70, 71, 72, can’t argue, but mine is 1973. Dark Side of the Moon, Houses of the Holy, Brain Salad Surgery, Aladdin Sane, Queen, runners up; Innervisions, Quadrophenia, Mott, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Abandoned Luncheonette, Selling England By The Pound, Spectrum, Goats Head Soup, New York Dolls, Raw Power-Stooges, There Goes Rhymin’ Simon, Call Me-Al Green, Eat It, Birds of Fire and even A Passion Play. An unbelievable year for great music.

1983: 1. Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind 2. Metallica - Kill 'em All 3. Mercyful Fate - Melissa 4. Dio - Holy Dive 5. Black Sabbath - Born Again Favorite Maiden, MF/King Diamond and Dio records, the Metallica debut changed the musical landscape forever and while 'Born Again' isn't my favorite Sabbath, it's up there and definitely the most unique album they've done!!!

I like most of your shows but this is on a whole different level. Love the stories and the personalities. However I have so many years jumbled in my head and when I make a list of albums, I get all the years from 1970 to ‘76. So I googled best 100 rock albums for each year. 1970 got votes for sheer number of great albums. But 1971 had so many iconic, unforgettable albums. So Pete and Steve were both right!

Hair of the Dog by Nazareth, Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin, Sabotage by Black Sabbath, Katy Lied by Steely Dan, Nothin' Fancy by Lynyrd Skynyrd, runners up: Blow by Blow by Jeff Beck, the Koln Concert by Keith Jarrett (picked up the CD randomly on whim), Ted Nugent self-titled, Blues of Allah by the Grateful Dead, Horses by Patti Smith, Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen, Beautiful Loser by Bob Seger, Night at the Opera by Queen, Dreamboat Annie by Heart, One Size Fits All by Frank Zappa, Welcome to My Nightmare by Alice Cooper, Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson, Fly by Night by Rush, Rocky Horror soundtrack, Pieces of the Sky by Emmylou Harris, Scheherazade by Renaissance, Bongo Fury by Zappa and Captain Beefheart, King Arthur by Rick Wakeman, Outlaws self-titled, Go Girl Crazy by the Dictators, The Tubes self titled, Fandango by ZZ Top, Fish Out of Water by Chris Squire, Fool for the City by Foghat, Song for America by Kansas, and to top it off, my very first Sabbath album was the compilation We Sold Our Soul for Rock and Roll.

Great, great topic, but also very excruciating. We have to pick one year, and leave out so many other awesome years of releases? And, on top of that, we can only pick five albums from the year of our choosing, and leave off the tons of other amazing releases from said year? This hurts. I have to go with 1974. It's very personal; too many top favorites from my personal top favorite artists. 1a. *Queen* - Queen II (3 faves: Fave album from fave band, and fave album of all-time.) 1b. *Queen* - Sheer Heart Attack (My second fave album by my fave band. Both Queen albums listed were the first albums I got from them. This one I loved immediately. The other took years for me to swallow.) 2. *Magma* - Kohntarkosz (My second fave band. Intense, hypnotic, sepulchral stuff. This band is far from being for everyone, but they're super-special.) 3. *King Crimson* - Red (A top 10 band for me, and this searing, devastating album is my second fave from this band.) 4. *Todd Rundgren* - Todd (Another top 10 artist. My second fave Rundgren album, solo anyway. Again, very personal.) 5. *Yes* - Relayer (My fave Yes album, or in a tie with Close To The Edge.) Steve cheated, so I did, too. I could list tons more, but I'll stop. Painful. Btw, that Fave Album series was the bomb diggity ;-)

1985 was a year of two halves for me. I had been going out with this great girl for some time but in June we broke up. The music kind of reflected that year and that relationship. 1 Misplaced Childhood. This album helped me through that break up. There was a lot of similarities in this album and this girl. You could say she was my Kayleigh. 2 Brothers I Arms. Went to see Dire Straits and yes, I have mentioned this before, it was the gig I took her to. Two days after we broke up. Why Worry and So Far Away had a lot of meaning 3 On A Storytellers Night. The best album Magnum ever did in my opinion 4 7800F Okay Bon Jovi dont get mentioned much but just after we split, I went to Donington MOR and they were on. I had never listened to them before, didn't know anything about them and they opened the show with Japanese girl singing. I thought WTF is this? But they just jumped onto the stage, crashing out the opening chords of Tokyo Road and my jaw dropped. they did an amazing set. 5 No Jacket Required. Just a great album Just to show how my taste had changed I also have to pick 1980. I had started college and the NWOBHM was in full swing, although I was rather old school 1 Back In Black. I was on holiday in Cornwall and sat in a bar with some mates listening to Tommy Vance play this in full on the eve it was released. We were all blown away. 2 Live Fleetwood Mac. Just for the best version of Rhiannon and the haunting I'm So Afraid. 3 Live In The Heart Of The City 4 Heaven & Hell 5 Iron Maiden

I'm going to say 1987 because when I look at my media player it's the year that has the most hours of CDs ripped from. I have 25.1 hours of music for 1987. I currently don't have all my CDs ripped though, but most of them. The runner up is 1992 with 24.4 hours of music, followed by 1994 with 22.8 hours(back in 1994 things were different then before, Slayer was what I adored), then 1986 with 22.7 hours of music.

with you pete,an extremely difficult task to pick one year from the greatest decade ever for music, but it has to be '71 for me. saw Sabbath at leicester de montford hall (midlands of England) and what a blast that was. seen them multiple times since and theres really no one else like them. '70 was pretty damn good too,as was '73. far too difficult. #1 album though from that year for me is Who's Next from the mighty Who.such energy and every track a banger.

1980 for NWOBHM, 1978 for Van Halen 1, but THE year for me is 1976: the pinacle of non stop amazing classic releases. Rainbow Rising, Aerosmith ( rocks), Rush (2112), Thin Lizzy (Jailbreak and my favourite Johnny the Fox), Deep Purple (made in Europe), Angel (helluvaband), Boston debut, Kansas (leftoverture), KISS (destroyer), Moxy II, Priest ( sad wings of destiny) , BOC ( agents of fortune), Sabbath ( technical ecstasy), Scorpions ( virgin killer), UFO (no heavy pettin’), Queen ( a day at the races ), Bad Co ( running with the pack), Sweet ( give us a wink), Yesterday & Today debut, two first AC/DC albums, Blackfoot ( flying high), Mahogany Rush IV, Triumph début, ZZ Top (tejas), Starz debut

Very cool show Pete. Very interesting all the comments of each election, whether of the year or of each album. I agree with Chris, 1981 and the albums he mentions, it is one of the years where more talent appeared with Maiden (Killers), Rush (Movin pictures), Ozzy (Diary of a Madman), Sabbath ( Mob Rules): tremendous albums. All are awesome !!!!!!

Some excellent years for rock music: 1967 for psychedelic rock (doors, beatles, hendrix...), 1972 for prog rock (tull, yes, genesis...), 1974 for hard rock band first releases (kiss, rush, acdc, judas priest...), 1982 for classic metal (beast, screaming, creatures...), 1986 for thrash metal (peace sells, reign in blood, puppets, pleasure to kill...). But every year has its share of brilliant releases.

I think I will just pick a great 5-year straight run of excellent metal/hard rock releases: 1983: Holy Diver, Piece of Mind 1984: Ride the Lightning, Last In Line 1985: Live After Death, Killing Is My Business... 1986: Peace Sells, Master of Puppets, Somewhere in Time 1987: Whitesnake 87, Randy Rhoads/Ozzy Tribute But I could honestly probably pick another 5 year run of hard rock and classic metal if I went further back in time. Yet another good show. Thanks!

The first year to come to my mind is 1983 DIO Holy diver OZZY Bark at the moon Iron Maiden Piece of mind Def Leppard Pyromania Accept Balls to the wall Black Sabbath Born again Saxon Power and the glory Europe Europe These were the records I grew up with at 14 discovering music in a different way. 1984 was also a great year for me but '83 is special.

Again you take the prize, Pete! Master of Reality is absolutely one of the top 2-3 best metal albums ever! You wouldn’t have gone wrong with The Yes Album as it’s still one of my favorite prog albums. And this time I actually heard the majority of Nick’s picks but it was Ryan who confounded me with stuff I never heard of.
