I was going to buy one of them and mullet it, add an x2 shock to turn it into 160mm rear travel and keep bottom bracket height the same. Then put a Fox 36 up front. By the time all the changes I would have done, I just saved some money and got a levo comp alloy. Its a beautiful bike though.

I have a levo with 170mm in front on 27.5 with 2.8 (with cushcore+) and in high. It's really good but I think the 29 or mullet would be better. After owning it for a year or more though, I'm definitely getting a rise for trail centers where a light bike is much more enjoyable to ride. Throwing around the weight into a bunch of corners and jumps is fun but you have to man handle it when you need to be snappy. I'll probably do the 150mm Fox 36 on 29's and keep it as light as possible for those kinds of rides and have my levo more beefed up and ready to tackle bigger climbs, with chunk, drops, etc.

Too bad they don't give you the option of adjustability to custom tune the motor to get the full 85nm it's capable of. It does have a larger battery so let the user decide.

That would be sweet! I imagine they designed it as such so it wouldn't step on the toes of the more powerful Wild ebike.

Loved the video, Kyle! I know I am late to the party but does anyone know what the default power settings are on the Orbea Rise? I toodled around a parking lot on one and was seriously underwhelmed at the lack of power. I know you can customize the settings but was not allowed to on the one I tried. Do you only get the real feel for the power when you are actually climbing? Everyone is raving about this bike and my first exposure was meh.

I recently got into mtb and I gotta say, it's a real shame that an "affordable" ebike is gonna make you pony up over 5 grand. Although, it seems like if you have a good quality bike, and keep up on maintance, as long as you aren't doing anything insane, the bike should last you more than just a couple years.

Sweet you're getting into riding! With emtb's the price tag can definitely induce a bit of sticker shock but it is important to know what you're getting for the money. Even if the motor is scaled back in power the thing is more powerful than some gas scooters on the road, scooters with no off road capabilities: no suspension, tiny wheels, no good tires and nowhere near as powerful brakes... It also has a battery that probably retails for 800+ dollars alone. This is a pretty sophisticated machine and the value for money is pretty impressive in my book.... I still won't spend that much on one, but it's definitely an enticing value proposition compared to alot of other ebikes out there haha!

@@casestudymtb you make very valid points. The batteries are absurdly expensive, I'm currently building one from scratch for an impending ebike conversion, and the amount of thought that goes into professional, commercial batteries is astounding. The price per kwh ratio might be more appealing if you build the pack yourself, but there is no way that I could build a battery as dense, safe, and shock resistant as the ones in these emtbs. Cheers

Hah, I have the same Fizik saddle on my Superrior XP. Can you recommend a good replacement?

  • @CobraKyle

I like the Ergon SM Pro saddle. It's expensive, but I just swap it between bikes if I sell one...one time investment for a lifetime of comfort. Tough to say if you'll like it as saddles are very personal to each individual, but anything beats the Fizik.

  • @LastAphelion

Mad why? I'm excited about the idea as I really wish we had more options in ebikes designed to work and ride just as well without assist but like all things best to wait to see how it rides and works in practice

@@LastAphelion exactly, I would say the transition, at least in theory is more "the holy grail of ebikes" than the rise... in theory anyway. We'll just have to wait and see

I like the idea of the Relay. My concern is it's gonna be too expensive. I'm still gonna hold off on buying an ebike for another 5 years or so. I think they will only get better and cheaper as more and more people are buying them.
