Just discovered these videos, really enjoyed watching! Thanks for telling us the story of the iconic G ❤👏🏼
Probably the best and accurate and complete history of the G made on KZread. From new enthusiasts and without BS. Looking forwards to the next.

They forget by 80s like 82-83 the whole vehicle was sold to Bajaj tempo a Daimler subsidiary in india. And whole manufacturing and assembly done in india in 80s. Now the same company renamed to force motors sells the very same car with heavily modified om616 engine bs6.2 or euro 6 + compliant state producing 140 ps and obviously with a 1.5ton air conditioner 5 doors and front and rear diff locks.
Great job guys! This history story about the G is a great idea. Looking forward to the rest of the series. 👍
Those bloopers 😊 keeping it real. Loved all the old footage you found!
This is the most stylish modern SUV with timelss design. Dont see them often on the US roads. Thank you for posting guys!
Wonderful video. I really enjoyed the backround knowledge to the G Wagon!
The best vehicle presentation I have ever watched !! Most enjoyable. Go well and enjoy the G-Wagon. PS PS PS !!! I am not able to find episodes 3 and 4 of this series on YT - any solution ?
he first generation G-Wagon was named W460 because it was the 460th internal project number assigned by Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz uses a system of internal project numbers to track its vehicles during development. The project number is typically assigned when the vehicle is first proposed, and it is used to track the vehicle's progress through the development process. The W460 project was started in the early 1970s, and the first production vehicles were built in 1979. The W460 was a joint project between Mercedes-Benz and Austrian engineering firm Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Steyr-Daimler-Puch had a lot of experience building off-road vehicles, and they were responsible for the design and development of the W460's chassis and drivetrain.
12:06 actually the Bundeswehr had trials for a new vehicle in the late 70s. They agreed to purchase a new vehicle the VW Iltis, that replaced the DKW Munga. When the VW Iltis was dismissed the time of the G Wagon in the Bundeswehr began.....

Thank you for adding this. When we eventually to a 2.0 version we‘ll keep this in mind. Or maybe a separate video series on the vehicles of the Bundeswehr!?
Wow nice video, always to hear the history of my favorite vehicle!
Friends- One clarification. The Shah of Iran had purchased 4x4s from USSR but they would tend to overheat. He approached Daimler as he wanted a military 4X4 and not so much as a personal vehicle to go hunting. The Shah did use his Range Rovers for hunting trips and skiing at his chalet in Switzerland. Thanks.

He seems like a Range Rover kind of guy so that would make sense. We read of other motives as well though. Thanks for throwing in your 2Cents. We will keep that in mind for when we shoot a 2.0 version.
Awesome job and thanks for the hard work in bringing the story together. I'll own one like Thor one day. Watching you guys keeps me motivated

Thanks Bas! Yes this was a lot of work to put together, but it was fun too. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video! Gunther Holtorf has published a photographic account of Otto’s journey in his book, Otto. It’s in German but not hard to follow. I’m not Herr Holtorf’s publicist but it is a great book and it helped me through lockdown! There are also a few videos of Otto on KZread.

¡Soon-to-be RETIRED🥸! And I am actually looking to get an ALTIMETER for my G, to gauge elevation while meandering the mountains ⛰ of DR🇩🇴 Pico Duarte is the highest peak on the island and in all the Caribbean (3.098m/ 10,164’ above sea level). And we are about 39.5km/24.5miles from the peak, on the fringes of the mountain. All I can say is bring some good down quilts and sleeping bags…‘cause it’s as cold as a witches tits up there 😳😱🥶!!!
Great video! Lifelong G fan and I learnt some stuff! Thanks.

As this is somewhat dear to my heart i have to "correct" something: the city of Steyr had nothing to do with the G or the Manufacturing of it. The city of Steyr is the namesake of one of the oldest (still active) Weapons manufacturer in europe, and this company at some point merged with Puch (in Graz) and Austro Daimler to form "Steyr-Daimler-Puch". Austro Daimler and Puch were the main vehicle specialists. (A somewhat famous guy called Ferdinand Porsche worked for Austro Daimler before WW1 ;-) ) The Offroad vehicle specialty part was in Graz. Both the Haflinger and the Pinzgauer were develloped and built by in Graz. And the testtrack on the Schöckl was already in use for those vehicles. It wasn't extra built for the G. The testament (and goal) to how good the G was offroad, was that it could master this track. As no "car" could go there. (little sidenote for the newest model: it was tested there too. The goal was that after 2000km on this track nothing must fail or be loose in any kind, or must there be any ratteling inside the cabin. They weren't going slow either. So this is quite the test to achieve!)
My 2002 starts everytime. (Knocks on wood)
A Gelandewagen with wheels over 18 inches are...🤔😏 Cheers from me in Norway with my ultra low mileage 2006 G55 AMG with 305/60/18 wheels😃

What happened to this channel? Is it completely gone? I hope that you are all okay.
He was looking for military vehicles not just for hunting only so you better don’t saying anything bad about our worst of bad dictator 😂😂😂
