The Journey Of A Purdue Fan

Purdue basketball sucks in March. That statement has rung true for a long time at Purdue University. While our basketball team has had immense success, year after year we fall short in March Madness. However, this year was different...
In this video, you'll get an inside look at my passion for Purdue basketball and the community of fans that make every game LOUD. My story, along with many others like it, is what makes the Purdue basketball community a special place.

I grew up in West Lafayette as well. My grandpa saw Mount, my dad and uncles saw Big Dog, and I’ve seen everything from roughly 2007-08 and onwards. I had never shed an adult tear over a basketball game, until the end of the Elite 8 game. I thought of all the highs, the lows, the injuries, the letdowns. The relief of getting the monkey off our backs. The excitement of what might come next. Most of all, I thought of everyone who wasn’t with us anymore to see it finally happen. And I cried.

Great video! I come from a big family of sports fans on both sides. Whenever the whole family got together, politics and religion were never discussed. The main topic was BIG 10 athletics. Half the family was Purdue and sadly, the other half was IU and a small sprinkle of MSU. Purdue's first Final Four w/ Rick Mount in 1969, I was a junior in high school. I graduated from Purdue in 1974. In 1980, all my fellow Purdue alumni teachers I worked with got together to watch Purdue vs. UCLA. My only regret is that my uncle passed and did not get to see the 2023-24 Purdue Team. Like your dad and grandpa, my uncle instilled the love of Purdue in me. During the TN game, my sister dropped the news on me that her grandson (my grand nephew) will be going to Purdue this fall. I am so excited and can't wait for him to become a a Boiler!

Boiler up is a mediocre slogan for an historical mediocre program. By the way my favorite program is top three all time in all time NCAA history and holds the NCAA record for most Final Four appearances and plays in a majestic elite arena unlike Purdue. I am a spoiled NCAA basketball fan unlike Purdue fans.

@@JTH-hm8ew the fact that you felt the need to ramble like this to me on a Purdue KZread page screams high levels of insecurity for your team.

Nice story but Fred Schaus was not the coach for Purdue in the 1980 final four. It was Lee Rose. In 1969 it was George King as coach.
