Animals are really beautiful and such wonderful creations. This world would be so miserable without them. I love my dog Fluffy so much ❤️ She’s the reason I’m going into the veterinary field!

My dad slept on the back porch as a child in Virginia along with his brothers.. They were the elder brothers of the family and he said that on a cold night the dogs would sleep with them to keep them warm. That is why "3 dog night " is a really cold night! He struggled with allowing dogs to come in the house. Now as an 85 year old he says he misses dogs in his life!

Very nice expose of how important veterinary medicine has been for our society. That comment about 'One Health' was my favorite part, the earth, humans, and all other animals are truly interconnected in a physio-health sense, a cool way to look at the greater picture, we all affect and depend on the health of the other components.

I understand your pain. I sadly had to suddenly put my fur baby down yesterday and I’m SO sad and miss him terribly. Eleven years with him just wasn’t enough for me.

I always assumed the pet-animal bond was strengthened because the nuclear family unit bond has become less. (Families stayed close to each other physically for whole lifetimes; now families are spread all over the world.) I never considered that parasite control also played a large part, but it makes complete sense! I'd be lost without my "furkids", but appreciate the fact that I don't have to tolerate fleas and ticks in my life too!

From a psychological standpoint, I would say this is also a big part of it. We are very much social beings but we drift away from that more with each generation. Now it's also people getting married much later and starting to adopt pets for companionship.

I'm a boomer and I loved & lived with a lot of dogs in my life. Nothing has been more worthwhile. I think dogs are God's eyes on earth. They are used & abused all over the world. They see everything through eyes of love.

I'm 54 originally from UK from my earliest memory at 3 - we always had a houseful of dogs, my grand-parents had dogs in the house and so on, it's not till I migrated to Australia that I noticed some Aussies have their dogs outside, it's not acceptable they are companion orientated and need company

I also hated that animal "experts" say not to sleep with your dogs. We love our dogs to be in our house and on our beds. As now one with an auto-immune disease, my dogs will leave my side when I am unwell.

Some of us make light that, God is dog spelt backwards. Is this coincidence or are there similarities between our God and our dog. I'm thinking, The unconditional love that God gives us is the same unconditional love our pet dog gives us. (God's will) But when in our thoughts we choose not to because we don't know how to (Free will), our Dog shows us the way to. As above so below.

Skip the delusional “god” stuff. We evolved to be close to dogs because they followed us around, getting our food scraps. We selectively let the nicer dogs closer, and then started to train them to hunt with and for us. It’s no gift from “god.” It’s hard work done by both species over hundreds of generations to become close and compatible.

I am standing with my son to stop the eradication of Down's Syndrome people. They have been left behind in education and employment opportunities. They need greater control over their finances and respect for their purchasing choices. They should be encouraged to date, have normal relationships, marriage and children. Even today, it is so easy to force them into institutionalized living, perform unnecessary and involuntary neuropsychosurgery upon them. Their view of what's going in the world is as valid as anyone elses and its a lot more caring and empathic than most people. Great challenges are ahead and Downs folks are needed. They are differently but perfectly made. Why when speaking of animals do I bring up Downs. They are considered an endangered species. I believe that the Creator doesn't make mistakes..we, all aspects of humanity and our planetary partners-the animals, fishes, birds, reptiles, plants, insects are needed to work together to restore its balance. We have so much to learn, so much to win..
