THE HARD TRUTH ABOUT RUNNING | What No One Talks About...
Спорт
Running is hard. Like extremely hard.
In this video I take you on my journey up to Flagstaff, Arizona to train in cooler weather. I fully expected this run to be one of my best ever, but instead it was possibly the worst... this is the side of running that is rarely talked about.
This is episode 11 of my Journey to Sub 3 series. I am currently training to run the Chicago marathon in under 3 hours on October 8th. Join me on my journey!

I suffered through a horrible 5 km run yesterday and really needed to see this video. Absolutely crushed a 15 km run today and fell in love with running all over again. It’s refreshing to see the good and the bad - thanks for sharing your struggles as well as your successes. And Suits is absolutely phenomenal. I’m rewatching season 1 right now!
Something I noticed is how mature and level headed you are. You are a calm and independent individual. Keep grinding brother.

They were awesome! I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Flagstaff! Thanks for the support 🙏🏼
Since I started watching you I now hit no less than 60 miles a month ! Love your videos man motivate me to take my fitness seriously
Recently started my running journey at 30 and it has been fun and hard. Good to see someone explaining that hard days are normal, validating and motivating at the same time. Good luck for sub 3.
Amazing video Nico. Spoke the truth of running. Despite all the bad runs, pain we feel, injuries we get, week coming back because we’re dedicated.
You were one of the first runners I started watching on KZread! You and Matt Choi have really motivated me to get into running properly and safely!
I’ve had bad runs too and i like to think that those bad runs are what make me able to have good runs. Your really inspiring Nico! All runners lets stay strong!! ❤️🔥
Honestly love your videos , everytime I have a moment where I don’t want to run , your videos pop up and they give me that boost . So thank you for your content ✊🏼
Love the videos bro! I’ve had like 4 surgeries since graduation which was two years ago and your content is a huge reason I got back into running. I’m 19/a college student/as well as content creator! 💪 I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from your videos and day in the life content. Excited to see what comes next! Keep it up 🚀
this is only my 3rd video of yours. im watching kinda sporadically since finding you. but i had my first awful run since getting back into it, and everything you said was so inspirational. you're so young but so wise!!! so grateful to be able to run and so grateful to have found your channel. ❤
Loving the reflections and attitude. We can't take a healthy body for granted - well said. Keep it up.
Nico, you’re honestly such a good running influencer. I’m running high school xc and super inspired by your videos! Keep up the good work
Just finished my first marathon this past Sunday and you def were part of my inspo! Keep up the great work! You’re going to kill it in Chicago 💪🏻
Thank you for your honesty. Love that you don’t shy away from vulnerability and the hard truths that come with endurance sports.
Great video Nico! I am also a college student over in Florida just getting into running myself and your videos inspire me to keep going. Great work dude you are blessed.
I love your channel. I just started running and training for my first ever half marathon this coming May. Came across your channel and can’t stop watching. So genuine and I so appreciate that, KZread and social media needs more of people like you on it! Keep killing it and making content. God bless you 😊❤ P.S. I’ve also showed my 10 year only son your channel. He plays soccer too and has also now started to pick up running.
Hey Nico! I’m an amateur boxer and just wanted to give my thanks. You help me out a ton during runs, I’m not very tuned into the running game but I do have to say that you and this other runner I watch Mathew Choi both have helped me tons! When i gotta push through I think of you guys! Thanks brother, i am doing my best to pass on the amazing feeling of running to others I know as well. Thank you. - from Santa Barbara, Cali 🤙🏽
Gosh, little monologue in the middle gives me the chills. Perspective is key!!! I’m watching from NKY/Cincinnati! Absolutely love your content.
I see so many patients who wish they could even still walk. So happy that you continue to be grateful for your abilities. Stay that way 💗
your content is sooo high quality. I really appreciate it very noticeable how much work you put into this. currently training for my first ever marathon and this was exactly what I needed to hear You got this! Your perspective is so on point and you’re going to smash that goal
Thanks for sharing the good and the bad. Keep going man, you totally got this ! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thanks for all the inspiration.
Appreciate your transparency, Nico! Good luck with your training.
Ur videos and motivation is on point in my opinion. Keep it up. 🇯🇲
Thanks so much for this video. It so nice to see realistic feelings with running and I related so much. Excited for your content
i hope after this series you still will shoot video. you have a great way of telling a story and getting the best shots. even outside of running, you have great content. it’s refreshing in the youtube space. keep it up.
I'm just getting back into running. Literally day 2 of a C25K. I know it will get better as I've done this before. Because I'm 52 I tell myself how lucky I am to even have the option to run. No injuries and no health issues. When you were halfway through the video and said basically to embrace the suck and be grateful you can do this and feel the paid, It was so relatable to me. I tell myself that on every run. I enjoy your videos as I find them inspiring and motivational. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
Editing and quality on point as always! I love that your content is always so inspiring while still being down to earth, and realistic.

This is the second video of yours that I've watched. I watched your 22 mile workout first when it showed up in my feed. Incredible job on that one by the way. When I first clicked on your video I thought wow, why does he have almost 200k subscribers. After watching both of these I now know exactly why. You are very inspiring and well spoken. I love what you said in this one about how blessed you were to have a body that can run and to do it in those beautiful surroundings was a bonus. I have thought the same exact thoughts. I am currently in my 7th week of training for my first marathon. I have done numerous 5 and 10ks and 3 half marathons but never anything as fast as you're doing. I turned 55 this year and had quit running after my last half in 2019 so this is starting all over again and a big goal that I'm not sure I can do either but I'm giving it my all. Thank you for sharing your journey and I wish you the very best. Never stop, as long as you're able.
Watching from Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Thanks for the great video. It’s refreshing to see a ‘normal’ video on running issues. Good luck in your quest for a sun 3hr marathon 👍👍👍
I'm running my first half-marathon this weekend, and this was a nice little extra motivation boost. Thanks G!
Keep at it bro I feel u so much on a lot of what u said. Love what you’re doing!!
Thank you for this! Just did my first ever 10k and now training for a half marathon! It’s truly insane the dedication you put into it and let alone the fact that your doing it alone. I love this and keep it up!

Good work on this one, Nico! Training to run my first 1/2 in the spring and a couple races this fall. Great vid!
I really like what you are doing Nico! Keep on pushing💪🏻
Your varieties of water made me laugh! 😂 You are 100% correct about appreciating what you are able to do - I had back surgery after many years of pain. I was in a deep depression over the things I couldn't do - I would watch people run and wish I could be them. I have a silly stupid smile on my face everytime I run now.
I really appreciate this video. Thank you. A lot of people don't know the mental struggles we go through sometimes as runners. I recently had two bad runs back to back and actually cried during them, but i got through them, and then this mornings run felt a lot better. Running sometimes feels like heartbreak then reels you back in with the feel-good blissfulness, then repeats the cycle over again. 😆 🤣 At the end of the day when you bring the focus back to gratitude you can always endure more than you think you can. Best of luck on your sub- 3 journey! Also, I love Flagstaff. I visited there for the first time a few weeks ago, and ran around schultz creek . It was a strugglefest for sure, but a beautiful one! Lol
Good Saturday Morning from Atlanta. Although I use a cane, I still watch your videos. They are uplifting & have inspirited me enough to start physical therapy…AGAIN! Thx & May God’s goodness be with you.
I have been considering the same thing but for winter. I live in Northern VA and want to book a weekend in SC for a long run; training for my first marathon. But also, a change of scenery is always a good thing too. I just purchased the HUMA also, thanks for the quick review on these. I hate gel, yuck but like you hope I can tolerate them while I am on my long runs. thanks for the share and love the run my friend
Flagstaff is so beautiful! Great run with a stunning view. Nothing like nature 🎉
yo whatsp nico. I live in alabama and im a junior in highschool. I run xc for scottsboro highschool and we're approaching state week and the grind is real. just now coming out of a stomach virus and bad runs are inevitable at this point but im gonna stay consistent and grind my way thru this. Love your videos, wish you the best to make it to sub 3 in the marathon.
Glad you like the huma gels bro. Can’t wait for you to hit sub 3 😎 I live in Colorado and consistently train above 5400ft so I feel your pain. Elevation ain’t no joke!
I recently started running again about 3-4 month ago after not doing it for some time and even though I know it’s going to be hard I still go and push through because I love the feeling after pushing through those tough times during my run. This was definitely nice to see because my past few runs have not been perfect by far but I’m just glad I keep coming out to do it Thank you for this video ♥️
"I'm just thankful I can run and feel pain. So if you're able to run, run. Never take that for granted". Subscribed.
GREAT MINDSET!!! LOVE THIS!! THANK YOU!
Keep up the good work, young stud.
I’m watching this video from Edinburgh, Scotland great video Nico I thoroughly enjoyed it thankyou.
just posted my first running KZread reel after being inspired by you. thanks for the motivation, tips, and consistency you bring
Going through running videos came across yours.. I think I'll follow for awhile. Have a great day!
I love Buffalo Park. It is very beautiful there. A sacred place. Yes, the altitude there makes it hard to run. Great for building endurance. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Just started my running journey so it’s hard! Some profound statements in this video I needed to hear!
My 8mile daily runs are a discipline and there are times it hurts. Plenty of water is key, don’t run on a full stomach but certainly make sure you had an adequate meal the night before. I think all of us as runners have had to play the touch and go game to see what does and doesn’t work. Thankyou Nico for the recommendation regarding the sneakers🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Inspirational bruv💪🏽
"It means nothing to set a goal you know you can achieve"... I like this statement. Great challenge
It’s getting cooler Nico luckily autumn is coming
One of the most amazingly executed videos on running out there. There are so many days where I feel like this and I question why is it that running comes easily for others but not me. I am glad you share this to your audience who may relate to you as well. It takes a lot to be this transparent. Keep it up, Nico!
Whether you run a marathon in 2:30 or 4:30 - It's always HARD - Keeping grinding brother! Big up from London
Tucson, AZ. It’s hot here too! Great video
I am 45 yrs old u recently did my sub3 on my 15 months running journey- for 22 yrs old you got along way to go my man best wishes - glad you got ur sub3 by the way . I did my second sub 3 at Boston recently.

Literally the best KZreadr out there

Just came back from a run which didn’t go as planned and seeing this video rn makes me feel a little better🥹 Thanks for this kind of content and for inspiring us! Kisses from Italy🫶🏼
When I came across your content, I thought it was neat having a fellow local Arizonan fitness youtube influencer. I run around 12 miles a week so idk if I'd call myself a real runner or not, but this type of running content is always useful to follow to see what it's like and what I can apply in my workout routines.

If you run 1 mile a week you are a runner
Excellent edit 👍 7k feet hits different man. Slow those paces! Flag is brutal, even on those flat trails at Buffalo Park. Slow 'em down 30 sec/mile by default. Then you can pick it up a bit if needed (much easier than going out too fast and having to slow down). Source: I've done the exact same thing you did on the exact same trail 😵
Loved this video! You have a new subscriber! ❤
New to running, I've found a passion with it. 32 years old always been athletic , ran here and there but never took it too serious. After a few months of consistency I've challenged myself to a half marathon March 24 this year. Staying consistent and following a plan to hit that 13.1 !!!!!!
Can’t wait for my first marathon 🙏🏽😮💨
Like a year behind y’all - just found your channel - but a super big SUITS fan. I’m also older though, so I watched it during its first actual run on TV.
I am also 22, getting serious about running (training for a 10k)and your videos are so inspiring!
love your vids mate
I am 10 days away from the day I attempt a sub 3 marathon. I feel alright about my fitness but I'm intimidated and freaked out as well but you're right, ultimately, every day we get to do this and run is a blessing.

Marathons are tough is my initial thought after the race - tough on the body but equally tough on the mind. Had to shut off my mind from all types of pain. Mile 22 I started going downhill before getting a grip through 24 and 25, then back to pace as the finish line got into sight. 2:59:30!!! Greatest achievement of my running life 😁 marathons still scare me though!

New Zealand man. Great content my dude 🙌🙌
Thank you. Seriously, thank you
Thanks for being honest about this run.
Hi Nico, I watched this video from France, you have all my support for this marathon prepa, your contents is so respectable and i thank you for that. When people lose motivation motivation they thinks they are alone but no, this video can help because in the side of a bad runs when we can go till the end, we grow mental and make our body better for the next performances ! 🌟👌
The editing 👌🏾 sharp
I felt that deep when you said at night like pitch black. Lol this is like a normal season in Texas😂
Bro suits goes crazy , love that show
Got my peak distance run tomorrow before tapering. 34km, going to be brutal but know I need to just push through. 🏃
I haven’t run in 3 weeks l, just been going through a rut, but your video just inspired me to get out of that rut , it’s not fair that I have a healthy body that I’m currently not taking advantage of when there’s people out there that would kill for the body I have !
This editing with the EDM mix during your run... absolutely SLAYS. 💅🏼💦

do you by any chance know the name of the song?
I know I am officially old because as soon as I started watching this, I couldn’t help but notice his shirt and it reminded me of how girls used to cut their shirts to show their shoulder back in the day lol. Fashion has left me behind lol I couldn’t be cool today if you paid me to. Idk what’s fashionable anymore lol. That’s why I stick to athletic clothing.😂 at least I know if I bought it recently it’s appropriate for the times. My wife is the only reason I don’t look like I stepped out of a time machine from the 90s.😅
Good luck with the training. Marathon training is a grind. I have been fortunate to run 30 marathons so far and many more to come. One tip - cut out the Monster energy drink, it’ll just hurt your training.
Love all your videos🩵🩵

It’s Video like these, that always get me motivated to run longer, faster, train harder. You’re Goated bro. Thank you for these vids and always giving advice to get better. Lots of love from LA . 🫡🤝🏽
The hotel tour 😂 10/10
flagstaff elevation is no joke I'm sure with the elevation conversion equivalent you hit those paces you set out to run so keep it up and keep that in mind
Thanks for the video
What a scenery..🦅
what a nice little training trip :')
U call it a bad run but do that same workout at sea level and i bet youll crush it
do you do any training in the gym to support your running? if yes, would be super interesting to see a video about it! keep up the great content
Upstate NY ! Good stuff!
That's dedication, I drove 15 mins to a closeby city to get 20 miles in the flat, that already felt like a stretch haha.
