The History of the Mazda 787B - Japan's First Le Mans Winner
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
During the late eighties and early nineties, Japanese manufacturers had great success in motorsport. They had great success in Formula 1, rallying and other forms of racing, but one event had eluded them.
This was the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but in 1991 Mazda’s 787B crossed the line in first place, making it the first Japanese car and only rotary powered car to win the event.
Despite all odds the 787B came out on top. Its only problems during the race were a blown headlamp bulb and a precautionary wheel bearing change. In fact, the rotary engine inside the car was in such good condition Mazda claimed that it could do another 24-hour race without any maintenance.
The Mazda 787B is an icon of the motoring world. It was David battling Goliath and will forever be remembered for its incredible win at Le Mans and its monstrous sound that can’t be mistaken for another car.
Along with creating this video, we have also written an article on the complete history of the Mazda 787B as well - garagedreams.net/history/the-...

Nascar is boring to watch at home and it doesn't loot that difficult to do but it takes a lot of skill to go that fast.

It’s the best thing when KZread recommends me a great video, just subscribed! Would love to see a video explaining the unicorn from BMW, the E46 M3 GTR, the car that ran a controversial season at ALMS in 2001 because of its high-revving V8 engine under its hood, how it won the 24 Hrs of Nurburgring back to back in 2004 and 2005, and how that car influenced BMW to put a V8 in the E9X M3.. I love the videos that are out there now but they mostly talk in relation to the hero car from Need for Speed Most Wanted, I feel like that topic has been talked about a lot but not enough is talked about the actual race car that competed, or the mysterious homologation examples that some say were never even built! BMW only made three production-ready examples, making them to this day the most exclusive cars ever pushed out of the factory! That car deserves more recognition, it’s a legend!
This was a very well produced documentary about Mazda's road to success at Le Mans. The video was packed with info, well illustrated, and the music-bed was kept in the background; as many other videos I've seen on KZread had the producers doing a poor job of audio mixing, with making the music-bed too loud.

Really good video guys .. great content well edited and delivered professionally
One aspect I found of particular interest was the hard driving the 787B did to win the Le Mans race, where it compelled the front-runners to slow down with conserving fuel. For the rotary powered 787B to be more fuel-efficient than the conventional internal combustion engines flies in the face of the reputation Mazda had with its rotary-powered passenger vehicles; where equivalent sized Japanese vehicles in the 1980s were getting 40 percent better fuel mileage than the rotary-powered Mazda vehicles.

The RX-2 and RX-3 were revelations in the early 1970s, they were rocket ships. But the engine controls and emission controls of the day made their gas mileage sucky, just in time for OPEC to turn off the tap.
