The Heartwarming Time I Helped a Baltimore Oriole
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Sometimes a bird comes into life leaving a memorable experience. I had one such case with a beautiful Baltimore Oriole that was a long way from home and during the most difficult season. The journey I had while caring for this bird was touching, to say the least.

This was such a poignant and heartwarming story, Lesley. I sincerely believe the oriole left on its migratory journey south after regaining its strength and fat reserves, albeit much later than it planned. One thing is for sure, you saved this little one's life and helped it survive and that is so touching. I can't believe she ate out of your hand - how utterly thrilling! The unique thing about her bill injury is that that makes her identifiable, and although you've never seen her again, you never know if someone who sees this video and perhaps this bird, lets you know. One in a million, but still... I bet this bird is still around telling all the other orioles about the harsh Canadian winter and the nicest human she has ever met. Thanks for sharing this with us, it truly warmed my heart.
To be able to get an Oriole to eat out of your hand... That's something but to get one into the house. Pretty cool!!!

What a nice story! I really do think you gave it the boost necessary to get back where it belongs.
Years ago, I saw a young starling outside with its talons frozen to a metal post. Even though I hate starlings, I got some warm water from the sink and poured it on its leg and it flew away. Just one of God's creatures.

Delightful story. Thank you for sharing. I watch birds daily. I had a falcon visit me the other day & noticed it was young. It sat right in front of my large window and stared at me. I love birds. I paint them now.
I'd like to think she made it back to whereever she came from thanks to your help
What a journey! I'm brought to tears worrying about this poor little thing struggling in the cold. She really lucked out catching your eye. Thank goodness for observant and caring people like you, Leslie. I think you really helped her regain her energy in order to journey south. ❤️
What a great story and how good it is to see there are other people, going out of their way to help even the tiniest animal in the most desperate situation. In the city it's frowned upon to even spend a little energy to help a non domestic animal; feeding pigeons or geese is a nono and people think you are crazy if you feed young stranded seagulls on a frozen river with some bread and fish. And of course the eternal sin of trying to save a bee. Anyways...that bird flew off and lived, tnx to your kind heart and some divine intervention, which of course, is kind of the same thing. Merry Xmass to all the kind people of the world!
This is such a beautiful story 😊

Love this!!!! Thanks for sharing!! So many animals are being shifted around with weather changes. Love when people take care of them to help them on their way. What a gift.
Odd is this may sound to some people, I can't help feeling like many of these birds find ways to communicate with one another, and one way or another this or you'll knew exactly where to go to find the right person to take care of her. She found the right yard and willingly ate from the right hand. I always admire your innate abilities with them. They know

Loved your story! We are kindred spirits, you and I. Birds cheer my soul.
I'm by Toronto, ON. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, my grandmother had Baltimore Orioles that would come and eat the berries off of her Mountain Ash trees. She would also get cedar waxwings.
The natural sounds with your voice are so gentle and calming. ❤🖤🧡🧡❤!!~* You and your husband's 💕 compassion for her, along with the way you have brought this video together is really what makes this a success🧡💕
Sweet story! Thanks for sharing. This summer, when I was walking outside, I almost stepped on a hummingbird that was on the sidewalk. It look like a tiny stick with green moss sticking up until I really got a good look at it I carefully picked it up an Aleve and took it home and gave it some sugar water, and it finally was able to fly away a few hours later I really enjoyed the close encounter I had and that I was able to help it

One of my favorite lines in the Bible: "For God's own are the guardians of the earth". Thank you for being God's bird guardian!
This is what we animal lovers do. This is who we are. ❤ We are currently fostering a hoarder rescue cat that just gave birth to 5 kittens in our home. Sadly, 2 died after only 3 days , but the other 3 seem good and healthy for now. All we can do is try our best to give them a good chance at life. That is the reward. Thank you, Lesley, and Merry Christmas!
This is an amazing and heart-warming story. We know that you are an avid bird-watcher, but this goes way beyond what people would do under the winter conditions you live in. Most of us, including me, would have given up and let nature take its course. You stuck it out, even though the odds are slim for the survival of this bird. Nature in general is not kind to its creatures. You are. And obviously you have a husband who is too.
You are a delightful very special person. Thank you❤️🦋

It's time for the great auk
Thank you for being so kind to these hardy but vulnerable little creatures! ❤️ When I was a child in the 1960s living in northern New Jersey I found a Baltimore oriole in a shrub in our suburban backyard. I had only seen a Baltimore oriole in my neck of the woods a handful of times! Such a beautiful and colorful bird! When I first noticed him (it was a male) I was close but the Oriole made no attempt to fly away. He was shaking and then I noticed flies flying around and landing on him. The bird was dying but I wanted to help him somehow! I went and got gloves and cupped the little guy who was unable to escape and brought him over to our wooden picnic table away from the flies and foliage. I quickly went in the house and brought out some birdseed and dish of water laying them right next to him. He made no attempt to eat, I suspect he was diseased and suffering in his last moments. I got a spoon and tried to bring water and seed directly to his beak but the bird had bigger problems on his mind. I was a kid and didn't know what else to do! At this point the flies had found the bird and all I could do at this point was try to swat them away! The bird passed on a short time later. More than 50 years later that memory still haunts me! I felt so helpless to render assistance. I'm glad you were able to help another oriole so many years later!
Such a touching story, thank you. 🙂

Lesley your the best!!! Your helping the little Oriole makes you a real sweetheart in my book. Thanks so much for the wonderful story.
You are amazing! If she ate a lot of suet for a number of days following her recovery chances are she was building up for a long flight. I suspect she may come back to see you - she will not forget you or her food supply. Your nurturing and consistency will have sustained many birds throughout winter and your videos are so interesting and educational - thank you so much. I really love your stories.

You are a wonderful and caring lady! Thank you for helping her survive that cold spell. I once had a chickadee come to my feeder that had a fishing hook protrude from her beak! I felt so sorry for her. She came here because she knew this is the only place she can find nourishing sustenance easily. This was five years ago and she was here for more than two months till the end of the snow. I never saw her again; I'll never forget her!
Thank goodness for gals like you.

A similar thing happened here in Scarborough last summer. We noticed while a eating our dinner, a Baltimore Oriole pecking at a crab apple in the tree outside our window. We have never seen one before and had to look it up to see what kinda bird it was. The next day our bird loving nieghbours put out a orange slice for it. And it came back and i was able to get a picture.
