In Italy "Sandwiches" like these is supposed to eat It without sauces (BBQ,ranch and many more) The reason that the sauce isn't needed as the sandwich Is already not dry and any sauce would just ruin the taste of it, and here in Italy we don't use sauces anyways for Sandwiches like this lol.

You are selling your people short. They were the inventors of Cheap low budget food, because they didn't have the best available. But made it incredibly well. They made due with scraps that they made cured meats out of/ not top cuts they couldn't afford. Pizza and pasta is as cheap as it gets. Inventors of things like the poor boy and muffuletta sandwich- it was made out of the leftovers from the night before. They were WOPS (with out papers) dirt poor Immigrants- shunned when they came to America. Collectively they are literally the Rocky story. Mangia!

Classic panino with prosciutto crudo and burrata. You could also use rocket salad instead of basil and tomato, or put it in a piadina, which is like a burrito kind of bread. You can also go for other types of cheese, like stracchino, provola, or gorgonzola, which is Italian blue cheese, other types of "salumi" like speck, which is from nothern Italy and it's like smoked prosciutto, and if you want to add some spice I would recommend either hot pepper oil or nduja, which is spreadable spicy salami from Calabria. There are A LOT of panino's recipes you can also find on the internet, so I would suggest you to explore different ones 'cause you can almost put anything in there and certain combinations are really something else. Maybe not traditional, but I like to put some mayonnaise in the mix too sometimes, or like honey mustard. There are really not strict rules about the panino, as it's mostly a thing you make as takeaway, but it's undeniable that some combinations are truly perfect, and the tradition is unbeatable

If you visit Italy, Spain, France, hell, even most respectable restaurants in London, you will notice that they ALL let the QUALITY of the ingredient(s) shine. They take such a pure and simple approach to food that until you are actually in said places and eating at respectable restaurants there, you just won't understand it. The hardest thing to do is to make SIMPLE things taste great which is what Italians and the Spaniards do the best in the entire world maybe next to Japan.
