The Hidden Past Of My Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale?!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I've now owned my Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale for a few months, had an initial mechanical inspection done by AV Engineering, spent around £5,000 on essential work and completed a 1,000 mile road trip. In this video, I discuss 'what's next' for the car by visiting DK Engineering, Car Audio Security and Hilton & Moss... where I discover my car may have had a more interesting past than I realised.

I wouldn’t bother with the double din screen. As bizarre as it seems, consider the Porsche classic radio single din and get the bezel painted to remove the word Porsche. The era of button style will look closer than a modern car stereo.

Nice to see the 191. I've posted before that as a kid at the RDS in Dublin in late 1991, and acting on the orders of my big brother, I snuck under the barriers and tried to climb into it before security got me. The eventually agreed I was allowed to sit on the front wheel. I also met the then-unknown Alessandro Zanardi, who eventually became Alex Zanardi. He didn't speak much English at the time. I still have his autograph. Good old days. Also a huge MSC fan.

AirPod Pro 2s are my go to in my old cars. Has adaptive mode, so it draws out the unnecessary noise but still maintains the exhaust/engine noise to an enjoyable level. Just play white noise or something similar and it won’t distract either from driving. I use them in my old 930, that might have a straight through exhaust.

My most memorable race was Hockenheim 2004 where Michael won and also Monza in 2003 with all the Tifosi. Two of the greatest races I've been too. Those screaming engines too! I've got most of his cars, figurines, replica small scale helmets the lot. My office is a Schumacher shrine. Fabulous videos as always, I love the passion!

Sam - This is great to follow your new acquisition (challenge stradale at last!!!) after hearing you long for one for years! I do have a question - the minor corrosion up by the wing mirror and on the arches. I have that exact same issue on a car, a low miles Mercedes W124 cabriolet that's rarely even seen weather, but somehow, these areas developed over time. The car is otherwise not a rust bucket whatsoever. I'm wondering (quite technically) how they will actually fix that. Bodyshops I've gone to about it have all said replace panels, full stop. Sigh - to me this seems overly invasive. But seems the shop (which is very high end - and does to the top standard) you've visited actually will repair. I'd love to know more detail about what they do, so I can convince someone over here to do the same on mine.

I also had a similar issue with a certain mid 90s car with only a single DIN slot free and not wanting a flip up which would block the HVAC controls. I was also worried about the relatively minimalist interior design of cars of this era and a flashy head unit would ruin the overall look. I settled on a Continental TR7412UB-OR as it looks the most factory against these sort of cars. It came with bluetooth audio so was good enough for my use case.

I wouldn’t do the screen. You could probably get a 3D printed magnetic mount for the Air con vent. I would do the window mount. It doesn’t look that bad and it is functional.

Sam, Can't they supply a single din with a screen that drops DOWN instead of up. There is plenty of room in a 360 incl a CS below the stereo housing instead of going up. The issue will be if then a unit/screen does allow that reverse play mode? Then you get Apple Car play and extras.

Try a QUADLOCK. They do a vent mount etc...

That is my fave F1 car of all time. Best form for Andrea de Cesaris in that car. RIP Andrea and Forza Michael.

Get a goose neck mount for your phone. It comes up from the floor. It mounts to the seat frame I think.

How do you walk out of DK and NOT make mention of the Daytona Spider behind you as you were drooling over the Singer?? Use your Challenge well! 👍👍

I'm with you Sam, with a valuable collectable car like you have, keeping it looking OEM is key for me too. Does Ferrari have something similar to what Porsche have for their older models where they (Porsche) have new audio units with modern features (ie. Apple Car Play etc) that replaces the original head unit, with something that still have the look and feel of an original OEM Porsche head unit?

Could not agree with you more, Sam. The Enzo is my ultimate personal favorite. Not the F40, F50 or even the LaF
