Indeed, its why I never use the banshee as an insult nowadays, I've heard that deafening wail that shattered even the sturdiest of hearts, a wail of loss. Its not an evil being, merely a signal of death, which we humans often attribute to evil.

You really need to do more research on this 1. I'm Irish & what I know is that what you spoke about the Banshee isn't entirely true. They are not evil by nature, if anyone did hear a Banshee's scream it isn't always the listener who dies, it can be a family member, neighbour or best friend who is the 1 doomed to die. Another less noisy form of banshee is the washerwoman, she can be either young or old in appearance but if you get close enough to see her, you'll notice the river takes on a bloody hue from the clothes she washes, the clothes belong to the man or woman doomed to die. If you did see a screaming banshee, you might notice her combing her hair while lamenting, the golden comb is the only item of wealth she carries.

I live near loughmore which is known for a lot of banshees and my moms side of the family is from there. So there when you hear a banshee in a field the owner dies that night also my grandad saw one, while he was cycling home a banshee was running beside him for a few seconds and he just BOOKED it from there

I read once that the banshee is the spirit of a woman who died in childbirth. In high school 🏫 I had a private teacher 👩🏼‍🏫 who was Irish. And she told me that the banshee will stand outside ur house at night when someone is about to die, but instead of screaming, she combs her hair and cries tears 😭.

My friend told me when I was a kid that she had a liver face and she'd scream throw a comb at you, if it hit you you are going to die. Used to scare me as a child.

Odd because my name is Cliodhna. I am from Ireland. When I was born I arrived extremely prematurely almost dying whilst doctors said for a long time they couldn't find a heart beat. I love music and animals- I play piano. I've worked with the sick in my past. I love plants and nature. I'm only now learning about the mythology of my own name and it is freaking me out

I remember learned about the banshee from my grandpa (have irish blood from his mother side of his family) and told me not to fear or disrespect them. Many were stories about them as messagers that death is coming and they are not evil beings, just fae folks boing her job. like saying "don't shoot messagers if you don't like the message." Plus, I have heard the banshee's cry before (more of weeping than screaming) in different times and places when two members of my family pass away. All at night of their deaths. The second time was grandpa who told me about them. 😥 Anyway great video about them.

The first written stories of the Banshee date back to the 8th Century in Ireland. The term used was the Old Gaelic language word "Ben Side" meaning Otherworldy Woman. Modern Gaelic use the term "Bean Si" meaning Fairy Woman. The Banshee is not malevolent. Her origins stem from women who were employed to : "Keen = Wail and Cry" to release the Spirit of the Dead

Good video, though as an Irish person who has read extensively on Irish mythology, I'm pretty that Banshee's are harmless. They only keen (scream) to warn families who have a member who is about to die (not from the Banshee but something unrelated, like an accident or disease). A family could have their very own banshee until the the bloodline dies out. The requirements for a family having a Banshee is that they must be of noble stock and either that they are of full Gaelic blood or have the prefix's Mc, Mac or O.

Yeah I've also always thought that's what the myth was. I also thought it originated from a fox howl which if you listen does kinda sound like a screaming woman but so does the barn howl's scream.

I remember a story I would hear growing up was that the banshee would leave a hair comb on the ground and if someone found it and picked it up the banshee would come for you.

unless you live close to the water then you have nothing to fear. but a Banshee can be the real threat. imagine if the land your apartment block is built on used to be a forest that was cut down. would a banshee still haunt this ground? would she prey on the humans who took it from her?

Some spirits helped the family with harvest while others protected the home and the area around it. The Banshee only predicts death to let the family know when they have to prepare burial rights and for whom they have to do it for. They don't cause the death themselves but are weeping because their about to lose a member of a family their supposed to watch over.

Banshee is also know as Jungle Pontianak in South east Asia country especially in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, it differ from simple pontianak, this jungle Pontianak is more vicious

When my Mum was about 20 years old in the early 1950’s, she was in a friend’s house getting ready to go to a dance. They heard a scream. The girl whose house they were in looked out the window and said “there’s a banshee on the wall”. Another friend who was there looked out the window but didn’t see anything. 2 weeks later the friend who saw the banshee died. This happened in Belfast, Ireland.

Women's screams already give me anxiety and make me uncomfortable because i think something is wrong which is why Banshe's scare me. Scary Ghost lady with a ear pearcing scream in a forest is a huge NO for me.

As an irish person he got the scream right but everything else is inaccurate.

Sometimes I felt like I am one of the banshees and just now I feel like I could sense my mother's death coming! It's just hard to believe that I'm just like a banshee not only I kept screaming sometimes but I also since some people's death coming and I felt like I am a monster sometimes but I think I should be a banshee for Halloween I don't know what year but if my mother dies my probably become a banshee if not then I'll probably just be a water fairy but if my mom dies I'll be a banshee in a tribute to my mother!
