THE HUSKY WOLF - Do huskies have wolf in them?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

For many years people assumed that the Chukchi People staked their Siberian Huskies out to be mated by wild wolves to enhance the genetics and strength of the Siberian Husky. Is this true? Is the Siberian Husky in fact a Wolfdog or is this all myths and legends....... Find out today when Anneka reveals the cloudy and primitive past of the Siberian Husky and answers once and for all if he is really a wolfdog?

4 or 5 walks a day, of about 30 minutes each time, maybe a bike ride along with them, play time, more play time, running around a bit, it's like having a second job. You need to have space and time for one. If you don't have enough time to play too much, having a second Husky is a good option at least make sure you give them their walks. They are completely fine and easy dogs and they will show you amazing affection if you have give them their needs, but if you don't you'll have a living nightmare amongst yourself.

Huskies have closer wolf descent in them than most dogs tho. The only few pure dog breeds that have more wolf in them are the Sheba Inu, malamutes, Czechoslovakian wolfdog and maybe one or two more.

I did the Embark DNA test for my adopted Husky to find out she is 100% Siberian Husky to my delight. But it saddened me to think someone had to give her up at 6 years old. I don't know what the life circumstances were but she is now a part of my motley pack forever. She is not part wolf but she has a lot of wolf traits per Embark, no matter, I love her no matter what! 🐺💖🥰

We also just adopted a Husky who was surrendered she is 4 years old. Did the Embark DNA test, surprise she is 100% Siberian Husky. I also felt sad for her and maybe the family who gave her up. She is the only girl in house with 3 brothers who have some Husky in their DNA. I have only seen Husky’s with white faces, she looks like the dog in these videos, dark mask. The lady who does these videos called them the “Super Models” of the Husky world looks like what she called a “Show Husky.”She is beautiful we just adore her, very sweet. The same we would love her no matter what. ❤❤

It's also worth noting that the Chukchi often didn't stake their dogs outside at night. Siberians were allowed to sleep in the tents where they could help keep children warm in the Siberian nights. It's thought that that's part of the reason why the breed has a real affinity for children and why they tend to be so cuddly.

If I remember right, they would stake their dogs out when it was the warmer months to deter bears, Bears would see them as a wolf pack and steer clear, in the colder months the bears were hibernating and they brought them in for warmth.

I’d love to see an episode about the Karelian Bear Dog! They are known for being “untrainable” and many people even refer to them as one of the most difficult dog breeds to keep. I grew up with one and must admit she was probably better behaved than our German Shepherd and White Swiss Shepherd. She always walked off leash, we didn’t even bother to put a collar on her when she was older (and btw we live in Berlin, so lots of traffic and people). She was an absolute dream dog. I think many people would be interested in an episode about them as it seems like they aren’t very popular outside of Scandinavia :)

I've never even heard of that breed. I'm gonna look that up. Are there alot of those dogs, or are they on the decline? Myself, I had a couple Doberman dogs in the 80s and had never heard of pitbulls then. (BC Canada). I noticed in the 90s, a huge decline in Dobermans and Rottweilers while pitbulls were on the rise. I don't like those dogs. Not because of fear, but I just think they're ugly. I love dogs whose faces resemble their ancestor wolf, or ones that are fluffy and full of fur. It's sad to see breeds go extinct to make way for some new fad breed. Now I'm off to Google the Karelian Bear dog. Have a great day! 👋😊

i had a wolf malamute mix, i never told people that i didn't know well that she was part wolf. the reason why was that if by chance she ever nipped at someone they could get the law involved and she would have been put down just for having "aggressive wolf" DNA and not be treated fairly as a normal dog that just happened to bite someone.

My husband and I have over 31 years of experience with wolves, Malamutes and Siberian Huskies! My very first dog wasn’t really a dog at all but a Malamute/Timberwolf. I had him for 11years and after he passed I met my husband through his kennels. He had Malamutes and Siberian Huskies but also one White Arctic Wolf, three Red Wolves and three Timberwolves. My interest was in the Malamutes at the time. I got the male and female from his Malamute kennel. The male was a malamute and the female was a malamute/red wolf. Since I already had experience and knowledge of wolves, I also knew that while most wolves in general do behave particular ways, the temperament varies with different types of wolf species, eg. an Arctic wolf might have a different temperament compared to a grey wolf or a Timberwolf etc., My female also looked the part of a Malamute. Her temperament was of the sweetest nature but she mainly took the lead at being the alpha around other dogs in the kennel. Her son, who was a red and white Malamute was also a good alpha but wouldn’t come up against his mom. After years of raising the Malamutes and Siberians, I can say that these are awesome animals to have. Because of our knowledge and experience with the breed, I can confidently say that while Siberians are stubborn as some would classify them, we tend to look at their stubbornness in a different way. What some would call stubbornness, we call it a slight difference of opinion with how the dog perceives what you want it to do. Believe me, I owned the first Malamute/Timberwolf as a first time dog owner and if some think a Siberian husky is stubborn, try a strong willed Malamute/Tiberwolf! There’s nothing more headstrong than that combination, I don’t believe. We recently loss the last female Siberian husky from my husband’s kennels. My son took over the brother and sister to her. I got her as a puppy and she was the sweetest girl you could ever own. We are getting two more Siberians soon but she was the end of an era to our kennels and I wouldn’t have changed anything now that I look back on it!

Very educational video. As a person that has a wooly Siberian husky. Her name is Luna. She is almost all white, but has some darker markings, she looks like a wolf, she has the snout for it, but not the head. However she kind of looks like she has malamute in her, from her tail, her tail comes up over her body and, floofs out like one. And her eyes are brown. Even though we know she is a Siberian, we still want to do a DNA test on her. Just for the hell of it

I really thought I had a wolf-dog for years. She acted so much like a wolf, looked the part, and everyone I met who had wolves or wolf-dogs, said they agreed. Got the DNA test and she's just a very interesting looking mixture. 80% Alaskan Malamute, 20% Siberian Husky, very dark red and white coloring, nearly 100 pounds. She was very tall, long legs, long snout, one amber/yellow eye, one blue.

I have never understood why people think that Huskies look like Wolves. Sometimes having the same colorations and 4 legs is about the only similarities I see. They have a complete difference coat, structure and behavior. Also all dogs have eyebrow muscles that give that classic "puppy dog" face but wolves do not possess these facial muscles. (I have also actually wondered in high percentage Wolfdogs whether they have these?)

So true! A friend of mine always said that his husky looked like a wolf while she had raven black and white coloration (never seen on real life wolves). Meanwhile my all black gsd weights way more than his husky and I've heard people calling him "wolf like" and it makes my friend mad hahaha. He got himself a dog and thought it was a wolf hybrid or something like that but ended up having naturally underweight pupper. Huskies are beautiful on their own. I find comparisons to wolves always dumb because then husky look seems always more artificial.

Growing up I had a GSD-Akita-Timber Wolf 🐺 in Canada and he was wonderful with us kids and with guarding the farm animals. He was HUGE and killed raccoons who tried to get our chickens. Very pack oriented and loved the family to be together. Lived 16 years. Never really thought about the wolf part but I still prefer dogs who look “wolfy” to dogs who don’t, like boxer, pug etc. I like when my Husky cross howls because it reminds me of my childhood dog. Part wolf but still the most loving loyal dog and definitely not the scary creature some people believe they are.

Loved this episode of course! Tho wished they also talked about life with one of these types of dogs. When i rescued my husky (mix?) From a family who could no longer keep up with her, They said at the end as we were parting away...ughh by the way her grandpa had 30% wolf. I was like ok?? Part of me wasnt sure if he was joking or not. Long story short, they picked us to adopt her (I've been a professional petsitter, dog trainer and dog walker for 13 years so they knew i could keep up with her and give her the life that she needed) and yes there are somethings where im like she's soo primative! She's a whole other animal compared to a dog. But, there are some traits she has where I'm like dang they need to incorporate this and that back into the gene pool of dogs. As far as wolf dog...we don't tell many people. People get weirded out or think she's vicious or destructive but she's soo far from that. Usually we just say she's a husky mix or a northern inuit. One day we'll splurge and do the embark dna kit. We did the wisdom panel on my other dog and i don't think it was all that accurate. She does make a great pack dog. She's my red dog's emotional support animal but she's also great with my clients dogs too.

It's amazing how the huski has been unchanged for so long. One of the purest dog breeds on Earth. This is how dogs were meant to look, without so much cross-breeding over the centuries: like wolves. Also, since a huski has been so unchanged, it probably has more ancient wolf DNA than the average pet dog, but it's still such a small amount that it's insignificant. They have nowhere as much wolf DNA as a wolfdog, so are nowhere near as aggressive natured.

Huskys get put to sleep because of morons who think they are pretty but don't realize how much work and attention they need. Usually at about 1 to 1.5 years old during their "terrible twos" when they can be very destructive. The dog pounds are full of them. Huskys are really a basket of contradictions.

I always find it a little annoying that someone without a Husky tells me that my dog is more wolf than others. I mean whatever you say bud, an ancient dog breed is an ancient dog breed but 40.000 years of evolution is still 40.000 years of evolution, no matter if it's a Husky or a Chihuahua.

I'd love to know difference between Alaskan malamute and a basic malamute. Had both, shame I can't attach photo's.

In Spite of decreased cranial size modern dogs are extremely attuned to human beings, more than we deserve I'd say. They're capable of great acts of seeing emotional empathy. They're uncannily able to read our emotional facial expressions. They understand pointing and can predict our every action. That's why the whole idea of "service 🐕‍🦺 dog" is ever broadening

I think that’s where people get confused. They’re an ancient breed which weren’t bread to rid of all the behavior in a wolf. I have a Shepsky and while she looks like a wolf to many (a very small wolf lol) I know that she is not a wolf dog. I can attest though that Gerbarian Shepskies are such a fun mix.

We've got a Pyrenees/Husky/Malamute mix that tested as about 2% gray wolf! That little smidge of wolf actually come from his malamute parentage, not husky. Wolf matings happen with LGD breeds too. Wolfdog puppies rarely perform well at the functions at the owner needs the dogs for, and make terrible pets (for most people), so they have usually been culled. Staking a dog in heat out is a terrible way to bring wolves close to camp and possibly get the dog killed. I seriously doubt that was a common practice.

I have just adopted a young female siberian husky (confirmed pure breed), she is a real cutie and extremely friendly, trainable and if you respect her, she obeys immediately. She is also quite intelligent and extremely quite not a sound only to attract attention on friend when greeting. At 6 months this young female weight 22 Kg and 58 cm and the shoulder, she has huge legs. Since she was 3 months old, I am walking her 3 hours/day: one hour in the morning sniffing and 2 hours in the evening sniffing and jogging (we live i Singapore and try to avoid the heat of the day). I am a little bit confused regarding the size and weight of my little girl as she does not fit any standard - could it be that the few wolf-like gene she has overtook and is growing more like a wolf would or are the grow charts for huskies incorrect/inaccurate?

From actual sled dog natives from aslaska and russia and canada. They would sometimes breed wolves to dogs purposefully. The labrador husky is the best version of the various related tribal spitz to get the wolf genetics from. But also depends on tribe and area of living for certain tribes. The deep forrest villages more cut off from modern society or almost entirely cut off from modern society are the places hou still find the wolf content lineages although often compromised by more modern breeds for speed and endurance.
