The History of Vivienne Westwood
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Vivienne Westwood may have one of the craziest stories in all of fashion. How is it possible that a former elementary school teacher became the Queen of Punk? Well that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at in this video - starting back in her days running a boutique with Malcolm Mclaren, all the way to present day. You might even be surprised to learn that she’s left her mark on several pop culture fixtures like the game Final Fantasy, and that she played a major role in Pharrell Williams’ viral Grammy appearance back in 2014. This is the history of Vivienne Westwood - enjoy!

I love Vivienne purely because she’s a rebellious punkish designer in the high fashion space since it seems to be mostly made up of rather “proper” acting people. I can’t imagine many designers other than her in a mosh pit.

She was able to transcend fashion into music and culture and that what truly makes a good brand
"this makes me wonder about all of the great artists that we'll never know about because they didn't make the jump" - this absolutely gutted me. as i sit here trying to distract myself from my soul crushing job and day dreaming about making that jump into the world of design. - R.

Hands down one of the most important designers of the last century. I love her work. What a mind!
As a dressmaker/ designer myself, VW is truly brilliant at cut and concept. She’s far more than just a rock/ punk niche boutiquer, the work is truly original. Clothes are hard, they’re kinetic sculptures that have to fit a body. It’s a rare talent that can cut and she can!
@samaraisnt
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the idea that her hub would insult her by saying she's "just a seamstress" shows how little he knows...that's literally why her cuts are great, cause she actually knows how to make the clothes!

Well done. For some reason, people often try to write Viv off as just some old kooky lady. But she has always been and remains phenomenal. We must always respect our elders who have paved the way for us.

Thanks for this, as an old punk I cannot get enough of Vivienne Westwood. 💕 RIP
after binging your videos since November I did see the common theme of "what if they didnt....?" These videos arent just about clothing and design for me. Theyreally are inspirational. It made me consider my personal approach to life in general. ❤️. I'm glad you are doing what you are doing. Another wonderful video.
I can really see Vivienne's style in NANA now that i actually see what her designs looks like
i already loved vivienne westwood's work so so much, but now knowing her backstory makes me love her all the more!! she's so inspiring, and im so glad the world is able to see her artistry because she was always true to herself :D
I literally fell in LOVE with your subtle way of telling us those powerful stories… Within two days I devoured all of your content. I would be so glad to learn from you about Azzedine Alaïa as he was so discrete. Much love and support ❤️
I came to watch this after Viviennes passing I always loved her and wore her clothing in high-school I might not be as successful as her but am making the jump and start designing she's truly a inspiring woman
Give us Mugler! So interested to see how you would tell the tale
This is my first Treaducation video. What a well done, beautiful, in-depth presentation of a true fashion icon. Vivienne Westwood walked that fine (curvy) line between security and passion . Fortunately for us all, her steps brought attention to both styles and social issues. This video tells an incredible story and does it amazingly well.
A lot of actual punks dislike Vivienne Westwood because she didn’t create an inclusive version of punk. However be that as it may, many of the silhouettes that exist in punk, and the very few fashion factions that exist in the subculture are attributed to her. Her contribution is undeniable. Despite modern day punks in my scene hating her because high fashion is part of the Elite and bourgeoisie culture. Which at it’s core is everything punk is against.

I just got a Vivienne Westwood necklace! Finally made some in 925 silver so it doesn’t tarnish! Well worth it
This is so well done because I just couldn't seem to find a proper timeline of her works, how she started out and whatnot. I just knew she was influential and cares about the environment
This entire video has been wonderful to watch and very educational, but when you mentioned around 25:55 that she designed the wedding dress in FF15 my jaw dropped. I loved it without knowing who made it.😍 Plus some of my friends wear punk outfits that were clearly influenced by her work. I'm going to share this video with them so they can appreciate and love her, too!
Love this channel. I know nothing about fashion and design but I enjoy learning about creatives in a completely different industry than me.
I did not know about the Keith Haring connection- two of my favourite artsits/designers! Amazing content, looking forward to what you make next.
Soooo good. I love this channel but this was one of the best so far. And I’ve already seen the Westwood doc on Amazon. While that featured her voice and had a certain intimacy, yours filled in some holes and was invigorating in ways i needed. She is one of my heroes. I remember the buffalo hat because i was kid when McClaren’s ‘Buffalo Girls’ vid came out. Yeah this installment was gold. I loved the Telfar, Virgil Abloh, HBA, Blood Osiris and Rick Owens ones as well. THANK YOU.🙏🏽✊🏽👍🏽
WOW! I loved every second of this video so much!! Thank you so much for making this
Video was great-I’m a big fashion nerd too 🤓 maybe (and I know it’s a lot of work) you could add more pictures of pieces from her career and collections next time. I know how difficult it is to go through the editing process and putting less pictures means less time and you get more videos put out I totally get it. But as a viewer there’s only so much that you can listen to without something moving in front of you and I think the pictures of her work speak more to the art itself than anyone’s description could of course you did an excellent job and your description of everything we’re just be the icing on the cake on top of the pictures.
