The High 5 Habit: Take Control of Your Life with One Simple Habit w/ Mel Robbins

Some people you meet, you instantly CONNECT with them.
MEL ROBBINS is one of those people for me.
Ask anybody who knows me, and they will tell you that she is simply one of my favorite human beings I’ve ever met.
When you listen to this week’s episode, you’ll see why one of Mel’s superpowers is to connect with people wherever she goes.
In a smart, earthy, funny, and candid talk, Mel is a LIVE WIRE who’s going to win you over from the start.
A former criminal defense attorney, she is now one of the most sought-after motivational speakers in America. You may know her from her appearances on CNN as a legal analyst, or as the host Cox Media Group's The Mel Robbins Show, A&E's Monster In-Laws, and Fox's Someone's Gotta Go.
You may think that something as simple as giving a HIGH FIVE doesn’t amount to much, but as Mel explains, one HIGH FIVE can make all the difference in the world.
Think about it.
You have a lifetime of positive programming from giving others high fives. It’s impossible to say something negative a then give someone a high five. The two actions are INCONGRUENT.
You’ve never given it any thought, have you?
But Mel has.
She’s figured it out and applied the NEUROSCIENCE to back it up.
Like many great actions, it’s the simple ones like HIGH FIVES that carry the most weight for me and you.
That includes the importance of learning how to properly HIGH FIVE YOURSELF to start your day.
Yes…it’s important to HIGH FIVE other people but it’s ESSENTIAL that you validate your self-worth by generously giving yourself HIGH FIVES. It’s even more CRITICAL when you haven’t accomplished anything big than when you do.
Mind-blowing, isn’t it?
But when Mel goes into the physiological details, it makes perfect sense.
If that isn’t enough, Mel shares some eye-opening insights on how to cope with gossip and jealously. Here’s a hint. Learn to EMBRACE JEALOUSY.
And if you’d like to know how 5 SECONDS can change your life several times a day, Mel gives an awesome tutorial about the power of a 5-4-3-2-1 countdown.
There’s so much to impact behind the psychology of a HIGH FIVE.
BOTTOM LINE…
A HIGH FIVE is an amazing gift you can give others.
More important, a HIGH FIVE is an AMAZING gift you can give YOURSELF.

Mel Robbins not only saved my life, her five-second rule turned my life completely around and gave me the courage to shift my paradigm, and start a business. I was just diagnosed with cancer in late 2013, the previous year I went through a divorce, and it felt like my life was flat lining. I owe Mel Robbins everything, thank you for having Mel on your program! ~ Super Dave Raines

This is going to be life changing.... I'm the person who listens to every amazing podcast, takes notes and then kind of forget about it.... Some things I'll take away, but boy did this particular podcast hit me in all my feels and made me realize I can do this, I can change my life, Mel mf'ken Robbins is amazing, and I"ve been wanting to start her mindset reset program from back in 2019! This podcast is what I need, her stories are amazing, touching, shocking, what she's gone through so relatable! These stories are ones I've never heard before, and I'm blown away. As Ed was praising her I was right there with her, she's amazing, the way she tells stories, her no bs attitude, gahhhh Im going to meet her one day, she's my painting, I can't wait to be living my dream life, and being absolutely humbled to be in her presence one day! Now I'm blabbing, but this was amazing this is going to change so much, not only for me, not only for my family but for so. many. people....sharing sharing sharing!!!

I have shared with people for decades the ancient law ‘energy follows thought’. I have watched the things I share improve their lives, not as much for myself. I had no idea how a simple‘high five’ could change a day.I had not experienced you “Miracle Mel” until after this incident. I was experiencing an oppositional day full of frustration. While moving down the road with the traffic (I bet you know where this is going lol) when the cars in front of me began stopping. When BAM a car slammed into the back of the car. Segue back a bit, I have only had the car for three months and vehicle nightmares behind that. Back to the moment, we pulled into a parking lot and stopped. The driver was fragmented and could hardly think, an accident, two screaming children, kind of a mess. Asking if they are ok and I had looked at the cars and the only damage was a bent license plate. My bad day could have escalated into really bad but? Without actually using my brain I said “high five, give me a high five “ which confusion she did. There was nothing to tell anyone, like police or insurance people. However her little ones were still upset. I had some mints in the car and gave some to her to distract her little ones, did another high five to celebrate that all was well and we parted. The entire day was incredible altered into an amazing day of calm. I did not even attempt to ask myself why, I just enjoyed that rare day. Segue it was a few months later while driving and listening to something on KZread that the segment finished and this Mel person came on and I could not change it so I for the first time listened to Mel share her ‘High Five’ story. Weird and wonderful stuff, thanks Larry :)

Mel Robbins is by far one of the best, most authentic and creative coaches out there because she "talks what she's walked". I love the 5 second rule and have been using it for quite a while in my life. The idea of "the high five" is fantastic. I usually look at myself in the mirror and say something like "I love you! You're great! You've got this". I think the high 5 is even better because it's anchored to a certain meaning and movement of the hand. Mel is a genius and I can't wait to hear her next "self development tool". Hopefully it will also be connected to the number 5 which is a good luck charm or a protector from the evil eye in Arabic "chamsa". I will definitely listen to this again and take notes. #MAXOUT from Israel

Wow I saw her on someone else’s show and she was nothing like this. This was breath taking because you guys really vibed and she truly let her guard down. I saw this exact type of interview about the same book and felt nothing on another popular channel first but her stories really inspired me that there is something more and there are so many loved ones connect to us and behind us watching out for us. My sister Michelle went to the other side last year a month into covid and I couldn’t miss her more I’ve actually shut her voice out but watching this reminded me I need to listen to myself more and listen to her voice again. We were like twins so when she died I lost a part of myself it felt like I was missing half of my body but as I come into my own I’ve had to see therapists take meds and I hate that I feel so stuck. I am getting distracted by the ad playing after your video lol but the point is that I’m going to start cheering myself on again and listening instead of ignoring what I really want. It’s hard to make big life shifts but my inner self is calling me to some big changes but I feel like I keep spinning my tires and like no real growth is happening. Anyway one moment one day at a time but I am believing, not just hoping, for better. 🙏Namaste, Joy Karhu

53:01 Ed "You are right for me in this space!"...Mel reciprocates...but these 2 are truly gifted and speaking personally LITERALLY saved my life when in December and January,I was seriously contemplated "switching the lights off" on my life.(other factors helped) but when you have positivity and good workable advice that these 2 give...Mann...God Bless you both..#maxout

@EdMylett I am a first time viewer who had not found your work until today. In searching through You Tube to find the 5 second rule suggested by a friend, I chose this video not knowing anything about you or the message. Thank you so much for participating fully and posting this inspiring interview with Mel Robbins. When the pupil is ready, the master shall appear. I bought the Audible of The Hi-Five Habit and am thrilled to continue learning. WOW. #twistingtales

You know what...it is 8:47 pm Sunday night and this resonates highly...so highly that I just gave myself a high 5 in the mirror. This is now a practice that I will do from this moment on.

As it wrapped up I thought "I think I'll start that over and play it again" and then Ed goes "this may be one you listen to again. At least that's my hallucination." Ed manifested me listening to this twice, back to back. That's powerful shit!

Me too Mel, I suffered too. I've been trying to explain the things you talk about to people for years. (Not high fiving yourself in the mirror) but the rest of it. I walk around saying things like "I had to change my thinking".. "It was the way I think that was the problem".. "My thinking was making me sick" (it really was too...anxiety, high blood pressure, multiple suicide attempts.).. I didn't need research.. I somehow by the grace of God just figured it out, and the research didn't matter to me. (because I had results). I am so grateful that you are bringing this information out into the world in a digestible way that people can use... I love it 😁 The day that I got humble enough to be wrong, and also courageous enough to tell my brain to SHUT UP everything changed. The whole world changed.
