The importance of Leader Standard Work for more effective Operations Management

For a great free mini-course on Daily Management System: www.beltcourse.com/a/21476552...
It's essential for managers, especially in manufacturing organisations, to spend time on running the business (performance control) and improving the business (process and people improvement). In practice, many managers are sucked into the daily business unless they can block time in their calendar for coaching, process improvement, guiding root cause problem solving.
This is a big part of a leader's standard work - making sure that you're also covering all the bases when it comes to the responsibilities of the manager's role and optimally supporting your team.
Production tends to have a rhythm, not exactly the same in each factory, but the broads strokes are similar enough to discuss a couple of common tips and themes for organising a production manager's calendar. Tips that will allow you to plan enough time for those activities that drive performance in the longer run while not ignoring that all-important daily control.
To get more tips about getting the most out of the daily control, driving actions and tying in performance meetings with problem solving action, Belt Course has created a nice mini course about the Daily Management System. It will take you through designing a KPI tree, setting accountability and the right questions to drive performance focused actions. Check it out at Belt Course's site: www.beltcourse.com/a/21476552... This course is totally free, I will receive a small affiliate fee when you decide to continue to one of their paid courses or programs (which are also totally worth it, by the way).

Hey Tom, I've been watching your videos for about a year now. I work in the biopharmaceutical industry in fill/finish manufacturing (filling vials of medicine). I know you work in the food industry but.a lot of your content is transferrable (like you say, continuous improvement in the industrial setting). I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work and for publishing the highly specialized and valuable content for free, it is making a difference in my life and helping me perform better manufacturing investigations. You're doing a great thing helping a lot of people with your work, you might not realize the trickle effect of what you're doing but you're making a big difference.

Thanks for taking the time to let me know, that is very motivating and just super nice to read. I’m glad to see that your finding much value in my videos and wish you many more interesting learnings to come. There is indeed much CI knowledge that is readily transferable between industries. Most of my experience is in food, but I’ve also personally used it in steel, plaster, paper and print and know of many others who use the same tools across way more industries. Fill and finish for Pharma will be much the same, tool-wise, so yes, use my materials with confidence; and also, share your learnings with our community, because your learnings are valuable across many industries too 😃

This is such an awesome coincidence. I'm currently on my lunch break but 15 minutes ago, I just finished proposing a project to create standard work for our shop floor supervisors and working leads to our site's senior leadership team!

Hah, that is super cool indeed. I hope my video gives you some ideas or arguments to convince your colleagues - or just share the video with them to start off a good discussion on how you’re going to schedule the task blocks for your team 😎
