It's worse when you realise how many times this has happened. Someone goes on stream with obvious intent to harm themselves, and the chat encourages them, claiming that the person is "faking it". No one should have to prove their depression or suicidal thoughts by harming themselves. Fuck every chat member in that stream who encouraged her to drink, or mocked her.

It always angers me when victims don't survive, but a drunk driver does. Edit: I'm not sure how or why that sentence is being misinterpreted. I'd ideally prefer no one dying and the drunk driver learning their lesson, then turning their life around. What I'm saying is, in the situations where someone _does_ die, I rather it be the drunk driver. Others shouldn't pay because of someone else's stupid decision. Unfortunately, that isn't how this usually turns out. Gianna is out on bail now. People like her that don't learn their lesson and don't care shouldn't be allowed in the general public.

My uncle was killed by a drunk driver. The driver got 6 months in prison then was released. Nothing infuriated me more than people thinking it’s cool or even okay to drive under the influence. There is absolutely NOTHING that is important enough to risk killing someone over. Dare I say, I wish the drunk drivers were the ones killed each time. Keep them from hurting anyone else.

That last story makes me think that the entire village was likely involved in trafficking and because of that the government thought it needed to be covered up. So horrible.

The dissapearance of Luo's ashes was big news in China, a lot of Chinese people volunteered to find any crumb of information to take Luo's ashes back to her family.

Glad that there's a happy ending for that woman who fell from the 7 story building. Actually thought she wouldn't make it. Sucks that her boss didn't get life imprisonment; human trafficking and attempted murder should be a big no no

I fell 20 feet in a rock climbing accident. Can confirm, I didn’t make a peep. It happened so fast I didn’t have time to scream. I shattered both heels and broke 2 vertebrae and even as I lay on my back the severity of what happened took what seemed like several minutes to kick in. I just remember thinking “wow, this is embarrassing. I hope nobody filmed this!” Then the pain started to grow and I thought “I’m supposed to fly to Ohio for work on Monday. I’m probably going to have to use a crutch, I think I may have twisted my ankle!” I even tried to get up but a guy ran over and told me not to move and to wait for the paramedics. Turns out, I spent 11 days in the hospital and 4 months in a wheelchair, followed by nearly a year of PT learning to walk again. I still laugh at my initial thought that I’d still be able to fly to Ohio for my business trip. 😂

thank you, SO MUCH, for covering the "father" story. this was like the only thing so many people on weibo cared about when it first came to light in Feb 2022. "woman in chains" was the hottest topic on weibo even when the site was deleting posts and accounts, and at the same time trying to boost the popularity of the topic/posts/news of Eileen Gu winning at the 2022 winter olympics in the same month. pretty much all of my friends on social media only cared about Eileen and averted their attention from the very real threat of trafficking right next to them... i felt like an outcast for being so angry about what was happening. the whole thing was so disgusting and i was very affected. many other similar stories of potential kidnaps and enslaving surfaced around the same time and it was just... so, so vile. i hated this happened and is most likely still happening in my country. i hated the govn is doing jack shit about it, even worse, prolly being involved balls deep. i hated i was chinese. what a dark time.

That last story is so damn disturbing. I really hope both women mentioned are getting the care they deserve and that any other women in that situation are getting help. I can’t help but wonder, though; what happened to Dong’s children when he was arrested? We’re they given to another family in the village as a foster/adoption situation? Taken into custody? Hanging actually takes no physical strength. Not to take away from the woman, but anyone can grab on to something and hang, the average hang time for adults is 10 minutes. If you have decent shoulders you can hang for about 30 minutes to an hour.

@@Unchainedful you're wrong, hanging to something doens't require only shoulders, it requires a lot of other muscles which 95% of the times are untrained. Unless you train hanging to something everyday for long periods of time, you wont last a minute in a situtation like this.

All of these stories are heartbreaking but the last one is horrible it just proves that people can create an innocent persona online but be a horrible person in actual fact something that makes it just that much disturbing is the fact the children were so desensitised to it and the way authorities tried to cover it up.

I cannot express how bad I feel about the last story. That woman being unable to walk to her bed and being constantly beated makes me want to commit murder against their "husbands". I've always felt bad for invalid persons, whether physically or mentally. They're so left apart and ignored by the world. It's so unfair for them, they couldn't choose the way they were born.

The last stories are absolutely heart breaking. The fact that these things go on in 2022 is beyond imaginable to me. I hope everyone who is suffering a fate like that gets helped. Thank you for reporting on these things.

Clearing things up about story 2. She was not charged with attempted murder due to a lack of evidence. She was only charged with failing to assist Adesech and filming her without her consent. Her defence was that she didn't aid Adesech because she was worried about being dragged down and the video was recorded as proof she didn't push her out the window but the judge found her guilty anyways based on her callous attitude during the recording. Her sentence was not just "a few months" it was almost 2 years. Lastly Adesech returned to Ethiopia almost as soon as the hospital discharged her

The first story hit me very hard. I had a buddy who was the cops in the story. Drunk driver struck him from behind as he was helping another crashed vehicle. He had just become a cop and that's all he talked about while on our deployment overseas together. RIP I miss you man

I got pulled over one time, trying to get to an area quick for Uber. There's a state law where you have to give a cop on the shoulder a full lane. Someone did not do this while I was talking to him, and was dangerously close to striking him. I guess a likely DUI>speeding ticket, so he let me go

My grandfather was killed by a drunk driver when my dad was a kid. This was in the time where women didn't really work too, it effected the family bad. Left my grandmother with no money and four kids. Also got conned out of the family business, because she just didn't know anything about that world. I'm so sorry. My dad was a Detroit cop for 30 years and had his leg nearly torn off getting hit (he was an accident cop most of the time he was on the force). Him getting hit, stabbed, and shot at gave me ptsd (among other things like our house getting shot up, car catching fire with me inside, so on), fearing he wouldn't make it home. He survived the job, but not without mental and physical scars. Covid took him in March 2020. Again, I'm so sorry you lost your friend, especially that way.

If your partner happens to die between your engagement and wedding, if the family of the deceased agrees, the wedding can still be allowed to take place. Because it is a quite common in certain countries, I believe it is called the Kafala system. A form of indentured servitude for immigrants where they make you sign a document and pretty much have you work for horrible wages and conditions and can threaten deportation or worse if you refuse.

i was so glad to hear the woman who jumped survived. so many murderers think they'll get away by killing, sometimes it's nice to see some do not.

The last story was just as heartbreaking as the others. I can't understand why people would subject their partners to such harsh conditions and hurt them without remorse. Zhong was kept there for 20 years and not once committed su*cide. Maybe she was unable to think for herself after so long of being imprisoned. I hope people who harm others like this are punished severely.

Its simple. The woman wasn't this man's partner, she was his slave. It's not a question of "how could someone treat their loved one like this" it'd actually the reality slaves like this live in around the world.

Oh my gosh - Officer Mack was from my town, he was a real stand up guy. I watched his entire funeral, and I cannot tell you how heartbreaking it was to watch his wife walk behind his casket holding her two small children's hands. Seeing the support from our little community, and from all the other state trooper barracks across the country was really heartwarming. It won't bring him or Officer Sisca back, but I sincerely hope that garbage bag of a woman rots in prison.

Yeah I’d imagine the level of trauma inflicted by that situation would have major complications moving forward.

There's something particularly evil in bullying someone into despair and suicide. I hope karma came for these horrible people.

I feel so bad for all of the innocent people who suffered, whether it be mentally or physically, and had their suffering documented. It's awful and nobody deserves any of that. Edit: as someone with epilepsy, if I was punished for every time I had a seizure I would go berserk, I feel so bad for the lady who was held captive

Rhythm Zero? Marina Abramović isn’t a very trust worthy person, and the ‘exhibit’ expriment has been largely discredited. Even though the things that happened in that experiment can be related to real life and common human behavior, it’s also highly suspected to be staged and many sources can confirm that. (Although sources seem to be as trustworthy as the performance artist herself.)

I’ve seen a few of your videos as of today and only am two thirds tru this one but already this is by far the darkest i saw.. some of these cases are really shocking and heartbreaking. You do a great job narrating these cases! Keep it up!

You should mention one of the more sickening aspects of the first story: the fact that at least one person was wearing a “free Jayana” shirt. The entitlement and sociopathy one has to be consumed by to print a shirt like that and wear it in public when she just murdered 3 people absolutely gross.

The first story really strucked with me as that is actually my friend's uncle who was hit by the drunk girl, the guy who was walking along the road, didn't think the story would be told by such a popular channel, from what i heard her uncle had every bone broken, they almost didnt do an open casket because of how damaged his body was, and that the mother of the uncle (which would be her grandmother) fainted during the funeral... really tragic.

Not sure if you gonna read this, but I just want to thank you for mentioning the XuZhou chained woman incident. I’ve been following this incident on Chinese social media since it first caused the interest of the public. What shocked the people at first was not only the inhuman treatment this woman has suffered from, but also how the “influencers” on Kuai Shou (quite similar to Tik Tok) has been treating this whole incident. Many of them have been filming this family for quite long time, they also have donated clothes to them. However, even they’ve seen the father (Dong) rather throw and pile the clothes on the ground than give that to the woman, they chose to do nothing. Because they were donating the clothes just for good reputation which can help them to attract more followers, the suffering this woman has been through was actually nothing to them. People were shock by the indifference and ignorance. Especially for young women in China, seeing Chinese authorities using Eileen Gu as propaganda image for “Chinese woman” and knowing the horrible case in XuZhou at the same time. There’s a young female journalist who’s called “WuYi”, which is not her real name. She went to XuZhou since she didn’t trust the statement from the local government there, but no one has heard from her for a few months. I’ve been helping spreading the info about finding her and all my three social media accounts has been suspended for ten years. Now only few people are still following this case in China due to what it gonna cost. Besides, there’ve been worse incidents constantly happening inside this country. As someone who was born in China, I always have a heavy sense of powerlessness. But it made me feel a bit of relief for realising there’re people from the outside world noticing these things and raising other’s awareness. Thank you❤

As soon as I heard the Arabic, I knew that the hanging woman was a maid being tortured. I grew up hearing about how badly they were treated in certain households, with their documents taken away, and little to no freedom of life. The early oughts were seriously bad for them. Again, not tarring the entire GCC with the same brush, but it was heard of frequently. I guess certain people still think getting a maid meant owning a whole life.

Im glad youve been able to get sober, im a former xanax addict myself and withdrawl is one of the most grueling experiences in my opinion. Not only the physical symptoms, but the feeling of hopelessness and that youll never be able to acheive the level of happiness you felt while high. I had to get sober on my own because there are no good rehab centers near me, muchless ones that i could afford and the stigma around addicts preventing me from talking to someone else about it. Sobriety is a lifelong journey and should be treated as such, even after withdrawl completely dissipates. Hope life treats you well man

We don't hear about it often, but it isn't just Kuwait and countries with systems like that. It's very sad that these workers have no way to ask for help and are stuck under these horrible people. I was a pipefitter for years. The scariest parts of that job was climbing ladders and working in Fresh air only areas. Most refineries have barrels around fixed ladders, which is awesome for taller people, when you get tierd , need to adjust tools etc, you are supposed to put back firmly against barrel , extend legs to rungs , but dont lock knees, and do ya thing....my legs were not long enough! I basically had to non stop climb 24 ft than rest on the landing. (OSHA states that ladders can only be 24 ft than they have to have a landing) I sincerely hope that young lady passed out before she hit the ground.

Unfortunately, she was still somewhat conscious by the time she reach the bottom. At least from what I remember, you can hear her scream during the fall and faint moan near the end. I could be misremembering thing though, it been awhile since a saw the video.

The story of that young girl was heartbreaking. Truly, livestreaming can be a terrifying thing. At a very young age a buddy of mine witnessed a suicide through livestream and it messed him up. It’s scary to think we can document our own deaths live and the impact that it will have on the viewers.

God this is a fucked up world. These videos depress me but I keep watching. It makes me appreciate how much worse my life could be. I was thinking the same thing at the end when Nick says those trafficked women are not the only two. There's some bad people out there, and others who never stand a chance.

The story with the Ethiopian maid is awful and reminded me of my upbringing in the UAE. Housemaids are common there, everyone had one (Arab families, American, British… everyone…). People take advantage of them because the labour is SO cheap. Some have their passports withheld by their bosses and are physically/emotionally/verbally abused. Even the ones who aren’t abused have to work long hours for little pay, live away from their families in tiny rooms conjoined to the house of their boss. They’re often treated like dirt as if they are not people. Their boss determines when they go on holiday and they can literally be prevented from seeing their families. My family’s housemaid (we treated very well) had a newborn baby back in the Philippines but she had to work in the UAE to send money back 😔 We gave her paid time off but that is RARE. There’s many stories of abused housemaids that were ignored by the government because in countries like the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi etc they are seen as third class citizens and lesser than other people. The racism is ABHORRENT. Stuff like the abuse of the Ethiopian lady in the video happens *all the time* and they have nowhere to go for help.

The employer in this video would most likely have been a Kuwaiti local and therefore they are protected by the government so get less jail time. If the same crime was committed by a European, for example, the sentence would be more extreme. And if it was committed by what these countries see as third class Asian populations (Indian, Filipino, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Ethiopian….) the sentence would be EVEN worse. I wish this wasn’t the way. I wrote all this for anyone interested-and it’s stuff you never really hear about unless you live there.

Glad that you cover the XuZhou chained woman incident. Cuz the issue around buying woman to be “the wife/mother” was a serious issues. My country (Viet Nam) also has a lot of chained human trafficking were most of woman in lower educated town was tricked/got kidnapped and got sold (which is mostly sold to Chinese person to be their “wife”). And a lot of documents about the life during the time the woman held captive and the life after they managed to escape. Which even when they came back, they still got back flash from other people in that areas cuz she is now “not sacred”. It’s a sad thing that happened for a long time for woman (and even children) from smaller countries that near the border. Despite many efforts, as long there are greedy people (both in China and Viet Nam) and people that want to buy human, and the Chinese goverment hidding it, this issue will still occured.

the end of days thread on reddit was the most depressing thing i have come across yet… maybe bc when i was nine and my dad was 28 he died of lung cancer… so it made me wonder what he went through mentally knowing he was leaving behind his wife and 2 sons (9&4) also the wtc thread….. everything surrounding that day is crushing to me even to this day.

Being Chinese myself, I feel saddened with Lou, we East Asian usually to this day still keep silent or see it as a taboo about mental and depression to ourselves as Asians in general don't take it serious and think it just "mumbo jumbo" or that people with depression or mental issues are seen as "Crazy", older generation (boomers) parents would just wave it away about their children having mental problem. I can't speak from a culturally Chinese or even East Asian perspective as I'm a westerner but it's fairly similar over here too. Such a shame. I'm currently seeking counseling for PTSD and MDD. People don't really take it seriously. Especially harmful is the lack of legitimacy that mental illnesses are regarded with as opposed to physical ailments because they're less outwardly visible and have a great deal of stigma surrounding them. Take one of the messages in the livestream chat for example; "prove that you really have depression in front of this many people." If people treated mental illness with the attention and urgency it demands, a lot more people might still be with us. Sympathy and understanding would help an already vulnerable population, yet sadly we often provide the exact opposite.

Sadly super common still in Asia, very old practice and was pretty much the norm pre-Revolution (listen to Fanshen audiobook here on youtube). Part of the dark underbelly of Chinese culture they don't want shared to the world, considering lots of Chinese are still backwards, village people who still engage in this sort of slave driving/debt slavery/trafficking behaviour.

There were a TON of important details left out of the third story. The actual context behind the harassment she suffered and why she ended up taking her life like that makes it even more heartbreaking.

Luo's story made me sad, she seemed gentle, harmless and vulnerable and people wanted to see her die for what? :/

gotta say, the way you tell these stories is great, best ive seen on youtube, others give up the story right away so theres no surprise, but, for example: the one story you told where the 2 guys got released from prison, went into a cabin to kill a family and they recorded themselves opening the victims presents, but u didnt let us know that right away so we thought the footage was the real family opening presents, its the shit like that, i loove it

But you could see the changes he went from making these and adding himself in them making comments and just being him to the format he now makes them being more Professional and serious. It’s not as common but yeah there’s times people have survived some unbelievable falls.

The last one is common in rural China some areas are completely lawless and unattended as if they don’t exist

The second story was very well told! The fact she survived was a nice twist. I totally assumed she perished from the fall.

That last story took a wild turn I didn’t see coming. I wonder how all of the kids are doing after their dad got caught. The other cases were also heartbreaking. At least that one lady survived and brought her nasty boss to justice.

But not as disturbing as the fact that one can become like this just because of the abuse that some monster made her go through. @@udontevenwannaknowbruv yea, and the fact that someone been in fours on a dirty floor covered with a blanket for 20 years, is terrifying, imagine the insanity that that person been, and you can see it how they act, looks like an animal.

I remember the woman who fell from that window, and all the sharing of it. I was so so glad she survived and got (a very small amount of) justice.
