The Irishman: The Betrayal Explained

The Irishman has been the subject of a lot of hoopla lately. Everyone’s talking about the weird deaging and the piercing baby-blues of the computer-generated Irishman Robert De Niro. But the latest Martin Scorsese mob epic is more about ageing than deaging. It’s gesture of slowing down and letting go.
The movie, which stars mafia movie royalty even down to the bit parts, is a tribute to the genre that made Scorsese, but it’s also a nail in its clover-green coffin. Scorsese, an old man himself, is putting to bed the thing that he helped create and stepping aside to let a newer generation speak.
For most of its three-and-a-half hours, The Irishman checks all the boxes of a classic mob flick. But for the last hour or so, it’s something else entirely. It’s sad, slow, religious and also oddly hopeful. Allow us to explain exactly what makes this so.

Finally, somebody else who gets it. The best part of teh movie is the end, where Scorsese finally get tells us about when man, (end of days) is faced with his own mortality, and that's when religion, faith, spirituality, right and wrong- good and bad, creeps in, and starts to haunt you! Deep stuff and well done.

I feel like the ending really shouldn’t be the most important part, i feel the journey and the experience is what drives it

Even if it's not the most convenient movie to watch since it's so long, it is well deserving of the 3 hours. Tremendous movie

This is a very good movie . They want younger people to know that mob lifestyle is not worth it . It is a great 👍 movie and they all deserve awards .

I always recommend this movie to anyone for the underlying message in it. Life is filled with choices. Try to live yours with the fewest regrets as possible. Because either way, we’re all going.

4:26 - The "for some reason" is because she knew that Frank was going to go beat him up after she told Frank the news, and that's exactly what she wanted him to do.

Remember he came in and saw his daughter sad at the table .. it was inevitable that he would’ve asked and she would’ve had to lie to her husband in order to prevent violence

No hidden meaning. Chuckie Obrien infamously had a fish in the car when he went to pick up Hoffa. It's the most known detail of the Hoffa disappearance. Putting it in the movie is historically accurate.

Movie would have been much more powerful and epic had it been true. A lot of mob experts, FBI agents, and guys in that life that were around during the events surrounding the Hoffa disappearance, have all said it’s 90% BS. Goodfellas /Wiseguy is another one that was co written by a bs artist and drug addict, Henry Hill. Of all the mob movies made, Casino is the true masterpiece not to mention a much more fascinating story.

To be fair, "Last Temptation of Christ" is by no means a Christ's biopic. Very far from it. As for The Irishman - of course it's a great movie by a great unique director with great actors
