The fact this case was swept under the "bullying" umbrella is appalling. Growing up I always thought she flashed one of her friends or some guy from school, nobody ever talked about how she was stalked, harassed, and brutally blackmailed by pedophiles to the point of moving multiple times. It's a very misunderstood case and I'm glad to know the real story. I hope her soul is resting now and that those who did this will burn.

Same here. Really reminded me about that era of the internet and the response most people had to cyber bullying in general. When I first heard about Amanda she was brushed under the bullying umbrella and every adult, and even fellow kids were talking About how it was partially (or all) her fault for "messing" on the internet. There were videos of people parodying her flashcards video on KZread. Tosh.0 even went in on it. And that was just the general air towards kids who committed suicide. Even the news as they reported seriously there was a feeling by the reporter that they didn't really think it was serious or they were looking down on the kid. I thought Amanda's case was just bullying, but it was so disgusting and devastating and it got buried and minimized by so many people that it's not common knowledge what really happened, and it should be.

I found an page where this sick person was talking about it and saying horrible things about amanda. but they and the other members of the page concluded the picture isnt amanda. And another article I found from CBC news says "Thiessen ( the police sergeant at the time) said that another rumour suggested autopsy photos had been leaked - a false story that caused Todd's family extreme stress. No autopsy was performed on the 15-year-old.

So a group of sadistic pedophiles would prey and manipulate young to very young girls into performing sexual acts only then to torment them, and blackmail them to do whatever they want? But in the event they committed suicide they would toss them away like garbage and move onto the next victim? Truly sickening. I honestly wish these pieces of shit would be charged with murder if the victim took their own life.

You are unlikely to face legal repercussions especially if you are being blackmailed (in the USA). I promise you it is embarrassing in the moment, but it's so much better to have support (personal and legal) behind you than trying to face this alone. And in 5 or 6 years it's likely nobody will remember it, especially not in a way that puts you in a negative light. Not your close friends or family, or anyone else. ☘️ Notice how the Daily Capper puts one last show on after the girls death?? And also notice how they, all of the sudden, have empathy for the girl by calling her death a tragedy?? They weren't calling the stalking, blackmail, and victimizing girls tragic until a death occurred. They were exalting the abuse. They wanted to quickly point the finger when things got serious and police were involved.

Something I cannot forget is the hatred Amanda got after her death. I became very interested in her case as a child back then and it was so scary seeing how the internet treated her after her death. There were videos (and one in particular I remember, of this woman who drank water from bleach as a way of mocking Amanda’s death) saying Amanda’s death didn’t deserve attention and that she “got what was coming”. As a child myself back then I never understood why so many of these ADULTS hated this child who was exploited and had her life ruined. Also, I recall her family had a huge stalker that created a blog basically saying Amanda was a full blown cam girl and her mother was a psychopath. That blog became pretty big iirc, I cannot remember what the guys name was.

They live lives of constant self-loathing and crushing misery and they blame everyone but themselves, and instead of dealing with it in a healthy way they choose to go out of their way to be as disgusting and horrible as they think they can get away with, usually consisting of making other people's lives ten times as constantly miserable to fill the void in the empty place where their souls should be. They usually try to think of the most vulnerable people they can ruin and go after them relentlessly, usually women and children, most often both, then they act cocky about it to make themselves feel like they're "Cool" for distributing an underaged girl's photos to the entire internet and harassing her to the point of killing herself so they can feel even more like they're super cool and evil and have the power to manipulate others. It's dangerously pathetic in every sense of the word, and this all probably applies to people like racists, queerphobes, serial killers who kill and then act like smarmy bastards, people like that. It's sickeningly pathetic and people like this deserve to be put in the electric chair so they can't hurt and traumatize anyone else so that THEY will grow up to resent the world for their emptiness and turn to a life of causing pain and suffering as well.

I remember looking up Amanda Todd late one night in the past to revisit her story when I found the horrific original video focusing on Amanda posted by The Daily Capper. I couldn’t decipher exactly what it was, but I knew for a fact that this was something dark and twisted and horrible. To this day, that video feels haunted. Viewing the original news clip from Distraction News gives a feeling of safety, but the Daily Capper seems like something from the Dark Web. It seems like that original video was never deleted, and it’s still up. It should NEVER have existed in the first place, but the fact that it’s still up 10-11 years later is unbelieveable. It doesn’t even have a content warning. Viewing it makes me feel sick to my stomach- that video was the precursor to someone’s horrific death and personal heartbreak. I pray that Amanda’s beautiful soul has found peace. Thank you for covering this.

Its also about having frank discussions about the reality of social media and the way people can prey off of unsuspecting kids. If I were a pedo, I bet you i could find a dozen underage girls tonight on any of the major hookup/dating apps. All romantic apps should require verified ID. That way, nobody stealths, does any bug chasing, or rapes anyone and gets away with it. Anonymous should be for internet browsing and comment sections only, not for intimate personal connections. If you're going to be a slut, everyone should be able to know. You're still free to be one, but we should all have the right to know in case we want to hook up with or date you (not you personally lol).

Frankly, given how many kids are still prayed on, I would be okay if lawmakers put an age limit on when one can use the internet unsupervised. I had a scare with my cousin who is only 11. As the family tech person, I was helping her with an iPad issue and caught her on Roblox with her age set to 18. She was trying to get content that her friends were playing (usually horror games) but that could have opened so many dangerous doors that she had no idea about. I had to sit her down and explain how dangerous that could have gone if she met the wrong person online. The internet is just too unpredictable for kids and it worries me a lot.
