The HOME KILL Guys of New Zealand

Last Meal - 2:47
Home Kill - 3:53
An eye-opening experience to complete the picture as to why the beef I've been consuming in New Zealand has been so bloody FANTASTIC.
Grazing methods on acres of land as opposed to grain feeding lots has plenty to do with it, as well as the home kill method vs the stressful experience of slaughterhouses. Much respect to the home kill guys for allowing a sheltered meat-eater such as myself stand by and watch them kill and take apart that steer...
THANKS for watching guys!

I always say that our cows that we raise for meat have the most relaxed and stress free life of cows anywhere. They only ever have one bad day and even that only lasts for a fraction of a second. You are right about the taste of the meat. Until you have eaten homekilled meat you just don;t know what you are missing.

Modern-day folks get way too dramatic about this killing for meat thing. This is something our ancestors did w/o much thought about the romanticism. It was simple back then. If you kill, you eat and get big and strong. If you didn't, life would be tough. Modern sentiments have a lot to do with enjoying the comforts of the modern world. In 50 years, we may be crying over killing a head of lettuce or ripping carrots out of the ground.

That's quite the strawman. Most vegans have absolutely no issue with killing animals for survival. Back then it was absolutely necessary for people to eat meat. Nowadays in the developed world, with all of our technological and agricultural advancements, it's becoming less and less of a necessity to kill animals for meat.

What breed are these cattle? This is the most humane handling of cattle. We butchered ours this way. No stress on the animal. Great job!

Not sure of the cattle breed but they are very common as I've seen them all over NZ. Definitely the most humane way!

They are possibly Hereford but more likely to be a Hereford cross. And I am going to assume they are unwanted bull calves from a dairy herd so are most probably a Hereford crossed with a Fresian. Our ones are called White Faces, for obvious reasons.

When I get mine killed the animal is removed from the herd and it is harvested out of sight of the others.

No. As you noticed they just stand there. I've been around them my whole life, and seen many many get butchered. Cows aren't really capable of such emotion or complex thought in relation to these things. The smell of blood often sets off a bit of noise especially among bulls, but it's not like the human- type emotions like people commonly attribute to such things. Definitely they can react & can think, but don't feel sorry for them as if it was a traumatic experience for them to witness something like that.

You have to kill them before you eat them. It would be cruel to start eating them first.

Please name one business or one industry that is not focused on making a profit? Profit is not a dirty word?? I don't understand how the words Business and Profit have become such vile and instantly hated words? And if you want people to instantly agree with you, just call it Big... as in Big Business and Big Profits. I would love to sit in on the meeting with your bank when you try to get a loan to start up your perfect business where you plan on making just enough money to breaking even.

Alhamdulillah, we in Islam are not taught to kill cows/goats for consumption in the same way as you, we have a way that is far more painful for cows/goats and healthy for humans who consume them
