My Dad and I just got back from a 5 day trip up to baboon lakes! It was amazing, discovered the Sabrina basin area from your vids after 15 years of backpacking. Baboon lakes was one of the best, we had the whole lake to ourselves. Tons of brook trout taking our dry flies and pheasant tails. Can’t wait to come back for George Lake or Dingleberry

Right on. I was thinking about Baboon Lakes this year myself. I really like the action off of the near by Bishop Pass Trailhead next to South Lake. Sounds like you had a great time up there. The only thing better than a couple of fish in the net is a lot of fish in the net!

So you went in knowing it was worth it! That's more than I knew when I started out on this hike! Man, I got to say that I was battling that trail. If the sun was out and it was hot, it might have been game over!

Thanks. I try to line up a hiking video with each backcountry fishing video. That way viewers can see what the fishing is like and then check to see if they are into the hike. I have dozens across those 2 playlists and if viewers are new to fishing they can find out how to catch fish up at the lakes from videos on my fishing tips playlist. There is still a lot of hiking and fishing to do so stay tuned!

I typically stick with jigs in alpine lakes. Small 1/32 or 1/16 OZ. I have a clips with a few options and basic techniques on my fishing tips playlist.

Wait, what? Your grandma and your uncle were gone, and you were in 5th grade and you were by yourself? And nobody had a way to reach them in an emergency? One of my other Uncle was with us but he was napping it out in one of the back rooms. It was a flying monkey marching chant!

My Alltrails mapping says the elevation gain is 1700 feet on that hike. Looks beautiful.

That sounds and felt about right. That was a brutal uphill grind. My advice, if you go do it when it's cold in the Fall or before the sun is on the trail.

When did you go there? I wanna know snow condition in High Sierra cause I'm gonna do JMT thru hike with fishing pole in a few weeks (Aug 20th to around Sep 10th) I might gonna try for golden trout in cottonwood lakes, inspired by your past videos!!

I just was there Monday. I'm eager to hit some goldens too but I might stick lower than Cottonwood Lakes until at least September. I was crossing big snow patches on the trail in the Hoover Wilderness the next day fishing for my Patreon.

I've never seen mini creeks on the hiking trail b4. One good thing on that hike.....what goes up must come down. Much easier!

My now bad knees (even when they were healthy) have always hurt more on any sizable descent.

The hike down was not easy on the knees at all! I find going up can be tougher on the breathing and fatigue factor but easier on the leg joints.

I am down for a lot of rain and snow this Winter as well but I'd like a little less. I'm still trudging through snow in the mountains in August! I could also do without having over two week stretches of snow in the mountains without a single break. It's a bit much! I'd rather we increase water storage capacity so we can capture more of it.

I hope your packing heat, between cougars, bears, Sasquatch, and occasional psychopath…🤷🏼‍♂️ be safe.

@@jamesfyffe2610 yes, i have done it couple times (open carry) and let me tell you the weird look i got from folks up there. I wasnt even alone i was with my gf.. Tree huggers shouldn’t be allowed on those trails

If I'm packing heat it's for the most dangerous animal. Humans! Especially in remote National National forest and BLM areas with road access. Especially during growing season. I can deal with black bears and cougars. Grizzlies are another story but I haven't dealt with that yet. I have bear encounter videos on my wildlife encounter playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested.
