The riflemen dont scrap the road their feet land in unison their arms swing in unison but the thing that has me in awe is I believe hes called the drum major his moves are precise and is flawless. He differently commands respect not that to look at his scowl wouldn't put the wrath of god into ones soul if you were to be out on cadence. I certainly wouldn't want to to on the receiving end. I would admire any fool that tells them they are English and survives! English foot soldiers are not worthy of licking the boots of a Highland Pipe Band. While the English were cowering in the trenches of WW1. LONE pipers of the SCOTTISH Regiments stood above the trenches and rallied THE SCOTS and they fought till death or glory. Not 1 SCOTSMAN was ever shot for desertion of duty. Where as many Englishmen were.

Unfortunately YES! 57,470 brave men were sacrificed on 1st July 1916, at the Battle of the Somme. The man in charge was Field Marshal Douglas Haig, who's name is the head of the poppy appeal, and if that is not ironic I don't know what is. The man sent more people to death for nothing. The majority were Scots and Ulstermen that died or were wounded on that day.

All my Family is from Ballater and I spent most of my childhood there. My Grandfather died on the Pulloch hill just the other side of the Brig in 1927, as a result of wounds on the Somme. Note the salute to the War Memorial. Many of the lads went to school with my Mum and died in N. Africa. Ballater is the absolute centre of the earth.
