if you're saying that a 5 is the best looking guy in a friend group, you don't know math, 5 should be 1 out of 2 on a proper distribution, and facial looks are normally distributed

That's assuming 10s exist. Since they don't and 9s are rarer than a standard bell curve will suggest, the curve skews a bit to left. In this case, a 5 is above average

@@nanayawagyen-kokuro5069 I mean we can define like the most attractive guy ever to be like a 9.999999999999 or whatever and the math basically is the same, there is some evidence that a 6 is actually average, due to makeup, styling, and etc., there actually is a large number of people who look above average slightly, none of this changes that there exist no friend groups on average where a guy rated at average is the best looking, on average, everyone looks AVERAGE, who would have thought, he needs to clarify numbers, average looking is best looking in about 2, maybe 3 if you add in some other minor adjustments, but this still leads to the math being that 7's are about best looking in 6-8(1 std top ~15%), and people with faces like Ryan Gosling are actually about as common as 1 in 6-10, maybe 20, not incredibly rare, but definitely not the average, and definitely not as common as 1 in 2-3, which he is implying by saying Ryan Gosling is average, the extremely rare male models are never going to be in that one club or dating app you're in or on, they are never going to be competition, it serves no purpose to include them, realistically your competition is the top 2-20% and that's it, that's what the scale should measure to be useful in dating, of course this could just be a marketing ploy to convince people who think if Ryan Gosling is average I need to step up my game and buy his courses or whatever, no dude, you're just a 5 and he's like a 7-8, as common sense would tell you

@@nanayawagyen-kokuro5069 you know it's interesting, if 9's are rarer than a standard normal distribution, it implies that the distribution has changed past a certain point and is mixed, like the IQ distribution, which changes from normal to power law after about 137, we see this commonly in many complex systems and it implies that past this point, the system is not really predictable, people with IQs over 137 tend to all be smart, but in different extreme components of IQ rather than all the smart in the same ways, I would speculate that it means after a 9 rating, it's more about individual tastes rather than facial structure, as everyone beyond that point looks good, they just have different unique features, this kind of means that looks in general, can really only be maxed out to be the most attractive person in 50 to 200 or so, which means even if a male model walks into your club, if you have another person at near 9, they are both going to have about the same success, they will just attract different people depending on taste rather than looks, also for women this means that there are more highly attractive women than rich guys or guys with rare skills or talents

@empemitheos His scale does include the very high percentiles of attractiveness, and that's why Ryan is giving a 5. However, here a 5 doesn't mean median or mean as he described 5 as above average. If the majority of people are between a 3 and 6(per his scale), those between 3-5 will be a lot more in number than 6s. This will mean the average friend group will have an attractiveness rating less than 5. Hence, "5s are seen as the attractive one in the friend group."

@@nanayawagyen-kokuro5069 that's a meaningless scale, scale implies some type of regular interval measurement, if I have a ruler, I need it to read each centimeter the same as every other centimeter, there's a reason why we use a standard normal distribution to describe various things because the rating and scales of it make sense, if this guy's scale was used for IQ, everyone would be rated as retarded and that is pretty clearly not true and not useful when placing people in proper schooling and etc., saying someone with a 120 IQ on that scale system would be average is not true, he states Steve Carrell is a 4.5 and a normal looking guy, both those statements are contradictory, if you have a scale where the average is 4.5-5.5, the only distribution where an average means something is a normal distribution, in that scale a normal distribution would calculate that there should exist at least 15% or more 7's and above, which is exactly what we see in large machine learning databases of trained facial attractiveness, also Steve Carrel is likely a 6-7 in an actual real world scale, the super models he put in the end are such a tiny percentage of the distribution that it doesn't even really make mathematical or practical sense to talk about them in relation to the majority of people's dating experience, what he seems to be doing is creating some type of strange skewed distribution with most people at the lower ratings and a few at the higher ratings, but this doesn't match any known distribution such as a log normal because that would mean there is actually a large number of super attractive men too, basically none of this makes any mathematical sense what so ever

For the people who think this person’s harsh for putting Gosling at 5.5. Trust me. . . . There are people out there in these spaces who’ve rated him a lot lower.

Women have open type, which is different than what men have. Women will see a man sexually attractive because of his confidence, status and other women surrounding him. Looks are irrelevant. If she gonna see you with a buggati or with a hot gf she will rate your looks higher. Its a documented fact, they done many experiments. While for guys, we dont care about her personality, if she hot we smash, or at least we still find her sexually attractive. Her degree or money or sense of humour wont gonna make her more hot.

Solid math & logic bud - I've told people my face is a 'six ish' because my eye sockets are slightly different sizes but my jaw structure & mouth make them think I should be a seven. Face and body differ in most people. I would argue nobody can be over an 8 unless they are highly dimorphic for their sex. This is neither female nor male gaze but plays into it e.g. the sexually dimorphic feature of men is the shoulders, for women the hips to waist area. Some supermodels are called 9s by my fellow women but really they're just skinny to sell insecure women clothing. You cannot be over an 8 imho without strong dimorphism. For example, Kate Moss from the neck down versus Ava Gardner. No competition. Or Suki Waterhouse from the neck down versus Marilyn Monroe. No competition. Now men obsess over height but you can see in a man's shoulders, it's suggestive of his overall frame or skeleton including height. I don't know if there's a formal study of men's shoulders (although men with great cheekbone to jawline area tend to have great shoulders) but for birth risk reasons, women's hips are studied as PELVIMETRY and there are different types. This is why sub-8 women will hip flick or kick out to look curvier or cringe claim to be an hourglass figure, like a man trying to puff up his chest and make his shoulders look broader. Cope posing. Up to 8, the traits are shared between sexes, if you wanted to look into it. Most celebrities are 8s and below frankly. Then there's surgery.
