I know, right? I also like both the UK Connection and The Monster’s Den alongside their other podcast The Contrarians which was started by Martin Poppoff and is usually hosted by Grant. If you haven’t seen this show yet? It’s basically only one ☝️ of them picks out an album which the remaining members disagree on. My personal favourite 💿 ‘s happen to be what I was first exposed to as a kid. So, although I heard Black Sabbath’s Paranoid 1,000,000’s over I woke up one morning after my older sister had a party like she used to the night beforehand and I discovered an 8- track tape of their latest in 1976 “ Technical Ecstasy” and I thought Back Street Kids was the heaviest thing I’d ever experienced in my young life up until then! Another fantastic album is Aerosmith’s “ Draw The Line”! I would eventually get a chance to see them play for my first concert on the “Live-Bootleg” Tour in the Blizzard Of’78! Golden Earring from Australia opened that show in November of this year and everybody nearly got snowed in by the 8’ of ice blocking the entrance of where we were sitting and the band were still amazing even if they were more than likely fucked up; they never missed a beat! I think the addition of Jamie Lazslow is going swimmingly as well. Morning now and thanks for your attention on my ramblings! Great point on Halford Chris! I hate when people get a total pass for saying unacceptable things (about Metal, etc.) and everyone conveniently "forgets" later on when it's fashionable to do so. It's not that they shouldn't be forgiven, so to speak, but let's not pretend those things weren't said or didn't happen.

Bon Jovi “Crush” (2000) for me. Bought it full price based on It’s My Life…and that song is GREAT. But the rest of the album is absolutely forgettable.

It’s funny, that is one of the few bon jovi albums I think are really good. Very average band anyway. Have a nice day is good and sounds exactly like crush. Most of slippery when wet is pretty good. That’s it for their catalogue.

I really felt it when Ryan mentioned the black metal band "TXZDP¥€¢¶" and their 2nd album "^•∆±℅~8(+2". Just joking Ryan.

*junior's eyes* shines with a cool bassfigure and some psychodelic feeling in the intro using fuzz. the song *never say die* has some old skool rock'n'roll moments, so to say.

I can totally relate to Nicks pet peeve about artists disrespecting their old work. They always end up looking foolish. On that same note I hate when guitar players slag off on guitar and say dumb stuff like “guitar is dead” or “guitar is over” then put out non-rocking synthy albums that suck.

Takeaways from tonight's episode: 1. Chris A., Ryan and nice to see Nick in the house 2. "We're both bald so I know we blend together " 3. "...let me be a schoolgirl in college - let me experiment" 4. "Wow, this is $18.95 out the window" 5. "Sorry, Cake fans. I guess there are about 10 of you left" 6. A Pantera album that sounds like bad Judas Priest meets bad Metallica... 7. "The best song ever about pussy and Coors Light" 8. "These guys took a left turn into pure, pure weapons grade bullshit" 12. It hits me at this point in the show that Ryan's background reminds me of the cover of ELO's "Face The Music" album 13. "I don't know what you think of the album Nick, but I think it sucks ass" 14. "...one little corner of that album that didn't suck and make me want to put my fist through the radio" 15. Regarding “Roll the Bones” by Rush, I enjoyed Dreamline, The Big Wheel and Ghost of a Chance as well as Bravado.

Pete - the UFO album misdemeanour came out in 1985, I saw the line- up at Knebworth fair with Deep Purple & an amazing line up of bands that year. Phil wanted to call the band by a different name, but the record company would have none of it. Paul Raymond is on that album (take a closer look at the picture you showed us on the back, lol), & Atomic Tommy is a Japanese born American. Brilliant show as always.

Nick you were spot on I've had the exact same thought regarding bands/artists shitting on metal when it suits. The 90's were riddled with it.

Excellent topic guys! Glad to see the original lineup of Hudson valley squares. My picks: Judas priest-jekyll and Hyde on demolition. For some reason i always loved this. Metallica-st anger from st anger. Easily the best song on an abysmal album Megadeth-kingmaker from supercollider Iron maiden-where the wild wind blows. Don't hate the album but this is easily the best song on the album. Outstanding song System of a down-chopseuy from toxicity. Don't like the album at all but quite like this song I actually like reinventing the steel quite a bit. Especially goddamn electric and yesterday don't mean shit

Nick, check out the version of Bravado on the live album Different Stages. The instrumental outro is one of the greatest pieces of music I have ever heard.

Man I miss this lineup. Along with Butch, Lynn, Steve and occasionally Professor Popoff, this is the best part of my Mondays over the last few years.

I was at the Metallica show in Buffalo. Didn’t have great seats (lower level though), bought them through Ticketmaster the day they went on sale, and if memory serves me correctly, I paid $190/ticket. It was a great show, really. Worth every penny. First time I’ve seen them. The show was 10 days ago and I’m still thinking about it.

I know if he is going to talk shit he should know the difference between tickets the bands sell and verified resale tickets.For guys that usually have good opinions and know what they are talking about they should know the difference between regular tickets and tickets scalped on ticketmaster.But I agree Metallica tickets are not cheap and they have lots of expensive fan packages.

I like the evolution of Opeth. Where they're at now is really good.

Don't agree, to me they 'evolved' from powerful and intense thrash influenced metal into boring mediocre forgettable prog crap IMHO. I am done with them! Boy do I miss Dave Lombardo drummed classic intense Slayer and I love old school psych metal like Inna Gada da Vida or true Dark Side hippie Rock like the Doors or early Sabbath (their 3rd being my favorite)!

@Chris Alo... I am a huge Cake fan and there are songs on that CD I like better than The Distance. I saw them once up in New Hampshire at this club on the beach. They came out and the singer said something like, "So I was in the bathroom and I heard a waitress telling another waitress "I wonder what they are gonna play last? The Distance?!" and they laughed. Well, tonight we are gonna play it first so you can all go home early." They did and no one left. She didn't know they always close with Jolene. I highly recommend that song. Also, I LOVE the Scorpions Unbreakable record. To me that was the best one since the 80s.

Pink Floyd- Fat Old Sun (Atom Heart Mother, 1970) 5. Motley Crue- Smoke the Sky (1994) I find that even albums I'd generally consider weak have two or three songs I like, otherwise I it's something I altogether dispise, so this was kind of challenging. I could pick apart several albums from top names but I stuck to the ones where I really could just think of one. If I could only remember more specifically albums that I heard to a lesser extent several years ago, I could expand. Krokus had a real bad album in the mid-80's called Change of Address, but I can't remember how any of it goes.

I think a good video idea would be albums/songs for when you’re in a certain type of mood. Like albums/songs you listen to when you’re angry, sad, happy, etc

Well i really like the Roll The Bones album, came out when i was 18 and that tour was my first time seeing RUSH so i have great memories linked to that album.

"Eat The Heat" was an Accept album (the first after Udo left). The Scorpions album you're talking about was called "Face The Heat". :)

Chris Alo is 100 percent correct about that Twisted Sister album. I think it was actually supposed to be a Dee Snyder solo album. Atlantic Records made Dee Snyder attach the Twisted Sister name to sell records. Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant) is the opening track and is by far the best of the worst! Yeah, I bought it. Only on cassette though!

Damn Ryan is killing me with his picks. Horror Show, Reinventing, Colony (???), great albums! I’m guessing it’s because I was just a little behind him on my metal journey where my gateway to death metal was through In Flames’ more melodic material. Horror Show was also the first IE album I bought new.

I always thought the Phantom Opera Ghost was pure cheese. The way the male and female vocalist go back and forth is pretty cringe with terrible lyrics. Damien kicks as though and some of the other songs are pretty good.

@@Chaz4543 yea I like Jack and Wolf a lot too. It's definitely a cheesy concept but the riffs are undeniable, plus Barlow can belt like a mfer.

Pantera never had a bad album in my opinion even the 80s stuff, but I'm a couple hours away from where they came from so I may be biased.

First two that come to mind: The Bloodrock album with "D.O.A." on it, and In-a-Gadda-da-Vida.

Grumpy Uncle Alo's comments always take the Cake.

Hey Pete. Went to Boston's web page. It hasn't been updated since 2017 (their tour on that page was from 2017). So who knows if there will ever be another Boston album or tour.

You need to check out Blaze's solo work. Particulary: Silicon Messiah, Tenth Dimension, The Man Who Would Not Die and Promise & Terror. His last few are decent, but the early years are fierce.

That first Blaze live album kicked my ass.

Funny you mention P.S.T. 88. A modern thrash band, well not so much thrash anymore, but a band by the name of Lost Society from Finland covered that song on their 2016 album "Braindead" and it just sounds killer! I think you guys would really dig it and that album and their previous two albums before that are really great underrated young gun thrash/speed metal attack tunes that are awesome.

"X-Factor" is super underrated imo, my 2nd favorite Maiden album! The drums & bass sound great on that album, at times it feels like John Paul Jones & John Bonham jamming, it doesn't sound like Zeppelin, but it has that jamming vibe where the bass/drums are felt! Great album, love Blaze!

The blaze years were really good albums, and when you have Bruce on tracks like Futureal or Sign of the Cross, it's like he never left. Unfortunately for Blaze, he's too different from Bruce and had too big shoes to fill. Look at Ripper, being basically a Halford clone, yet, people HATED him for not being Halford himself. Blaze didn't have a chance with Maiden, but his solo material is awesome though, "The Man Who Would Not Die" is definitely worth checking out.

This was such a great episode! I agree with Nick about artists that talk stink about their past. Don't sh*t on an album that was part of your history because some people may actually like that album. It's like they're dismissing their past either because it wasn't a popular era for the band/artist or they've moved onto other things.

Prime example is Vivian Campbell stating his work with Dio was generic crap and that he was glad he moved on. I mean, fuck me dead, the man wouldn't have had a career without that work, and he has done nothing since that compares. Those albums always meant so much to me and a large part of it was his guitar work.

Nice episode, even if to me no album immediately comes to mind. Every time ticket (or even parking) prices are mentioned for US shows I get in a shock. 500 for Metallica really? Same goes for meet and greet which some underground bands try to export to Europe. Probably we are lucky in Europe for ticket pricing staying fairly normal and bands walking around venues before and after their shows.

Here are a few for me, sole gems from 4 obscure early metalcore/deathcore stinkers: Nineironspitfire - "Charcoal Drawings / Weapon Of Choice" (from Seventh Soul Sacrificed, 1996) Clear - "Falling Into Ashes" (from Deeper Than Blood, 1999) Reprisal - "The Shadow of Mankind" (from Boundless Human Stupidity, 2000) State Craft - "Season's End" (from To Celebrate the Forlorn Seasons, 2000)

Chris's arm keeps disappearing, quite entertaining! Is that the Alice Cooper album with "I Never Cry?" That's a good tune, sort of heartbreaking.

Right Side Of My Mind from Q2K is an amazing Queensryche song.

The last record from the Mahavishnu Orchestra, "Inner Worlds", ca 1976. McLaughlin was clearly done with the classic MO format and looking for a new direction - he'd stripped the band down to a quartet (keys, bass, drums, and himself on Synclavier guitar), had included some sappy vocals and one embarrassing attempt at soul-funk. Only one song had any echoes of the JM of old: "Way of the Pilgrim", in which he played the coda on an old-fashioned analog electric guitar. It's the only song from the album I still play, and even then I'm impatient for all the synth noodling to be done with so he can get to the real guitar lines. There was an oddity from the late 80s called "Giants" - a pickup band, with the likes of Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Neal Schon, others - all playing a peculiar blend of Cuban-influenced slow-dance music, a few tepid vocals - and one outstanding Willie Bobo comp called "Neckbones & Home Fries", where Santana finally let loose with a blistering solo. The one high spot in an otherwise forgettable session.

I love Alice Cooper goes to hell lp, awesome some great tougue in cheek songs rockers & a great Ballard I never cry.

My choices: From Slayer's "Undisputed Attitude:" I don't actually hate this collection of hard core punk covers, but I will admit that it's not great. But the song that closes the disc, "Gemini" is slow and crushing. From "Hot Space" by Queen, the song with David Bowie, "Under Pressure" is a classic. It doesn't even sound like it came from the same album. Scorpions' 1999 album "Eye II Eye" was mostly craptacular, but the song "Mind Like a Tree" has a badass groove that's reminiscent of "China White." The title track from Kiss's "Psycho Circus" album is great. There's a couple of other decent tracks, but the whole thing overall is rubbish. I pretty much detest Megadeth's "Risk" album. It's not even really metal, nor should it have been called a Megadeth album. But the two songs that close the album, "Time: the Beginning" and "Time: the End," are pretty cool. I think they should have been put together as one track, and it would have been even cooler. But then, disappointment and underachieving are the names of the game with "Risk."

About moving on and shiting on metal, Bruce Dickinson did some of that around 1994/1995 - acusing Maiden of being very Spinal Tap and shit. About moving on and not shiting on the past, Nicke Andersson leaving the position of main songwrtiter and drummer from Entombed (he even sang on Clandestine) is a prime example. Lots of people hate his bands post-Entombed (Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric and Lucifer), but he had a vision and did stick to it He left Entombed and the death metal genre that he help to create to do his 70's inspired hard-heavy-power-pop music in different bands, but he kept saying he loved Entombed and death metal. He even did a short-lived death metal band in the 2000 called Death Breath and ocasionaly plays on Entombed AD.

He hired a non metal producer on Skunkworks and you can clearly tell. He was mostly known for grunge. Its not a great album but its not the worst thing ever made.

Funnily enough, it was two songs that Bruce wrote or co wrote- Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter and Holy Smoke- that I would say are Maiden’s most “Spinal Tap” tracks. So its odd criticism to say the least.

@@jimmycampbell78 Well, he didn't refer to Spinal Tap in terms of songwriting, but Maiden's sense of reality in the early 90's. He said that everything was pretty serious and strict to the point of becoming a "bugger". He made it clear that Maiden and Metal wasn't Spinal Tap for the right reasons: "good sense of humour" - but for being out of touch with the moment. Well, by 1994 Bruce was wearing one those spandex tight bermudas -, just like Axl. So, there you go...

Nick & Ryan.... I think you might give Blind Guardians "At the Edge of Time (2010)" another try. I think it balances the symphonic vs metal elements well, I am biased being that its my favorite BG album. 2015's "Beyond the Red Mirror" wades too deep into smothering lushness and ends up being sleep inducing.

Nic, Promised Land is worth a relisten. With tracks like I am I, Disconnected, Bridge and the title song, the album's bleak and beautiful, and still something I reach for.

Nah it sucks. Promised Land, Motley Crue 94, and Stomp 442 are the holy trinity of terrible albums from 1994 with no good songs from 80s metal bands.

Great show chaps. Aww Chris, always agree with you on everything, but you broke my heart with Magic, mate! It's no classic Dio, but Lord of the Last Day, Fever Dreams, Turn To Stone, Losing My Insanity and Feed My Head are great tracks IMO! But there we go. Respect all the same, mate! ;) Also, you guys are spot on about artists who disrespect fans and their old works. Moving on is fine, but as Nick said, there's a way to go about it. Don't shit on the stuff and the people that got you where you are. Great episode again, fellas!

I agree with you. DIO never turned in a shit album. Feed My Head really stands out in my mind from this one.

Ugh, I had that Alice Cooper album. I can still remember the title track but can't recall a single song after that.

Wow, Chris's pantera take. Okay, so I'm not really the biggest fan of this band, but power metal is one of the albums that I like! But that song? I don't know. There's a lot of other good stuff on that album like over and out! Maybe one of my favorite songs from that band. As for me, this is kind of out of the usual wheelhouse but no more so then one of the pics tonight. Oasis, morning glory, off the what's the story morning glory album! Came out around the time I started high school. Bob the album because of the song morning glory, which I still think is a terrific rock tune with real attitude and a good riff and extremely catching, and hey, it doesn't rip off the beatles! The rest of the album though? Damn does it ever suck.

I don't know you all hate Judas Priest's Jugulator. Title track, Abductors, and bullet train are all incredible songs.

Laughing on Judgement Day Thunder. Their debut Back Street Symphony is one of my all time favourites, lots of fun, very tongue in cheek and IMO the last great Hard Rock album. I was really looking forward to the follow up but I found this so serious and plodding. There was no fun in LOJD. It seemed they were taking themselves too seriously. I never played it again except for one song A Better Man. It was acoustic but the only decent track on the album

"Inner Sanctum" might be my all time favorite Celtic Frost song. I can't say the same about the rest of the album ("Babylon Fell" is alright, I guess but it's kinda uninspired).

For what it is worth I was at Metallica in Buffalo last week. My first row upper deck tickets were $72.50. The ticket prices for the best seats in the house are always going to be insane.

I like every album from Sabbath with Ozzy and Technical Ecstasy is one of my favorites, also think Never Say die is better than 13 but is still good.

I always liked 13 and listen to it still often. Technical ecstasy and never say die would make one good album, very average albums. heaven and hell saved black sabbath after never say die.

@@iancocks9408 Technical Ecstasy is a great album and Never Say Die is a good album. Dio kept sabbath on par with Ozzy solo albums but then quit and took his voice and made 2 great solo albums and Sabbath tanked. I saw the Born Again show with Quiet Riot at their peak, and people were leaving during Sabbath. I have a soft spot for that album but all down hill from there. until Ozz-fest brought them back. Sabbath will always be in my top 5 bands, excluding the Martin or Iommi solo eras.

Pretty sure no one played on OM:2, it was Mike Stone and Taint. Maybe Rockenfield. Same with American Soldier. I did like the Hands on that album. Q2K was shit too but the last song on the album Right Side of my Mind was pretty good.

OMG, I thought of one more watching this show again. The irony is that it's Robert Plant's birthday and I thought of the one solo album from the 80s that wasn't good. Shaken-n-Stirred and the one awesome song is Little by Little, which is one of my favorite Plant solo songs. Sixes and Svens is okay but the rest I'm sorry is a mess. And from what I understand, I'm not alone in that opinion.

Oh, I forgot one: Adrenalize {Def Leppard} - Tear it Down (See PJ & Whitesnake)

I had Def Leppard adrenalize up there too but I went with white lightning the tribute to Steve that's the only one I really think is worth a damn on that album LOL

'Night of the Wolf' by Uriah Heep from Equator is a great song

I have a couple of picks: - For the longest time, I never listened to anything Scorpions made after "Love At First Sting", because I heard nothing but bad things about them. Only recently, I decided to go through the grind and listen to everything in preparation for "Rock Believer". "Savage Amusement", "Crazy World", and "Face the Heat" all were kind of meh, and I heard "Pure Instinct" was terrible, but the opening track 'Wild Child' almost got my hopes up. It's surprisingly good, and it's such a catchy song, and while it's not heavy, it's got a good hard rock drive, and it's so fun. Too bad the rest of the album sucks. - One of the first metal bands I ever got into was Sonata Arctica, and I got into them around 2007/2008. I was mostly getting into their early stuff, and from what I heard from their most recent album "Unia" (the single 'Paid in Full'), I didn't really like. Then, come around 2009, when I heard promos for their next album, and when I was hearing 'Flag in the Ground', I got really excited for "The Days of Grays", but when I eventually heard the album, it just sounded so downbeat apart from 'Flag in the Ground'. I've recently come to terms with new-Sonata Arctica, and just accepted that I'm probably not going to like anything after "Reckoning Night", apart from a few songs like 'Flag in the Ground'. - I do like "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell", and while I've always been an Alice Cooper fan and considered him one of my top ten favorite artists, it was actually only within the past eight years that I dove deep into his catalogue. For a while, one of the few albums I owned by Cooper was "Trash", which I remember liking at least a little bit when I first got it, but as I get older the less I like it, and the less it sounds like Alice Cooper to me. I know that some people think his Blackout albums don't sound like him, but I think "Trash" sounds like a Desmond Child Project ft. Alice Cooper and coincidentally the only song I like off of it is, 'Bed of Nails', sounds the most like Alice Cooper to me. It's twisted, has his sense of humor, and it's got a riff with good muscle (partly due to the help of Kane Roberts). The rest of the album I could either do without, or just hate. - I was also diving deep into Accept, and when I got to "Predator", I remember feeling like it lacked energy. So later I listened to it again, and while listening to the opener 'Hard Attack', I thought "hey, maybe this will open up to me". NOPE! The rest of the album brought back that memory of just feeling like it was Accept running out of steam. I can't recall any other song on the album except for 'Primitive' only because it's so terrible and annoying. It definitely sounded like a band about to break up. - Stratovarius' self-titled album is always a really rough listen, and I don't think I dislike it as much as most people do, but the only song I really enjoy %100 is 'United'. It suffers from the same bad production that plagues the rest of the album, but it's got the best chorus on the album, and it's got a tried-and-true formula of the 'Heaven and Hell' bass line driving the song along satisfyingly. - Motörhead is a miraculously consistent band, and while they've had their less-than-spectacular albums like "Iron Fist", "Rock n Roll" and "March or Die", I think their weakest album is easily "Snake Bite Love", with only 'Love For Sale' being a good song (a distant second would be 'Assassin', which is a lesser version of the song 'Sacrifice', which isn't the end of the world). - Nightwish's "Imaginaerum" is mostly bad, but it does contain three good songs, which are 'Storytime', 'I Want My Tears Back' and 'Last Ride of the Day', and one okay song, 'Turn Loose the Mermaids'.

Nightwish's Imaginaerum: I remember the Planet Rock radio station played Storytime a lot back when it came out. I really liked it so was looking forward to the album. Apart from Storytime I really didn't like it. I haven't listened to Nightwish much since.

The one song to pick off of Load is The Outlaw Torn. Amazing song. Probably one of the better album closing tracks out there.

I was like every other teenage Metallica fanatic from the 80's who loved their first 4 albums (and liked the 5th album) and then heard "Load" and thought "What the fuck?" That's when I stopped being a fan of the band. The funny thing is, that's the only album of theirs I would ever listen to now. The old albums were amazing, but I've heard all those songs too many times. However, I think 'Load' was hugely underrated. If it was released by some unknown band, it wouldn't have received any of the negativity. It would be hailed as a 90's classic. It was savaged by old Metallica fans purely because their expectations weren't met. They wanted thrash metal; not this blues-tinged grungy shit. But I listen to it now without any of the baggage - not even thinking that it's Metallica - and many of the songs on there are great. It's just as good as the old stuff. Just different, that's all.

Question for Nick - Do you not like the songs themselves from ANATO or is it the production that you have an issue with? I love the album, but can acknowledge that the versions on "Live" and "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass" are more in keeping with their sound up until that point in time. The version of Punishment Divine from "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass" is so powerful and Hansi really shows all parts of his range excellently!

It was always going to be difficult to follow-up Nightfall, one of the most perfect albums of all time (I'm also a massive Lord of the Rings nerd) .... but I felt the songs were way too busy and overwrought on ANATO, a problem that has plagued BG since, in my humble opinion. Ironically, I love the 14 minute multi-faceted ballad :) .... but that song breathes and takes its time, it builds..... What BG lost was the ability to clutch your heart and not let go "Mirror Mirror" and "When Sorrow Sang" are just these timeless fist-in-the-air stormers and I guess I like that more than the quintuple-tracked orchestral bombast they favor these days.

Generally speaking I agree with all of your points to a degree - especially the lack of stompers on ANATO and the fact that '... Silence' is the highlight. For me, I guess that ANATO still feels different from the following albums despite the increased Queen influence. That's possibly due to them still having Thomen at the time. They remain my favourite band so it's always great to discuss them - cheers mate!

Alice goes to hell is a good album! Title track awesome! , Wake me Gently a beautiful kinda creepy Alice song, I never cry is a classic!

Disagree about Alice Cooper Goes to Hell. Love that album. Wish You Were Here from that album is the closest thing he ever got to real metal.

Disagree about Magica. It's not the best Dio but that album in no way sucks. If anything it's a story and most people dont get it. Rebel meets Rebel is actually a really great party record.. DAC vocals arent the best but the songs are fantastic

I'm w/you on The Who. Eminence Front is a badass song and I'm not a Who fan. I think Styx sucks for the most part so, you'll get no argument from me on them. But Hot Space isn't Queen's worst album. Go further into the 80s and you'll know what I mean.

Put Out The Fire?

Gotta throw some love at Scorpions, because I think "Face The Heat" is better than it's often given credit for. Yes, "Alien Nation" is still the best song on the album, but there are some other great rockers on there, like "No Pain No Gain" and "Unholy Alliance", and some quality ballads as well, such as "Under The Same Sun" and "Woman". Some of the midtempo stuff is fun too, like "Someone To Touch", "Taxman Woman" and "Ship Of Fools". The last few tracks kind of trail off, and honestly the album would have been better if they would have trimmed the fat somewhat, but lots of bands fell victim to that in the 90's when cassettes and CDs allowed for much longer albums. But I actually like "Face The Heat" better than "Crazy World". Also, hearing Nick slag "A Night At The Opera" by Blind Guardian hurts my heart a bit. I love that album. It does get a little overblown in the middle, but the 1st 4 tracks are immense, and of course the closer is quite the epic.

Maiden's "No Prayer For The Dying" has "Tailgunner." Great tune (and maybe the last great one they wrote IMO). The rest of the album stinks.

Alice Cooper - School's Out record, the title track is a classic but the rest of the album is nothing special. I should give it a fresh listen, maybe I will like some of it nowadays? Just always found the rest of the album, kinda lackluster. Good show guys!

Crush from Anthrax Volume 8: The Threat Is Real is good, but the rest of the album has never grown on me after 8 or 9 listens.

Great to see the original four members of the Hudson Valley Squares do a show tonight! As for my picks... I'm mostly scrapping the absolute bottom of the barrel. 1. Illud Divinum Insanus: Blades for Baal (this is an abortion of a Morbid Angel album, and this is the only good song on it.) 2. St. Anger: Frantic (know I'm going to get a lot of flack for posting this one, but when played LIVE, this song isn't that bad.) 3. Nostradomus: Persecution 4. Innocence Is No Excuse: Everybody Up (this is in line with some of Ryan's picks tonight, it's not a terrible album, it just doesn't do anything for me except for "Everybody Up". Plus it was in the Italian horror film Demons so it's extra awesome).

I was trying to think if there was a St. Anger song I liked and Id probably pick Frantic too if I was forced to pick one but its really not that good especially the goofy lyrics and vocals.

@@tylerpatterson4787 I pre-ordered St Anger hoping it would be good (I never learn). My copy came with a DVD of the band playing the album live in the studio for a select group of fans. That DVD sounds better than the album! Some of the songs don't sound too bad and the snare drum sound is ok.

Just to slow for him I guess but I would say Master of the Moon is easily his worst. then KTD

*brain dead* in *jugulator* hits too, 'though *cathedral spires* might be the better choice because of tim ripper ownes' great vocal performance on the one hand and the epic intro on the other... I recommend *Creatures Watching over the Dead by Charred Walls of the Damned* as one of the metal albums that will be discovered years later on by metalfans...

I agree with Pete - I have every AC album and Goes To Hell is at the near bottom of my list. The title track is the only top-notch song. Others for me would be: Black Sabbath/Tony Iommi - Seventh Star. I love "In For The Kill" but hate the rest, which pains me to say because Iommi and Hughes are masters. Motorhead - Iron Fist. Again, I have everything they've ever put out but aside from the title track there are no memorable, classic songs. Judas Priest - Nostradamus. A bit of a cheat and easy to pick on, but I like one song off each CD, "Prophecy" and the title track. The rest is forgettable.

I think I want my $7 back for the time it cost me to earn the money, get myself to the store by bus, buy Skyscraper cassette from David Lee Roth. Putting the tape in and listening for the first time was total garbage. Retro-listening maybe I was too harsh but...I made $4/hr at the time lol. Bless you all

I haven't really listened to Alice Cooper for a long time, although I did watch a documentary on him, which was a lot less than glamorous. But, in a previous episode, 'Love it to death' was ranked as one of his best albums, alongside 'Billion Dollar Babies,' whereas the album I remember is 'Killer.' And here comes 'Alice Cooper Goes to He'll as a supposedly crap album. Over to KZread. 'Goes to Hell' gets far more listens from Alice Cooper fans generally (and presumably) than 'Billion Dollar Babies,' and rave reviews for the album, as in, "This is my favorite Alice Cooper album," and the music is so much more exploratory and interesting. Classic Alice Cooper is all block chords and attitude, whereas 'Goes to Hell' is playful and explores more interesting themes. But, yes, it is definitely not a heavy metal album, while definitely being an intelligent album. This is why I love SoT: each episode forces you to explore stuff. I might well buy 'Goes to Help' because it has a musical sensibility lacking in Alice's more classic wack-wack-wack tracks. And all because Pete doesn't like it. But that's great: a reaction provokes a counter-reaction, and the whole provokes a greater commitment to magical music.

I disagree ,i love the first two albums with Joe Perry Project. They are just as good as Rocks and Toys in the attic.

It’s not just Metallica. Maiden tickets for Denver Ball arena next month are $366 before fees on Ticketmaster for top row in the very back. I only paid $200 for pit passes for big 4 Indio in 2011 Could’ve thrown a donut and hit Hanneman during his final live appearance.

Very cool episode. Speaking of 'shitting on' Metallica, I discovered them in 1983, when I saw and bought Kill 'Em All at Rock en Stock in Montreal. After Master of Puppet (which I felt was a copy of Ride of the Lightning), Metallica was already off my radar (i.e., too commercial for me). Their first album remains the top album from theirs followed by their sophomore release.

@@Canuck1000 you assume wrong. Their first release is their only real all thrash classic. But their next 3 releases after that one, are all classics. Especially MOP which is clearly their best, and the majority of their true, long time fans will agree with me.

@@heathertiller3644 Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice for All may be classics for many, but Kill 'em All tops all three. There is nothing crazy about this. Many of my friends feel the same way. This is the only album I listen to, with RtheL being next (on rare occasions).

I realise that the metal guys don’t like it because it puts them out of their comfort zone but Love Is For Suckers is fantastic and underrated glam metal album, I don’t care what people say, I’ll always defend it.

My comfort zone includes Emmylou Harris, Roots Manuva, Mozart, and Tears For Fears, so I'm not sure that I've ever actually been outside of it.

Reb beach and kip winger were studio musicians for that album. You can hear kips background vocals on hot love during the chorus. Reb beach did the lead guitar work

The title track from "Inside the Electric Circus". Yeah, the two covers are good, but they don't count. And they needed two of 'em! To make up for how crappy that album is.

@@adamsmashups4839 I went back and listened to this album not too long ago, for the first time since '87, and it wasn't nearly as terrible as I remember. The lyrics were still awful, but the album was pretty good. I did only listen to it once though, and my memory from nearly 40yrs. ago is a lil rusty on the individual songs

Chris, I'll take that Dio album from you. There's several tunes on there I like.

Totally agree with you guys on the first British Lion album, absolute dreck!! They , however, have put out an album in 2020, called The Burning, which is actually a damn good hard rock gem, check it out!!

Horror Show is great! Damien is the best song on that album to me. Colony is awesome all the way through. I used to hate Clayman but now I like it. It's like Colony pt 2. All the later albums suck.

I agree with Nick about Roll the Bones. Bravado is a great song, but the rest of the album is boring. Have no problems with 80s Rush but was never a fan of their 90s. Only a couple of good tracks here and there, Bravado probably being the best of the bunch.
