The summers are beautiful too. Its literally perfect. Not too hot, not too cold, not too wet & not too dry. Where do you live?

@@bigballssteve6797 the intentions of colonialism were not good ones. Colonialism was about taking land, resources and manpower. Millions were killed and enslaved and entire cultures and cultures destroyed. A side effect of this was that some of the advancements of the invading colonialists were adopted or left for the indigenous peoples when the 8nvaders decided to leave, if indeed they did leave. So, the intention of colonialism and indeed its effect was mass destruction and theft initially followed by an abandonment, whilst retaining a certain amount, or complete control (in most cases). You internet trolls will never rewrite history and your efforts are pathetic 🙄

@@mrp9023 obviously there was bad parts of colonialism but we built the best countries like America,new Zealand, Australia, Canada, south Africa. Loads of countries wouldn't have schools, universities,railways,roads without us

What is important, Mr. Rick declares his speech very clearly, sufficiently and teachable :) which is on me, I grew my English based on these lessons :)

I'm a Londoner, and This series of Rick's travel vlogs make me feel really lucky

This isn't meant to diminish your respect for the beauty of Britain, in this video. I'm afraid that at this time of living, Britain is in very bad condition. I've seen the British society going in decline since the early '90's and while many are living on the breadline, the legislation system is fully corrupt. A large number of British citizens are damaged by drink and drugs, obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis. It's fascinating how a world empire has plunged into a shadow of what it once was.

rxp56 uh huh. And the homeless rate is ten times more than in the 60s, I can’t afford the debt for an education and have no chance of attaining the money when cost of living would require 3 minimum wage jobs.. this is the first generation (I’m a millennial) that has and will have less than the one before. My dad bought a car and a house in his 30s and he didn’t grow up wealthy that’s for sure!! That was anything but unusual. Please let me know what was incorrect.

for most foreigners they only think of London Manchester or Birmingham when you mention to them England. for me i prefer the england of the small towns surrounded by ever green countrysides ,canals and small rivers, such as Shrewsbury, Bradford on avon, the cotswold villages, Whitby, Berwick upon Tweed, and much more.

I now regret for not visiting those lovely places while studying in the UK for 4 years. Such a miss!

Dear Sir. Rick, I enjoyed this video, it's mainly because England is my most favourite country in the world. But to say, I have never visited and hard to say that I would get a chance to visit there as well. I am a Sri Lankan and I treasure your efforts, so that even if we are not able to travel to these great lands, we would get glimpses of their specialties.

I was a chorister at Oxford while studying abroad from the US. If you're there during term time, drop in to an Evensong service! you won't regret it

Quite so! Three of Oxford's thirty-eight Colleges are choral foundations so if you wish to attend Evensong try New College, Magdalen College or Christ Church. Because the College Chapels are currently managed by the Church of England anyone can come to listen to this beautiful end-of-the-working-day service for free, even when the rest of the College is closed to visitors!

Industrial revolution was created so the Corporations could maximise their profits. By extending working hours, speeding up a manufacturing process and getting product quicker and farther.

Lord, grant me the immense pleasure to behold with my own eyes the breathtaking views of this more than beautiful country! What a delight to see all this.

Europe is so rich in history that someday I intend to go there and enjoy, the Highlands is so awesome and the traditions, culture, and their own language is what makes them so unique.

My teacher's wage in our third world country will never be enough to fund my dreams to travel in England Thank you for this.

For me Ironbridge is the most appealing because it is the centrepiece of the beginning of the modern industrial world. Saying that the pubs of Oxford and Cambridge ( known as Oxbridge) are well worth a visit such as the one the author Tolkien (Lord Of The Rings) frequented in Oxford.

I have seen half the world through your video, for the first time I have seen so much modern education in the world being dominated by England.

I never tire of revisiting Rick's England adventures and remembering mu numerous trips there. The funny stories I could share.... Can't wait to venture back.

After watching Rick Steeves for more than 20 years (first on PBS), I feel confident in saying he feels like a familiar friend. There's no one quite like him. But he comes alive when he's imbibed a little and I love his bloopers at the end of each video. Both times show us his sillier side. Which is important to have if you are going to enjoy your journey. 🥴 LL

I love your videos. I went to Oxford once and watching your video about it felt like I was back there again. Your videos are perfect for people who have never gotten to travel before or who can't afford to but are interested in seeing other countries. I hope you visit the North East of England some day. It's gritty but Durham and Newcastle are stunning historic cities and there are some beautiful, historic villages dotted about and lots of stunning castles, especially in Northumberland.

loved this episode... I think big part of that is because Ironbridge was the first scenic/historic location I visited on my first trip to England. I was visiting a friend who lived in nearby Shifnal and she took me to this charming old town to have a look around and then have dinner and beer at an authentic British pub! that year - 2007 was the year that the Severn had massive flooding and when I was there a few months later you could still see debris up at the level of the buildings, 20+ feet above the normal level of the river. and plenty of evidence in this video of the hot dry summer that north western Europe had this past year. we were in Belgium and the Netherlands in October and even then temps were in the 20-25C range and we only had one light sprinkle in 2 weeks which is unheard of!
