Why American networks need to reinvent the wheel is beyond me. Look at the American version of the office "lame". This is perfect without an American version. I think an American audience gets this show without it having to be remade. Cult classic.

The American remake of The Office stopped sucking when it wasn't trying to copy the original, and started doing its own thing. Americans tend to miss the subtlety and approach of British comedy, and end up missing the point and ruining the execution, just look at the US version of The Inbetweeners.

Just watching Family Guy (S3E9) where at the funeral of Peter's boss, the boss sits in a high back armchair just like this in a pre recorded video saying silly things to the mourners. And THIS bit (which obviously came a few years later) came rushing back to me. I wonder if it was a nod or half inspired it? I'd be fairly confident the IT crowd would watch family guy, in some ways similar wacky sense of humour! (I'm a huge fan of both). I wonder if they ever tried turning Meg off and on again.

My father was a reprehensible man, and I, like a few others, was waiting for him to die. I know that sounds awful, but it's true. Anyway, when he did finally bite the biscuit, there was a serious discussion between myself and a couple of others if it would be acceptable to recreate the 'FATHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!' element of this scene. Sadly, we bottled out, but there has always been a feeling in the years since that, a) it was an opportunity lost for no good reason, and, b) it would have enlivened what was a mawkish non-event. What a carry on......
