Saw Fairport Convention there for their "Fairport Nine" tour - they opened with "Hexhamshire Lass" - great show. Still kicking myself for missing Gentle Giant there.

Truth and Godspeed were some very good local bands.

Such a short lived place. Maybe it was the effort to try and find it. Or the Capital in Passaic was just the dominant Rock Palace.

They were indeed - Godspeed and Rat Race Choir were the only prog rock outfits successfully working the NJ club circuit at the time.

I have a United Artists Records press release for Roy Wood (The MOVE, E.L.O.) and his band WIZZARD that indicates he was scheduled to perform at the Joint in the Woods on Saturday, September 21, 1974. They were promoting their new album "Introducing Eddy and the Falcons" and had played the Tower Theatre in Philly the night before...did they appear anywhere else locally?

I saw Strawbs and Renaissance there. I think the property belonged to Becton-Dickinson for company picnics originally.

Thank you for posting this nicely done video!! I never knew of this place as I was too young at the time but interesting part of regional as well as music history. The bands were amazing and sad it was short lived and that it later burned down. As with most things NJ, (expensive) housing always replaces :-(

Thank you for your kind reply. I had the opportunity to be there when I believe it first opened. What I remember was how difficult it was to find. Remember it was the early 1970's. Then going through the woods in my 1973 Vega GT Hatchback. With an under the dash 8 Track system. Being guided by security on horse back. The inside consisted of mulltible bars in all corners?? Not sure on that one. Wish I brought a camera with me. Who knew back then. Take care Jan. 👍

Thank you for your reply. I met one of the owners and was invited to attend one evening. The place was huge with separate bar stations? around the floor. The place seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere. A very short lived establishment.
