My last name is Howard, I live in New England. The Howard family has lived in Vermont at least since late 1700's. These could be my ancestors.

Forever in my mind as a staring role in Brideshead Revisited.
So great it's still in the family.
There is something about those wide open spaces, with the "natural" landscape designed to perfection. I hadn't realized the house took 100 years to build! The art collection there is incredible! I recall a few scenes from Brideshead Revisited, where the actors walked those long halls with statues, and had some hard conversations in the chapel. Thank you for braving the rain for a better look at the grounds. Another great tour!

Yes the artwork is amazing, it really needs to be seen first hand and close up. What a collection! It was a wet old day but I think we managed ok!
Another exquisite building that I didn't know existed. The interior is breath taking and a total contrast to the boring modern buildings being built today. A peek into how the gentry lived. Another vlog that I will watch over again as there is so much to see. Thanks Simon and Will, I love starting my Sunday mornings strolling around new places with you. Take care =-)

"The fourth and fifth Earls WOULD fill the house". NO ! Why the conditional ? Try, "The fourth and fifth Earls filled the house .....". " Guests WOULD have arrived in horse-drawn carriages". If they had been invited ..... is that what the narrator means ? Pellegini's paintings were not, and are not, "incredible". They are perfectly credible. They are there aren't they ? If the narrator wishes to gush, he could describe them as "superlative" or something similar,(they are not), but certainly not "incredible" I thank your Simon and Will, nonetheless, for this video. They have shewn me enough to save me from wasting money on a visit. I had my suspicions and they have confirmed that it is, along with everything that Vanbrugh and/or Hawksmoor had anything to do with ..... GROSSLY UGLY .....as is St Paul's Cathedral AND that monstrosity in Oxfordshire. I would rather look up at the ceiling in my local Lidl.

@@terryhoath1983 Do you need to be so rude and patronising? I spotted six errors in your comment. You clearly don't check what you write (or if you did then go back to school).
This is where they filmed Daphne and Simon's visit to his ancestral home in Netflix's Bridgerton
I appreciate your efforts & perfection in each video, even the background music which is sp pleasant & relaxing... Beauty of castle is just beyond words, it's architecture, lake, gardens, parks & its treasured collection of antiques are so interesting & fascinating 😀😊 England's beauty was what i learned from books 📚, since I never been there till day but your videos bought life to my imaginations.. thank u

Charles Carlisle was ''A gentleman of the King's bedchamber. The duties of the Lords and Gentleman of the Bedchamber originally consisted of assisting the monarch with dressing, waiting on him when he ate, guarding access to his bedchamber and closet and providing companionship.....and providing companionship. Do you think that these days he would be known as a pimp to royalty? That is a serious question.

Ничего, все продолжается … thanks for this video 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you Will and Simon for another excellent tour and commentary on Castle Howard. It brings back memories of my favourite BBC adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's book Brideshead revisited first shown early 1980's
Thank you for the wonderful tour and thank you to the Howard family for allowing you to video for public viewing! Keep up the good work 👍 JIM ❤

I visited Castle Howard today. It was absolutely wonderful.
Thanks for the tour of Castle Howard, I love the purely English style of castles, the architecture, painting, sculpture and engineering structures that the English aristocracy is famous for are impressive. Fantastic garden, the owners had a delicate taste and sense of style, the nature is amazing, these fountains are simply suitable for filming a movie and no scenery is needed. I wish England to cherish all this beauty, this is a memory of history, of those people who created these beautiful castles that we look at and admire. Hello from St.Petersburg. Come, we also have many palaces and something to admire. With a deep sense of gratitude. Thank you sincerely for the pleasure. ❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you so much, so glad you liked it. Welcome to the channel. I am not sure I would be a very good tour guide, trying to remember all the facts! Its one thing to write down to do the voiceovers but all the little details for different places I think I would get lost! haha 😊
When we traveled to the British Open in St. Andrews in 2010, we toured Castle Howard. That jaw-dropping view of the great hall and the view of the fountain in the distance was really something! A very beautiful estate. They were setting up fireworks for a party of some sort that was being held on the grounds later that day.

We visited today. It was amazing, all decorated for Christmas. 🌲 Nice to find out more about it's history.
Visited Castle Howard imi early 1983. It was Magnificent!
My mom and I were there ten years ago. We only had a few hours available, so we just toured the house and walked around the gardens directly next to the building, but it was very impressive. (I will admit that my favorite manor house on that trip was actually Dunrobin Castle north of Inverness-it is not quite as imposing as Castle Howard and more charming as a result.)

Yep, it's bad enough that you have to let the scruffy peasants in sometimes to be able to afford to maintain your modest hut. Imagine having to have them permanently spoiling your view! 😱😜😁
When you return to Vietnam, please stop by Hai Linh RV Castle, which also has a vast lake and a very beautiful location, built on a land fund of 4,485.3m2 - 5,000 m2, designed in 2019 with drawings for competition. Designed by architect Phan Vuong, the entire facade architecture will be completed by 2023

Thank you, it’s been a delight revisiting this “enchanted palace” again, albeit in virtual mode from far away Australia. My first visit was 45 years ago, way before the Brideshead phenomenon and I don’t think there was even a gift shop or cafe then, thrilled to see how “loved” it still is.
A timeless building so beautiful and well looked after thank you for this wonderful video thumbs up ❤
I love your tours of ancient & historic homes, castles and beautifully landscaped gardens. This was so enjoyable. I've never been through an ancient castle but did spend two days touring Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Beautiful, but no comparison.
Hi Simon and Will. Howard Castle was meant to impress and it succeeded. The interior is warm, elegant and inviting. The exterior, grounds and gardens don’t disappoint. Thanks for the tour of this beautiful place. I look forward to Whitby next week. Stay well. ❤
A great video. Who would have thought there'd be a gloomy wet day on the Yorkshire moors? You did well to accomplish so much outdoor filming in those conditions. Looking forward to the next one, where it looks as if you were luckier with the weather.

MEMORY SEEKERS love your videos. My old dad visited England twice he simply loves it. Infact he got me into Masterpiece Theatre, history. I love the foods, Jane Austen (Georgian)and the old Victorian reformer writers(Dickens, Gaskell, George Elliott, etc) I once had a dear Cornish Christian friend who called me a Closet Brit..loved hearing about her dinner parties with the foods, scenery. Beautiful
I stayed on the grounds here as a child in the late 1970s. I'll never forget walking in the early summer morning around by the mausoleum to the sound of peacocks. It's an absolutely wonderful place!
