The Identical Twins Who Conquered Halo

Ойындар

When it comes to the world of competitive Halo, two twin brothers will never be forgotten.
Halo’s successful yet turbulent esports scene spanned the early 2000s, and while it’s mostly forgotten now, there are some out there who remember the hype.
Tom and Dan Ryan-Better known as the Ogre Twins-were the kings of Halo hype. They weren’t just talented. They were the undisputed kings of competitive Halo.

I started at Penn State main campus in 2006. I remember meeting Team Carbon in 2007 there. I used to buy weed from a guy who lived in the Frat house they practiced out of. I was always a big gamer, and I went to meet him one time and he was hanging out in the team's "practice room" (just one of the larger bedrooms in the frat). I played a lot of Halo 2 at the time, so I immediately was like "oh, cool, you guys play." And I think it was Ghost that I talked to mostly but he instantly goes "Yea, we won the World Championships last year, hoping to repeat." I was like.... WTF. Other than the competitive CS scene which was dying down at that point due to CS Source, I hadn't had any exposure to an actual professional gaming scene. Cool guys.

I remember the love and nostalgia me and all my friends had for competitive halo 2. Matchmaking was ruthless and you were as good as your BR and always wanted the sniper. But playing ranked, everyone knew of the ogre twins. How simple, yet insanely complex that game was. But there was nothing better than playing 4v4 brs on lockout with a set of guys you trusted.

Watching the Ogre's battle T-Squared teams was epic and is what led me to become a huge esports fan. They had the twin esp and were reading each other's minds.

I always loved how their team name was Final Boss very appropriate for them as they would literally be the last & hardest “boss” to play against. I miss Halo I hope Halo PC can bring some of it back.
