The great thing about Gav is that I think he still has more to give. He is probably getting to thr age where massive improvements are going to be difficult. But I think he has the capabilty to make a WSM final this year.

I met you Gavin in Myrtle Beach last summer. You took a photo with me and were friendly and gracious. You're one of the few strongmen who doesn't lie about his height. You're a LEGIT 6'6" man barefoot and don't claim to be 6'8" like Brian Shaw or Tom Stoltman, both of whom are your height barefoot. You're a stand up guy Gavin. Hoping to meet you again in Myrtle Beach in 3 months!

Brian, Eddie, Thor, etc lie about their height but does Tom really? I don't watch much of his stuff but videos I saw he never really talked about his height. I know he was listed at 6'10 in some competitions, 6'8 in others but that could just be organizations trying to make contests more impressive?

I'm glad Wales is getting a proper lookin on the world stage at the moment. I don't think we've really had a star since Gary Taylor. It'd be a hell of a thing to see our first WSM win for a fellow countryman since 93. I'm not saying Gav's a shoe-in for this year or anything, but I was too young to have seen it 31yrs ago, so I'm crossing my fingers and toes I'll get to before long.

There have always been big expectations with Gav because...just look at him. Two silvers at BSM in a row confirm he has the steak to accompany the sizzle. He has many good years of prime ahead of him, and he is getting better. If he makes the podium at WSM this year, he ascends another level in his career. He has all the pieces of the puzzle to do that...simply has to assemble them on the day...

In 2010, I was training at Rob Framptons gym. Size and becoming heavy was the goal. Getting the bodyweight up, with the intention of refining later. Get fat, Get strong, then get fit. This wasn't Rob's advice, it was just the culture. I hit 130kg at 5'11 and felt I needed to cut. Strong but unhealthy. Did not go down well with gym members. I took alot of shit.....I made the right choice.

I'm glad you guys touched on how different it is in competition vs your own gym etc... I had a discussion on Mitch Hoopers video he did on Tom Haveland as they were saying TH could challenge MH in WSM and lifting at home vs competition isn't so different etc... I was trying to say these things that you mention about traveling, diet change, sleep change, timings in the lifting and 4 or 5 events in one day! It's ok to do one thing in your own gym and say I lifted 200kg but that's on your best day! Try doing that under competition conditions and it's event 5 out of 5 and trust me, it ain't happening! It's also why I think lifts done under competition conditions and in your own home gym should be separate world records because they simply are not the same. always liked Gav, seems such a nice down to earth and humble guy, hope he does really well! 👍👍
