can't fall off if you just don't upload good video though, it's evident that basing your channel on trends will not sustain long-term growth or an actual legit audience for obvious reasons. all of the meme channels i can think of that actually have a somewhat loyal fanbase are ones that moved over to unique content that isn't strictly memes; justmehabibi, yikes, kaka v420 to name a few. i was trying to do the same myself but my drive to make stuff has been abysmal for the better part of the last 2 years so my channel probably won't see the views it used to ever again lmao. there's still hope for you though mr thotti, you must rise above the brainrot

THANK YOU for making this video. as a former meme channel myself, im happy i switched content styles in mid 2022. from 2021-2022, i dedicated myself to making memes every 1-2 days, and that experience really made me see the true value of being a meme channel online. it's tasteless, boring, and ingenuine to try and be 'hip' and 'up to date' with internet jokes that people will only care about for a week or 2. in real life, who cares about these memes for a majority of people above middle school? even if i had ~60k subscribers in 2022, not a single person cares about me as a person, but me as a content factory. not to mention how sad it is to make these memes so consistently. i wake up, go to school, and immediately find a meme to make and upload. no time for real life, no time for friends, no time for anything. i spend hours just searching for the "funniest" videos to make, and they can either get 20k or 200k views. the views on a meme channel are so inconsistent since you're basically praying that a meme hits it big so you can cash in for the next week. after that, it's just finding the next best thing. there's no trying to make yourself funny; you're just trying to please the middle schoolers who watch this shit. and for what? subscribers? views? MONEY? the money only comes in if your video is above 30 seconds, so you better yap and add filler to the meme if it's too short, sacrificing humor for that dough. of course, unless you sacrifice your dignity to the youtube shorts gods, like benbros. who cares about the numbers if you're just a sad slop in real life. no one knows you and no one cares about you if you don't give time to yourself too, which meme channels often dont have. this is why i hid my yt channel from others 2 years ago; i was ashamed of saying that THAT was my source of passive income. you should've also delved deeper on how easy it is for memes to be stolen and reuploaded. meme channels spend effort making these videos consistently, and for someone to steal it and gain from it is a big demotivator. sure, you can add a watermark, but the thief can just remove it, especially with AI tools nowadays. look at squewe; he just posts meme compilations under a 'top 5' suit and he got a million subscribers. where is the love? it's just stolen videos for a living. i find making memes to be fun when you're not trying to make a profit from it. ive wanted to make a video on this topic for a while, but id rather just leave the 2021-2022 era in the past. i dont regret making those memes, since it really taught me how unfun it is to make such videos. im just happy that i've since then changed to make my own humor in videos, rather than milking others' week-long humor. im happy that i can get consistent views by just making videos on what i find funny. i just hope other meme channels like kracc bacc (my goat), peternity, arcade assassin and others can find another type of content that works well with them. leave the memes to be enjoyed by the people; dont try and turn humor into a dignity-killing factory. please enjoy life outside of doomscrolling skibidi toilet ohio gyatt tiktoks.

Title unfunny. Alright, let’s dive into a creative exploration of humor and its subjective nature. Here’s a light-hearted take on the concept of “unfunny”: Humor is a fascinating aspect of human interaction, a sparkling thread woven into the fabric of society. It’s the invisible glue that bonds people together, the sudden burst of laughter in a silent room, the shared chuckle over a cup of coffee. Yet, what tickles the funny bone of one may not even elicit a smirk from another. The realm of humor is as vast and varied as the stars in the night sky, each joke a unique constellation waiting to be discovered. Consider the classic slapstick, a pie to the face, or the exaggerated stumble of a clown. These gags have echoed through the halls of comedy for ages, yet some might say, “That’s so unfunny.” But why? Is it the predictability, the lack of sophistication, or simply a mismatch of comedic tastes? The truth is, humor is a personal journey, a treasure hunt where X marks the spot of our own unique sense of mirth. In the digital age, memes have become the hieroglyphs of humor, a pictorial language that conveys jokes at the speed of light. A cat playing a keyboard, a celebrity’s awkward moment, or a witty play on words can become the anthem of amusement for millions. Yet, amidst this viral vortex of laughter, there are those who stand unamused, arms crossed, thinking, “This is the epitome of unfunny.” So, what is ‘unfunny’? It’s the other side of the comedy coin, the shadow to humor’s light. It’s the punchline that falls flat, the joke that sails over heads, the sitcom that plays to a silent room. But even in the unfunny, there’s a lesson to be learned, a reflection of our own complex palette of preferences. It’s a reminder that comedy is not a one-size-fits-all, but a bespoke suit tailored to each individual. In the end, whether we’re rolling on the floor laughing or sitting stone-faced, humor is a gift. It’s a whisper of our humanity, a testament to our ability to find joy in the mundane, to laugh in the face of adversity, and to connect with one another on a level that transcends words. So, here’s to the ‘unfunny’-may it serve as the foil that makes the funny that much sweeter. And there you have it, a playful exploration of humor’s subjective nature. Remember, what’s unfunny to one may be hilarious to another, and that’s the beauty of comedy-it’s as diverse as we are.

kracc bacc has taken a break/left youtube for 4 months ago as stated in his community tab
I’ve been making memes on KZread since the end of 2016, and a lot of what you’ve said in this video is very accurate to my own experiences as well. Riding the trends, hoping that the next video you upload will get picked up by the algorithm, etc. And then, I would add, when there’s no suitable, popular meme out, literally not being able to upload. Also, the shift in the lifespan and type of memes toward vertical short-oriented stuff has really reduced the prevalence of memes that regular, horizontal, 30-second+ videos can actually be made on, further decreasing the viability of the classic style of KZread meme videos. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve really slowed down in the amount I post; I haven’t uploaded a regular horizontal video in almost two months now. There are just no more suitable memes to make 30-second, horizontal videos on while still keeping the standard of effort/quality I’d like to maintain on my channel. It seems like most new memes are geared towards shorts now, as shown by the popularity of shorts from channels like Meme Zee, Arcade Assassin, Gelnox, etc. The types of videos I’ve actually found the most success with (fulfillment-wise + monetarily) are longer, YTP-style movie edits incorporating memes (my “but it’s awkward” videos), so I might try to lean more into those, as it’s becoming increasingly clear that the viability of the good ol’ regular types of KZread memes is just not really there anymore, whether you feel that’s ultimately a good thing or a bad thing.

@artistrankings6794 Late to the party but I feel like Among Us memes are virtually dead now, it has been so for like a year (I personally haven’t seen many memes). As for Mr. Incredible, that was actually interesting because that is one of the few memes from the 2020s that actually feels like a 2000s/2010s meme, even if it did end up oversaturated and milked to death and beyond. (At least we got some funny shit like “your super gaming house” because of it).
On this topic, I feel like around 2019-2021 was a turning point for memes where they started to become a lot more nonsensical and incomprehensible in comparison to older memes, which at least had some kind of joke instead of a bunch of random sound effects and low quality images. Around this time, these new memes also felt more like people just trying to make money than actually trying to make funny stuff for people to laugh at. Some of the memes could still be funny, but the new style a lot of memes adopted just got old fast in my opinion. From the looks of it, this will get even worse than the rise of gen alpha and we could be entering a new and even worse era for memes. This kind of stuff makes me so grateful for people who still make stuff like YTPs and other content similar to 2010s memes, but sadly because of the algorithm, they can be hard to find, even by searching.

Meme channels need to remind themselves that overconfidence is a slow, and insidious killer.
KZread shorts in general has done so much bad to youtube. People lazily screen recording and reposting others shorts or tik toks. Creators starting to make less actual videos and focus more on shorts And the worse part is that when you search something at least on mobile most of the time it automatically pops up only shorts first and you have to change the filter which will still sgow a bunch of shorts just with some videos too.
Memes in the 2020s are either based on the past or satirizing something current.

It's Benbros lore, those other channels just copied it for some reason. Benbros fell way off, I miss the doge, amogus, dancing cockroach memes.

great, even more decaying content creators doing "lore" to keep their audience interested
Instagram has a massive chain of meme accounts just like KZread, some of them are high quality, like repostrandy, but some are fairly low quality and have some interesting backgrounds. That could be a video worth thinking about

This is actually really indepth and true in so many ways. Im starting out as a content creator with voice acting and soon some other things and have seen this first hand. I personally despise having to stoop so low as to making short for content on shorts and following trends desperately, but it feels like our society has come to that point.
Thotti I know you have fallen hard. But this type of content is actually really enjoyable and you could probably make a comeback. Just please dont start milking random ass memes 🙏
PLEASE make more video essays like this. I genuinely enjoyed the editing style and it somewhat reminds of T3rr0r.

I feel like burnout plays a large role in this. You get tired of chasing trends, and when you make something you actually feel like making, it gets no views and you get discouraged

That's exactly what I did when I started making YTPs, and I'm not afraid to admit that honestly
The darkest dungeon transitions made me smile. I was literally the Patrick Bateman with headphones meme when u blasted the hamlet track.
This video somewhat relates on why I stopped making meme content
I believe a large reason why a meme lasts only a week maybe a month if lucky is because KZreadrs like lessons in meme culture and TikTok expose them to a large audience and it gets mad annoying when you log into KZread or any other platform and see the same exact meme a million times and yea I know this is a 2016 take and people will probably say "who cares about normies” but I honestly I don’t care if the word is considered cringe nowadays or if it’s gatekeepy I believe the less people are in on a joke the more likely it is to last imo
Thanks for actually being honest about the entire meme channels saga, I've been seeing your posts on youtube some time with some funny stuff you were posting on community posts and I've decided to check later seeing this and I couldn't agree more.
Great video dude, I have lost a lot of motivation with the decline of memes

Meme channels first died in 2020 due to among us and then had a little revival with MIBU but then surged so down that you can’t even say that they died again.
I used to wish I could make those dope memes like kracc bacc, Peternity, etc., but now I realise that it's hard to catch up with the currently ever-changing meme ecosystem as well as the current trends in general, and it's more advisable to try to be original, creative and engaging, etc.

You did it before me. Therefore, we shall become enemies.
We're in the transition between eras of memes; 2019 all over again.
I’ve felt ostracized lately because I never really was the biggest fan of these types of memes, not even in an ironic sense, while a lot of people I’m friends with ate this shit up. I was worried that I was being pretentious or just “didn’t get it” so I never really said anything about it. Seeing my feelings get validated by a channel surrounded by similar content is really freeing. (also the DD quotes between sections was a great touch haha)
the darkest dungeon narrator quotes were the best part of the video. the analisis was pretty cool too
8:42 bro where do you find these memes from 😭
He chose some really fitting Ancestor quotes
youtube algorithm isn't that difficult, it's meant to follow what the audience is clicking on, watching all the way thru, and what gets them to watch MORE videos. the simple answer for if something does/doesn't work on youtube, it's the audience. whirow's comment summed it up perfectly, people come to youtube to watch long videos with *people* in it. relying off of a trend can work for a lil bit, but you need to figure out ways to connect those trends back to you, your channel, and your other videos.
I watched Kracc Bacc everyday when I was like 13-14, thought his shit was the funniest most underrated stuff ever, but after a while, I inevitably grow up and began to skew less and less from the channel, I still in fact laugh a few times at the few remaining Amogus memes from the year of our lord 2024, but, yeah, sometimes I look back at my favorite videos from it and think to myself just how much a retarded person I was
The whole "doesn't make sense thing" dude, you think that MLG or among us made sense for older people? I think i'm about your age, you saying that new humour doesn't make sense and therefore is sort of bad as i heard older people say about ours, makes me realize we're gonna be sent to a retirement home pretty soon
8:32 Sad, he didn't deserve all that defamation
Really liked the video! It talks about something that few people have considered talking about And I can kind of relate as an owner of a very smol channel that was based around memes
i love this video but i love the darkest dungeon sounds and music used in it even more
This video was like SunnyV2, Internet Anarchist, penguinz0, Turkey Tom, Moon and Man Carrying Thing This video was awesome, inspiring, funny, interesting, life-changing, heartwarming, cool, great, hilarious, insightful and relevant #Memes #memes

Back in the day I made the og crème de la meme Facebook page. I made all kinds of OC memes and such until one day when I woke up and it all was gone and the page was Zucced. I think all meme creators hit a wall eventually. Good vid
Its also that the youtube algorithm was bugged back then. Because the videos were so short and the viewer retention was so high it just kept promoting them forever

I think the genuine problem is irony and satire being misunderstood by younger generations as unironic, and then these younger generations only generating more things to be ironic and satirical about thus repeating the cycle
The problem with selling slop is that it requiring no effort means there are so many people ready to replace you if you fall behind.

While this comment is true, it doesn't really work because there are at least 5000 other types of spammed YT comments that get popular because there's a mass overload of unfunny children on the internet, y'know the kind that are fans of indie animation and spent time in middle school drawing random crap while failing every class. And also, I haven't seen those comments on this channel at all

fav meme channel is kalo, i have a hunch he uses memes posted within his discord, and doesn't watermark everything while tryna promote his own art and beatsaber content
This is why I switched from posting shitpost statuses to full on KZread Poops, honestly. I prefer making longer form edits that can have their own set of jokes that aren't reliant on current trends, instead my actual interests, and appeal to those who want meme-like videos without it being dated in a week. It's a lot harder to come up with comedy that way, as well as just make the videos in general, but it's not like making those memes were that hard to begin with at all outside of just the timeframe. That's what I recommend for channels like these who still want to make comedic, absurdist KZread videos. It's a different method, but it appeals to even more people for a much longer time. Just try to not get frustrated like I do when people pretend that YTP is dead.
The brainrot edits are actually good tho
Come on don't group Paternity with the rest of these meme channels 😢😔😔✊✊

You're not going to read this but man this channel in your prime was amazing, the batman videos were simply genius, deffo one of the best memes of the year 2022 that was personally the best year of my life, and unironically you and other meme channels were one the reason it was so great, it was really the prime of memes in my opinion, it's kinda sad how memes fell off, this new generation is cooked.... But thanks for doing your incredible content 👍

Meme Asylum and The Meme Doser are still posting comedy gold tho
Some meme channels know that their content is saturated, Squewe has said in a interview of Sournale’s video that he didn’t expect his videos to be popular at all and he doesn’t plan on keep making them, Kracc bacc left KZread 4 months ago because he had poor mental health as stated in his community which to be fair is good for him, kracc bacc’s 2020-2022 content was good but overtime the content has gotten more stale overtime due to 2023-2024 memes being wildly different to what we have now (like compare social credit memes to skibidi toilet).
