In Twilight yeah, there was this stupid triangle, but in Hunger Games it's obvious that Katniss was NEVER about romance, romantic things or romantic relationship, and her problems with Gale and Peta were way different than "omg I don't know If I should bang a shirtless wolf or sparkly boi". For Katniss everything was about survival

In the books, the red haired girl is said to be very very smart (more than what we see in the movie). In the movie, when we see her train before the arena, she's trying to remember every plant out there, the edible and poisonous ones, etc. It's implied in the movie, but it's basically said in the book that she committed suicide. Because of course she knew that those berries would kill her. It was what she was best at, knowing stuff...

No, in the book, she's fooled by Peeta's genuine ignorance. Katniss thinks that because they were preparing to eat them, Foxface didn't question them.

Jenn V I really don’t think so. I read the book a few months ago so I remember well. When Katniss founds her dead, her body is emaciated, she was dying of hunger before the berries. So she probably killed herself because she knew she couldn’t win with so little strength. Of course anyone is free to think what they want, but saying she made a mistake on what she was best at is diminishing her intelligence. So in my opinion, she committed suicide. But we can never truly know...

@@camillem8610 Very beginning of chapter 24 (page 320 in my copy): It takes a while to explain the situation to Peeta. How Foxface stole the food from the supply pile before I blew it up, how she tried to take just enough to stay alive but not enough that anyone would notice it, how she wouldn't question the safety of berries we were preparing to eat ourselves. And on page 324: I can't pretend I'll miss her, but I have to admire her. My guess is if they had given us some sorry of test, she would have been the smartest of all the tributes. If, in fact, we had been setting a trap for her, I bet she'd have sensed it and avoided the berries. It was Peeta's own ignorance that brought her down. I've spent so much time making sure I don't underestimate my opponents that I've forgotten it's just as dangerous to overestimate them as well.

Jenn V Well thank you for typing all of that! I mean you’re probably right and the author never meant for her anything remotely close to suicide... But I don’t think I even /want/ to change my views on her death. She was so smart, it would be a shame to me that she just made a mistake. But thank you again for taking the time to prove your point with proof! Not so many people do that :)

Those dogs are WAY more terrifying in the books, because they all have the faces of all of the tributes who were mudered.

It's the idea that other animals are unintelligent or without a personality that annoys me. My heart tells me it's wrong to murder an animal if you'd be perfectly fine without doing so. If it's for survaval alone, that's a different story. This is a whole different conversation though.

The scores are from 1 to 12, by giving Katniss an 11 (the only one to get so) she’ll be a target for The Careers. That’s the Gamemakers way of doing what Snow wants and snuffing out the hope. The Careers are the Tributes from Districts 1, 2, and 4 (so there’s usually 6). The leader (Cato) and the Orphan girl (Clove) from D2, the blonde girl (Glimmer) and the guy who killed Rue (Marvel) from D1, the D4 tributes (in the movie the boy wasn’t a Career and died in the Cornucopia, the girl died by the Tracker Jackers in the book but on the first day awhile after the Cornucopia in the movie), the boy from D3 that they left alive because he reactivated the mines where they put the supplies, and Peeta formed The Career Pack for this year’s games. More often than not after The Career Pack kill everybody else it’s a free for all between them at the end. Black guy made it to the final 4, Rue was final 8 so let’s hear it for the black tributes🙌🏾 We weren’t killed off first!

Yeah that's how you can interpret it in the books and I think that was the original intend of Suzanne Collins. But then in the movie they put this scene with Seneca Crane being a dumbass to Snow and being like "well... she deserved it I guess??" and that kinda takes the whole thing away. Which is a shame because the Game Makers are way more cunning than that.

The only thing I feel like doesn’t make sense is when Katniss is stuck in the tree...you’re telling me that one of the tributes from 1&2 couldn’t have killed her? I know Katniss couldn’t have died because she’s a pivotal part of the story, but these tributes are highly trained. Yet Cato couldn’t climb a tree? Clove, who never misses with her knives suddenly can’t make a shot? And Glimmer shoots one arrow and gives up because she missed one time? Don’t get me wrong, I love the HG films and books, but that didn’t make sense to me.

Y'all are too harsh on him... obviously killing humans is different, but he had a limited time to convince Katniss she could win the games. Of course he's not going to feed into her worry. And he didn't give the order to drop those bombs, or to use them the way Coin did. Prim's death was Coin's fault. It's fine to prefer Peeta but don't just hate Gale on principle... Hunger Games is so much more than just a love triangle.

There was a lot of comparison between Rue and Primrose in the books. Katniss saw her sister in Rue and felt so protective towards her and they were both just 12 years old. She later saw Rue in Prim and had PTSD relating to this. So the fact that he got their names mixed up I the start was a huge win haha 😊

6:18 yes, he's crying. Some people's mouths turn up when they cry and it can look like they're smirking/smiling. I am one of those. Carey Mulligan is another person who does this. You can see it a lot in The Great Gatsby.

I saw the title and thought _“anything is better then Twilight”_

Read the books. They explain things way better than the movies. Firstly they were excited about the bread because it is a luxury in their district. Yes it was Prim's first hunger games. Katniss couldn't just grab a couple bags from the stack without blowing herself up. The red haired girl was able to do it because she analyzed where the landmines were and where it was safe to step (she is very smart). She didn't go after Peetah sooner because she didn't trust him. Peetah was with the careers to try and protect Katniss. Everything Peetah did in the games was to protect Katniss. But Katniss didn't know that at the time. She only went after him when she did because it would have looked bad if she just let him die after she was informed that they could both survive. Plus she felt like she owed him because he saved her life with that bread.

Thanx for the video. Fan fact from the book. The hand sign was originaly used on funerals in district 12 to pay respect to the one who died (it meant basically the same as F in the chat). That gives a quite different meaning to it's usage when Katniss volnteered. Later it became a sign of resistance after Rue's death, because Katniss paying respect to Rue started the riots in 11th.

AlmosVajda hunger games is political dystopian and about the things we would do for survival. The romance in the story was specifically to play the audience cuz it got them a higher chance of survival. In the end peeta and katniss stay together cuz they have a bond cuz of the things they went thru. A lot of ppl never saw any romance in the story. It’s also interesting that u could say that the readers who focused more about the romance were the same as the audience in the story who cared only for their romance and didn’t care about anything else. It’s like the author is saying, look at this world and how messed up it is but they ignore it. I love hunger games for just how political it is. U could write so much about the parallels the author wrote with our world and the hunger games world.

District Twelve was filmed near my home in North Carolina. The abandoned ghost town Henry River Mill with its dilapidated houses were used plus the main building for Peter's family bakery is front and center near the main road going through the town.

There’s one thing I don’t remember (even from the books): Peta says that his mother thinks that Katniss could win the Hunger Games (she seems proud) but she didn’t want to give Katniss her bread even if she was Hungry🤷🏼‍♀️

That was before Katniss learned to hunt and the only thing she could think of to keep from starvation was to sell what few possessions they had, or dig around in people’s garbage bins ☝️ Peeta's mother only gained respect for Katniss after she became such a proficient hunter, she could not only keep her family fed, but could afford to sell surplus meat around town.

The rating scale of the tributes goes from 1-12. Giving Katniss an 11 is both becauce of her guts of aiming at the judges (well, the apple, but in their direction) and also to put her on top of the other tributes target list, because they now think she's super dangerous and will want to take her out as soon as possible. It is sort of a roundabout way by the judges to punish her.

The hunger games hand sign is also the Girl Scout sign lol. When I did Girl Scouts I used to whisper to my friend “may the odds be in your favor”
