Although his popularity was on the rise, he earned less than 3% of royalties and spent most of his earnings on partying. His security was almost nonexistent due to his lifestyle. this was one of the few shows he did in 1970 where he looked happy and it showed with his playing. Probably because he was in Hawaii and away from the normal tour schedule he was able to relax a bit. If you look at the Atlanta show a few weeks before this on July 4th, he looks miserable. He was in debt because of his Electric Lady Studio and his manager wanted him to tour non stop when Jim wanted to record in the new studio.

It was all coming to an end for jimi. But his time in hawaii he really enjoyed, and he felt recharged for a short while. He had friends that didnt want him to leave, and he didnt want to leave also. Billy Cox had a bad trip on something and jimi had to cut his time short cause of it.

@NAPOLEON WILSON Respectfully, I think that's wrong. There were some serious issues with the sound, he was run down and the many pressures he had to deal with were getting to him. You could see he was having a bad day. He played some great gigs after the Isle of Wight. I think because he died soon after, people have sometimes said, "Yeah, man. Jimi was on his way out at the Isle of Wight, you could tell, man." But I think that's just lazy journalist crap. :-)
The footage is so clean, considering when this was recorded. A great song, from an iconic guitarist. May Jimi Hendrix rest in peace. Cheers!

Quality of this material is MINDBLOWING! Yeah Jimi!!!
THIS is probably my favorite filmed Hendrix performance and I don't even particularly like this song that much but he just kills it here. Plays the studio solo even better than the original and then launches off from that. He's fully inspired and obviously having a blast. His version of Johnny B Goode from Berkeley has the incredible playing but it doesn't quite have the joy. This has the joy. The sound is there. The brain and fingers are clicking. The setting is wonderful. Jimi's happy. You love to see it.

I agree, and the Isle of Wight a few weeks later was the opposite, Jimi seemingly had the weight of world on his shoulders then. Having said that, it came out as Feeling, and I think some of that Isle of Wight stuff, In from the Storm, Red House, Machine Gun, Freedom etc, is incredibly good.

Actually, l like that one too. It's odd. At one point he walks behind his amp, never stopping playing, and 30 seconds later when he comes back it seems like he just did a line of cocaine. Then his amps pick up a radio signal and instead of getting flustered Jimi goes with it and plays with it and off it. All very psychedelic. Probably the longest version he ever played of it. Freaky!

zen babaloo if you’re talking about Isle Of Wight, Mitch Mitchell wrote in his book that Jimi thought he tore the back of his pants open when he did his squatting move on stage and he panicked and ran behind the amps and wouldn’t go back out until the roadies convinced him his ass wasn’t hanging out. When he came back out, he was relieved. So he wasn’t doing coke in the middle of the song.

I agree about this performance though. Not one of my favorite Hendrix songs but this version KILLS. I love how much fun he’s having.
Legendary! His guitar point was incredible here, hell the whole band is amazing. Lucky duders in that crowd tripping out to live JHE.
it wasn't a guitar, it was a weapon.

Simply....the GOAT
How come Mitch Mitchell looks completely different on every show? I think his playing is also versatile he really felt the situation, the room, and the energy levels required and played accordingly. Special drummer

I’ve learned that the drumming audio for this show was dubbed over in the studio by Mitchell. The wind that day ruined the original recording, apparently.

@@MightyConch Holy Fuck that's so cool actually. I did notice something was weird couldn't say what exactly.
Monstro!!!!!!!!!🎸 Indiscutivelmente o melhor de todos os tempos!!!!!!
This has to be one of the best live performances of this song ever recorded. God DAMN🤘🏻RIP forever & always Jimi
Obviously this is an amazing video detailing the greatest ever electric guitar player. We're all lucky to see this hi-def footage. You may notice that the drums don't exactly line-up with the sound. That's because Mitch Mitchell went into the studio to re-record his drum parts due to an issue with the live recording.
He really seemed to be in good spirits, enjoying himself and having an absolute blast! Yet, it wasn't very long after this performance, he was gone.
Can't wait. Hope they show it at cinema. RAH next

I filmed his memorial...on my channel.
I remember seeing Jimi in 69 when he played Foxey Lady. He started out the song then started laughing and had to restart the song it was priceless :-) Peace
