we have something we call hulderfest... wich is basically a party about summoning her or making her come out of the forest. and usually for the vibe of that there's a actress usually really beautiful who wares a tail and long blond hair and a very beautiful forest farm dress. and i remember when i was a kid and i was part of one of these parties she chose me to dance with (wich was tradition) and i remember being so damn scared i was crying like a mad kid.. and she would take me out back and tell me she wasnt huldra and she'd hug me because she felt bad about it all.. I remember this so clearly because she scared the living nightmare out of me as a kid.. but its actually a really fun social event. :)

Sounds like a lot of fun!
Känns så konstigt att höra allt det här på engelska
I was interested in your research because here in Mexico (in the Huasteca region of Veracruz) there is a legend of a mythical, folkloric being, an entity with similar (equal) characteristics to the "hundras"... We call them The "Tepas" when researching more about myths from other cultures, I came to your channel, what beautiful videos you make. Regards from Mexico.!
Look; I'm just here to understand why Mimir won't tell Atreus where Brok and Sindri get their last name from.

Thanks for these wonderful videos. I found the music too loud to be able to follow without the captions, which were quite interesting. Nevertheless very informative. Thank you
This reminds me of Robert E Howard's short story 'the frost giant's daughter'
Lovely!

Good video. I'm norwegian and I have heard quite a few stories about her growing up, one saying that she also steals babies and replaces them with her own that she has had with the men she has seduced. What she does with the babies that she replaces, nobody knows I guess

how do you know? i‘ve never seen a submarine - i cannot believe they are real. but in fact i dont know. they could be. let‘s just accept that you do not know if you havent seen it. i as well dont. but declining a possibility without substancial proof is as stupid as naively believing something. i‘d love to hear the story. i dont have to believe in it to enjoy the magic that it adds to this world. i might when something happens like this to me. but for now for the sake of beauty and enjoyment, i encourage anyone to tell their story. us humans love myths and why not just let it be like this. as einstein said „the most beautiful thing a human can experience is mystery.“ so please tell your story good man or woman. i want to listen
I would love to meet a Huldra
@Anna Bridgland - Folklore, Mythology & Fairy Tales >>> *_"Some say she takes them as her husband, and others say that she leaves them alone in the depths of the forest to die."_* So, either way it is *_MARRIAGE._* 😉
So Huldra means Secret. In Dutch the verb 'verhullen' means to conceil.

Hail Ødinn !
Im just here to find out why brok and sindri are called the "huldra brothers" NOW I KNOW WHY
I once read somewhere that, in some tales, they agree to marry human men. Once the wedding is complete, she loses her cow tail. The wording was rather vague though, and I could not tell if it meant that the tail disappears, or if it falls off and falls to the floor.

This is a common theme with the story of the huldra :) In most stories when they are married in a church her tail will fall off. Other stories tell that if she marries a (usually Christian) man, she will lose the tail and become human but she will also lose her beauty, and turn into an ugly/old lady!
@matthewmuir8884

Okay; so the tail falls off. That makes sense, and I can imagine that it would be rather awkward on the wedding day: _"You may now kiss the bride." Everyone at the wedding hears something fall to the floor with a thud, and the audience gasps when they realize the sound came from under the bride's dress._ The huldra losing her beauty is rather odd, but it is an interesting contrast with the female finfolk of Orkney Folklore, who permanently retain their beauty if they marry a human, and turn into a hag if they are forced to marry a finman (I'm more familiar with Scottish folklore than Norse folklore).

According to Norwegian folklore, if any man or child crosses Huldra in the forest, she will trick them into the mountain and close it behind them so they can't escape. She will enchant men with her song and beauty to lure them into the mountain, where she and the other ''undergrounders'' will eat him. She will trick children lost in the woods to trust her like a mother and take them too into the mountain, where she and the other ''undergrounders'' will make the child their servant/slave. That is atleast the folklore stories and fairytales I grew up with here in Norway about Huldra and ''the undergrounders'' (De underjordiske).
I came here to freshen up my norse mythology knowledge for some character designs

Just so you know: Huldra was an excuse men used for having an affair. He would say: "she was so beautiful, I couldn't resist." and the wife just had to understand. I don't think women are that easy tricked these days.
