Alot of people when playing these games (especially certain FF titles), think they're the only one getting kidney punched in the feels, and so probably a little embarrassed that a game is drawing that kind of emotional reaction from them. Edit: and crying is normally a very private act, so if we see people open enough to do it publicly and it's actually genuine, it's indeed fascinating and people can empathize

The Line that ALWAYS gets me is the soft spoken words "Or the Dreams that have Faded" during her last speech then cutting to scenes from the game Just makes me Sob. This is and forever will be my favorite game ever made.

One of the smartest moves on FF10's part is that it's a well-done love story at the center, but the words aren't actually said until the tragic end.

@@acoojl Oh I hated this so much as a teenager and still hate it today. She said clearly "Thank You" but the stupid americans needed to change the words. Im glad the german subtitles where so on point.

Everybody the first time they hear "To Zanarkand" at the beginning of the game: "That's a nice song." Everybody hearing "To Zanarakand" after beating the game: "The tears! They won't stop!"

After playing this game as a kid .. nothing ever came close or will.

My favorite comment on one of these streams was while Yuna was defeated one Aeon after the other, and the player realized they couldn't die because of auto-life. The viewer said, "This isn't about physical damage. This boss fight is about emotional damage."

It's crazy because no matter how many times I see this ending, it never gets old. It's so powerful

I'm already crying by this point, especially after she falls. But the look Tidus gives after she says I love you is so full of love and heartbreak it triples the pain 😭 such beautiful animation

Tidus’ face when she says it is what chokes me up everytime 😭😢

In Japan its very rare for even couples to show such a direct display as declaring "I love you" to one another. The impact and finality of her saying "Thank You" in Japanese in this scene carries a lot of weight. After reacting emotionally and racing to hug him.. but phasing through him... she regains her composure and does the only thing left that she can, by consoling him with her thanks for not only saving her life, but the entire world. The English "I love you" is good too, just really very different in meaning. Great work in translating not only the words but the cultural differences.

Yup. People who complained about it are those who just wanted transliteration without actually knowing why those words were spoken and what it actually meant. If it's that easy to translate languages, we would have no need of expert translators after machine translators became cheap.

Same with Aerith and Cloud dream date before her death in ff7 rebirth. She says - I really like you. But there is liking and LIKING... He - wtf is going on. Whole day you behaved strangely. She hugs him saying exactly what Yuna said and then says - don't blame yourself(for my death). English doesn't give it justice and could even be a friendzone reaction.

Been playing this game for 20 years. You'd think by now I have no more tears to shed. Nope, still crying, still feeling things

This fucking game does it right! I seen a streamer be happy af to beat jecht and the aeons only to eventually realize what this means halfway through the battle. I am continuously impressed years later with this masterpiece.

My fav is the last girl. Before Yuna falls through Tidus and says I love you, Nyx commented in her original stream that they "at least need to hug", then when Yuna goes to do just that and falls through him. Poor Nyx! The Tears!

I think her exact words when Tidus started walking away were, "At least hug her goodbye." At which point all the commenters and stream viewers gave her a collective, "Be careful what you wish for!"

"why can't they just be together?" That made me cry harder than anything I've ever heard. So naive, yet so poignant and focused. If only we could, my sweet.

To me, the most touching thing about this video is reading all the comments and realizing how many tender souls there still are in this world..❤️

To me, the most powerful moment isn’t when Tidus turns to Yuna saying ‘I love you’. It’s when Tidus embraces Yuna fading away. That beautiful panning shot, the climax of the orchestra. That’s the full realisation of the sacrifice Tidus has made, and that Yuna’s confession is so fleeting. That breaks my heart.

The real dagger through the heart for me on FFX is in the epilogue. You've barely pulled yourself back together after the phantom hug and Tidus high-fiving his dad. Then you see and hear Yuna whistling on the dock, trying to call Tidus out for Tidus. Kitase, you magnificent bastard . . ..

Do you remember FFX-2 epilogue? Yeah. Whistle.

That line hit hard af more than ive ever heard it used anywhere else. They set it up too well. FFX G.O.A.T

Oof, and that sound track just hits so hard too. I'm not really one for love stories, but this one was just crazy powerful. This is why we love FF games, the emotional connection to the characters.

I'm playing this game for almost 20 years. This scene...... It always makes me cry. Hearing Yuna say those words is so heartbreaking. 😭😭

It's not the words that get to me. It's that damn hug right afterwards as the music kicks in. No need for words, just a final hug they can't even physically feel, but at the same time both feel it stronger than anything in their lives before. They will never have this moment again, so they will have to make do with what they have before being separated forever. It's sad, it's depressing, and above all it's the perfect way to end this story, crowned by Yuna's speech at the very end. Even when your loved one is gone, the love will never fade, as long as you remember them and what they mean to you. Sometimes there's no need for a happy ending. Sometimes it's much better to end a story on a bittersweet, emotional note, and this game proves it.

I am not a very emotional man, but that scene hit me.

I cried like a baby when I saw this for the first time as a kid. Never been close to being in love at that point of my life but there is no way to watch this scene without feeling some type of emotion. When she finally said I love you the fam broke and in came the flood of tears. The story telling in FF7 and 10 is unmatched, which is why they are my 2 favorite FF games of all time.

She hold it back to herself so badly. She knew she had no choice but to let it go. She loves him truly. The next sequel of ff x-2 brings me to tears again. They do know how to make people cry.

What gets people and myself included is yuna is I love you goodbye to a dead person. We can all relate to that and why it's so powerful. I literally think of my dead loved ones during this scene and I can't hold back the tears. I love you forever

One of the greatest moments in gaming in my opinion. Her speech at the end is also heartbreaking.

Man, I remember playing this when I finally got my ps2. Seeing people play it for the first time is nostalgic af.

My breaking point is the line: "I'm sorry I couldn't show you Zanarkand."

Yeah, I still get a little teary eyed when I get to this part years later 😅. This and her final speech when she says “and those we’ve lost” and it has the flashbacks to all the characters. Tears bro, tears 😅😂

I was 18 when this came out. Summer before starting university for the first year. Sat for weeks playing this game. Got really into it. Would drink beers and play through parts of it. Maxed my characters out, and got ready for the final boss, as I had done for 7, 8, and 9. The final fight seemed anti-climactic because everyone was at such a high level. Started watching the ending cutscene, and man, it did fucking break me. I shed a tear and have no embarrassment whatsoever for doing so. This is one of the best endings to a game I've ever seen. The game itself is great, but this ending, was genius.

I like that they changed the translation for the western audience. It is meant to have a greater impact, and the Japanese "Thank you" that she says doesn't impact as hard in the west.

well at this point it was already obvious that they love each other after the "suteki da ne" scene so no need to say it. BUT saying thanks for sacrificing himself for her world and mission is what that thank you is all about.

do you realise how much this can mean? She's thankfull for a sh*t load of things. When they first met, she just made her first step to her death. She never imagined to ever come back and EVERYONE was thankfull to her sacrifice. He, not knowing that, was the only kind of relief she had during her pilgrinage. And at the end of this pilgrinage, her whole world crumble into dust. All the things she believed true, all lies. The only one standing next to her the whole time? Tidus. Who saved her life? Tidus. Who taught her love? Tidus. Who made her want to live again? Tidus. Who taught her how to wistle? Tidus. So yeah. I think "thank you" is the least we can say. I know, i speak to much but i love this game. Maybe i'm gonna play it a 5th time 🥲

Damnit, I played this a decade ago and it still brought me to tears.

Man, I watched few times reaction from few people and my tears keeps flowing as it go..darn, this hit me hard.

I cried my eyes out during this cutscene, wept so much. Never has a game had this effect on me before

I was 19t when I played this game. I was teen that had went through a lot and I hid my emotions a lot. I played this game and was so intrigued. But when I played the ending, my brother was watching me play. I saw this part and I cried so hard. My brother had never seen me cry was just in shock. This story was just so well written,

I remember being around 10 years old and finishing this game and being so devastated that i didn't play the end for another 5+ years. And i replay this game once a year atleast to this day and im 26

I’ve played this game and seen this end scene countless times, but it still feels like twisting the knife in my heart every time.

Then the horror of trying to get the level of completion needed in X-2 so you can see the secret ending to soften this ending.

That was so tough watching Titus fade out like that. I ONLY played X-2 just to get to the ending and see what happened. Never needed a 100% more than for that.

10 years, and this shit still breaks me up.

“I love you” is good for the international version because the emotion was expressed directly and clearly. But it is also good to know the original “Thank you” in Japanese version. It contains deeper emotion. Not only thanks for saving the world and her life, but also thanks for the accompany in this journey and bringing loves to her.

saying those three words especially in voice acting takes a lot of good practice to be able to resonate those emotions and hit it back to the viewers Good job to the VA of Yuna for that pivotal character moment. Watching the girls react here - hee hee. Its sweet especially 2:24 girl. See Tidus hearing those words uttered and his facial expression - it’s actually the only time I feel for the guy. Most of the time he somehow annoys me

I find that ff 10 is the best story ever since the East is filled with love and destruction with a semor character with a narcissistic evil side.

This secene brought tears to my eyes, too.😥 "The true love, we take with us".👭 And Yuna's love, is a true love.❤ This kind of love, is hard to find nowadays, and harder to find in real life.

The connection between all characters is somethin unseen in a few games

It was the "I love you" that gutted me the most --- and the way he turned back to her, the sadness on her face as the words sank in. I was surprised to learn that she apparently didn't say that in the original Japanese version. Usually in games and anime I tend to prefer the Japanese to the English dub, but the "I love you" was a really nice touch on the part of whomever adapted this script. It made the moment all the more heartbreaking in my opinion. Although I'm sure it's probably just a difference in terms of impact between Japanese and Western culture.

moreorless yeah, for those who don't know, Yuna says "Thank you." in the japanese version. now, the thing is, japanese culture in known to be more subtle on expressions of love. Some examples being how one person translate a love confession from another language into japanese into "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" since they'd rarely ever say it outright without feeling weird or talking about how you would want to eat someone's miso soup every day would be interpreted as a marriage proposal. (Though I believe younger generations are more straightforward in comparison these days) So Yuna telling Tidus "Thank you." /IS/ a love confession for Japan (and it's why Tidus makes the face he makes regardless). ... However, I would imagine it'd be Too Vague for us to catch that immediately and I can already imagine people yelling "THAT'S IT? THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY?!" so good job for whoever made that choice.

In Japanese, it works in my opinion, because you can really hear the strain in her voice and how she's just so overwhelmed with emotion that that's the only thing she can say. But I think the more direct approach works better for the Dub.

We have Alexander O. Smith, the lead translator, to thank for that. I remember him saying that it took quite a bit of convincing to change the line to "I love you," since the Japanese staff were resistant to the idea at first. He knew that "thank you" in English wouldn't have the same impact due to language and cultural differences.

"Thank you" would've been more powerful if they actually said they love each other before. They didn't, so I agree that the English dub wins on that one (which is something along the lines of what @imitationflower said at the end of their comment, they barely talked about it, so "I love you" is more powerful). In the original, I assume she thanks him not only for saving her, but for making her grow as a person.

It's such rad sadness and very hurtful.

This ending hurts more the older you get, when I was young this ending wasn't as painful as my heart didn't really have enough experience regarding love, departures, breakups, etc.

Nxyipuffs reaction is probably the most brutal to watch. If you've ever watched a glass vase fall and smash into a thousand pieces thats what that looked like.

This scene is brutal. Seeing many people react to it back to back broke me in a few minutes. I welcome a good cry, FFX is the Best !

Wasn't that a screw up of some kind? I read an article a while back saying that it was a fan fiction that got left on the authors desk that got put out there instead or something.

for me what hurts the most is when she falls through him and hits the ground, cause even Tidus wasnt expecting that, he full tried to embrace her full weight and she just fell through. Made the moment so much more real for me that he was gone

What hurts the most is that Squenix made this most perfect of love stories. And then proceeded to stomp all over it every chance they got afterwards

It’s the music of the older Final Fantasy games that always gets to me. They’re just packed with so much emotion that no words are needed.

@@budakbaongsiah XI was the first online one, right? Not an online gamer so I never played it, and XII’s music just didn’t feel as grand as the old ones did.

Funny thing is since I played X-2 without finishing X, I knew what "happens" to Tidus, but I never actually looked up the ending or even how the later parts of the cutscenes looked, or even the reason of WHY Tidus wasn't there. I knew what was coming and it still hit like a ton of bricks. I still got to experience the music, the voice acting, the context, all of that despite knowing that one bit in advance and it *STILL* hurt. Well done, Final Fantasy X.

That whole scene is so brutal emotionally. The story and emotions of this game were so amazing and that is why it is my favorite offline FF game. It is a shame that so many people want to focus on a forced laugh scene when they judge this game.

I played this game when I was in middle school and I was still too naive about everything especially about love, so I wasn't sad about the ending of this game. But when I got older and saw the ending of this game after a long time.. damn.. it turned out to be really sad and painful!

Finished ffx for the first time recently and this story was depressing
