their time and they basically STARTED a form of music that wasn't further developed until decades later. Insane. Glad youtube recommended this lost piece of rap history to me. It was a great rabbit hole, i hope i can find more music similar to this from the same time period, or maybe even predating this.

To all the naysayers- this is definitely rap. Not to get technical, but the two elements of rap that make it unique are the rapping itself and the background sample. The background singers sing a very simple repeated harmony line that sound exactly like a sample, and the lead guy is certainly not singing. He is rapping. So yeah, this is rap.

Damn this group is good. I keep underestimating songa prior to the 60s. It's funny because this style is way more unique than what we have nowadays. I can't even describe this, just say that this music is absolutely awesome.

Crazy to think this has existed for 80 years. We're teleported to the time this was shot and it feels new to us, but these men went home and lived through 40 years of history before most of us were born.
