    Yes! I don’t see this talked about enough! Everyone thinks intimacy coordinators are there for just the star, but they’re there to protect the boundaries of the entire crew. Joslyn having her whiny girl boss moment about wanting to show her body off and not being allowed to isn’t the slay Sam thinks it is when the coordinator is there to make sure everyone is comfortable. What about the rest of the crew? What if they don’t want to see Jos’s nips? It’s a very shallow discussion that makes it all the more obvious Sam neither likes nor understands intimacy coordinators…which isn’t surprising.

It’s why they don’t let actors go off the cuff from what has already been rehearsed because the crew has to consent to the scenes being performed how they are.

The way it’s written, the way they hijacked the script and rewrote it with a conscious effort to step AWAY from a woman’s perspective, makes The Idol as blatant of a reflection on what the so-called talent in Hollywood is like. Like there is a part of this premise about a female pop star being robbed of autonomy and agency in life that could work with the right perspective especially in light of what we know happened with Ke$ha and Britney Spears, giving the character some sex kinks could also work with the right type of writing. But it's very clear the subject matter is more fulfilling the writers fetishes (Particularly The Weeknd) than actually have anything interesting to say.

    Another point about intimacy coordinators, they don't just protect Jocelyn from exploitation, but also ensure that the crew are okay with nudity and aren't participating out of coercion. It's for everyone participating in a nude shoot, not just the model.

  • @twily4
    @twily410 ай бұрын

    The purpose of an intimacy coordinator is to basically make sure everyone consents to on-set nudity/sex. It's pretty common in Hollywood to have one on set, especially for shoots that involve nudity/sex. If you go to a shoot not expecting a nude scene, and all of a sudden a chick pops her tits out and someone there didn't consent, then the production is liable for that. Basically before a nude photoshoot/movie sex scene is filmed, the intimacy coordinator has to get written consent from everyone on set that day, sign waivers, all that shit. But the show basically portrays the IC as a dweeb whose "getting in the way", which is dumb. They're very important!

    It was a really odd scene, the way it was inserted into an already chaotic opening. It felt like Sam was taking an opportunity to give the middle finger to everyone who's complained about all the nudity in Euphoria, especially when it comes to Sydney Sweeney. Either that or it's his fantasy of what he wishes he could do to intimacy coordinators. Or both. Dude just wants nudity in everything without needing permission. *ahem* That's the main problem with the show - all we can see are Sam and The Weeknd's influence. None of the characters are telling their own stories - what little story there is - so it all feels like one big self-insert. I really wish we'd been able to see Amy Seimetz's version. It might have actually been a good show.

    If Jocelyn got Tetris man out of her life, and used the experience with abuse to motivate her to write an album about Tetris man that went ultra mega platinum, then it would be a much better story. They could have gone for something like the Frank and Amy Winehouse story. Where Frank, her ex, is a womanizing cheater, manipulator, etc, and Amy got him out of her life and wrote an entire album mostly about him that really kicked off her enormous career. But the damage she suffered from him and people like him eventually contributed to her enormous heroin and crack addiction and subsequent downfall.. So the victim overpowered and outplayed her abuser, but the abuse still happened and didn't go away from revenge, and thus she still got wrongfully afflicted by the vices people use to forget abuse like addiction. That would have been a far more nuanced and interesting story. Damn man, Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.. They can't even rip off ideas from real life anymore.. They think their farts smell so good that they keep crapping out this type of garbage media.

    There's something inherently creepy in a male writer creating a character that says she's into the guy with "rapey vibes". All through the show the writers fantasize in a glamorous way about a victim of abuse that copes with it by... enjoying more abuse? I'm sure this happens in the real world, but the overall tone of the show relating to this is just of really bad taste. I am close friends with an actual victim of abuse that often has self destructive behavior towards her own sexuality and let me tell you, it's not sexy and not glamorous by a long shot. It's a very, very masculine perception that victimized girls can gain back their power by being overly sexualized or by giving in to their own dark side - over the guidance of an aggressive male, of course. I am really glad how the entire KZread united to criticize this show, I would hate to see young girls thinking this is actually how you cope with trauma.

    After watching the entire show as per released episode. The only thing I can say that's a genuine bash of the show is that the show felt like *nothing ever really happened* . It's as if everyone was introduced only to be cast aside. Joselyn is the only character who has any "real" development but everyone else is along for the ride. The bigger issue is that once the story gets to a point where something interesting is actually happening, it gets wrapped up immediately. I'm starting to think that The Weekend simply chose to be a part of this project to add to the hype of his tour and get those gargantuan ticket sales. I’m sorry but I just have SO MANY damn questions about this “I’m so dark and edgy” a** show🤡. If Jocelyn was “in control the whole time” why is she literally in shambles after finding out that tedros had her work friend take her to his club on purpose? Why did that matter? It can’t be because she feels betrayed by her friend because it’s not like she values her best friends, so why would she be worked up about a work friend she went out with once? It can’t be because she feels betrayed by tedros, given that her whole thing was “I’m gonna let him think he’s in control but it’s actually me😏”. It can’t be because Diane took the song because she didn’t even WANT it. it’s just so DUMB💀. Also if tedros is such a *cRaZy* dangerous scumbag, why does he turn into such a sniveling drunk mess the minute she pays attention to another dude? Why isn’t he going off? Where’s the rage? What happened to the guy that kidnapped some girl like why even bring that up at all? Furthermore there were not enough manipulation tactics at play for ANYONE to become brainwashed by ANYONE on this show. They tried to do this whole “build them up then break them down” thing but assaulting someone on ONE occasion then giving them a sponge bath ain’t gonna brainwash a damn thing🥴. Neither would going from adoring tedros then suddenly wanting nothing to do with him in a matter of what a few days maximum? And the whole “she was USING Tedros for INSPIRATION!” Thing is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS because there was nothing inspiring about that man😭‼️ Jocelyn was already a “sexually free” gworl and it’s not like it’s hard to find someone who will choke you out and talk nasty during sex. It was clearly never hard to find a complete jerk in her industry. They genuinely want us to think that tedros was some kind of MUSE when there’s nothing special about him… not to mention the music he “inspired” WASN’T EVEN THAT GOOD. I was genuinely waiting for the music to SLAP and it just sounded like a pretentious edgy teenager who’s listened to Lana Del Rey once💀. I swear the music had to be thrown together last minute. But as bad as everything was, the most unbearable part of this show was The Weeknd’s corny scoring. Initially it was just slightly annoying but then it became impossible to ignore. I bust out LAUGHING at “🎶 I’ve been manipulated a thousand tiimees🎶😔” it actually brought tears to my eyes it was so funny to me.. and I’m not even entirely sure why😭. The weeknd and levinson fr just need to take this L and move on because it’s embarrassing at this point🤡🤡.

    ah yes the show where behind the scenes, The Weeknd hijacks a woman's script and ruins it by leaning less on the "female perspective," then unsubtly tells whatever he be into (misogyny, no surprise), further making this ironic of what this show is trying to do initially

    Anybody else notice the recent trend of shows that are edgy for the sake of being edgy with every character being an asshole? Euphoria and Succession come to mind. People will say “but it’s so real that’s why it’s so edgy and everybody acts like an asshole” but I just think it’s cringe and an excuse for lazy writing.

    I mean there is a lot of cult stuff here that has happened in real life. You’d be surprised how easily it happens. Even seemingly normal and well adjusted people fall for things all the time and there’s interesting psychology behind it all. Also with the masochism/abuse thing. It’s common knowledge that some people respond to trauma by partaking in BDSM relationships as a means of taking control back. But this show handles it all so poorly. I think partially because they only had 5 episodes to tell a very complex story and focused on filling most of it with over the top scenes and moments to allow The Weeknd to show how edgy and cool he thinks he is. I don’t think the story itself is all that bad. I feel like something compelling could’ve been explored with this concept. But it was executed in the worst way imaginable. I wish we knew how the original was supposed to be before it was taken over and changed.

    Maybe they would have been able to tell a believable and engaging story if they would just knock it off with the random six scenes that didn't add anything to the plot. This slop has lemon-fic tier plot writing.

    But the last episode they say that she lied about her trauma , for a cheap plot-twist I agree they could have made a great show how not managing your trauma can screw you up , the struggle of an artist , manipulation , how predators seem harmless , fill your void and toss you aside but they wasted so many opportunities to just show sexual scenes
