I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Sister Vestal just a few months before she passed on to Glory. She was holding a concert at a church near my home alongside of her longtime friend the Reverend Dr. Johnny Minick It was such a special treat. I also had the privilege of hearing the Speer Family in concert and attended the Stamps Baxter School of Music with a group from my church.

Vestal's facial expressions as she sang gave one the impression that she was seeing heaven with all its glory.

How many of these wonderful people have traveled home. Howard, Vestal, Sam, and Rusty Goodman, Denver Crumpler, Big Chief, Rosie Rozelle, Jake Hess, Hovie Lister, J.D. Sumner, many of the Speer family, James Blackwood, George Younce, Glenn Payne, Roger Bennett, and so many more I couldn't begin to name them all. You all are missed and loved still!

You could see the life boat as Vestal saw it!! What an artist!!!

The Goodman's weren't perfect and they would tell you so. But they're style of singing and very talented abilities drew attention to what they were singing about. They touched a lot of people and I firmly believe helped start many a person to seek Jesus! If it was only one person, then it was still worth their life's journey!!!

No-one is perfect, we all have problems. That is the beauty of it all, that is why Jesus came to die on the Cross because He knew we needed His help and forgiveness! He knew we'd sin, have times in our lives where our families wouldn't get along, and fall apart. He knew there'd be times we'd be mad at Him, or didn't believe He was there, or ask why when a good person in our life was taken while the bad person lived on and on only to cause pain and heartache. God knew we couldn't abide by His 10 Commandments. So, He sent His Son as a mediator to bridge the gap between a perfect God and a sinful wretch like me. Folks, read James Chapter 2, if you need to be humbled. It doesn't matter if we commit adultery, murder or steal something, all those sins are equal in God's eyes!!! Do you realize if we held everyone accountable for breaking the 10 Commandments the way God views our sins, we'd all be in prison for life!!! But God in His love for us sent His Son to die a sinner's death, a death that I should've died of!!! You and me are no better in God's eyes than the person nxt in line on death row. You and me are no better than the drunk lost in the bottle, or the hooker on the corner! All of our righteousness to God is filthy rags i.e. basically junk in His eyes! I read James 2 and a good article on the web a few days ago, and it really woke me up. No-one is perfect, even after you're saved, we still need forgiveness because WE STILL SIN! I guess the point I'm trying to make is not to act like you're above someone because you're not, and I'm not. Vestal knew that, Howard knew that, Bill Gaither knows that. LOVE one another, drop the hate and malice! If you see someone backsliding, don't make a snarky comment like "oh, I thought he/she believed in Jesus and was supposed to have turned their life around, guess they didn't get saved." I hate comments like that! Pray for each other, and know you are NOT ALONE in your struggles. Just because you stumble doesn't mean you're not saved, ask Jesus to forgive you and try to do better. I am saying this for myself and for others. BTW DG, this isn't directed to you specifically, I just got down a rabbit trail of things I needed to say to anyone who reads this.

I never knew this song before I say this Gaither DVD. But, I especially like to watch Howard and Vestal. One of my favorite gospel songs, and my favorite version.

I saw the goodman's in concert in dallas texas. I have always had respect for them. Their songs have a clear message that points you to jesus, the cross, salvation. They will lift you up when you are feeling down.

I am going on 69 years of age and grew up hearing The Happy Goodmans. I firmly believe they sang for the love of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To me, they were always very sincere in what they were singing and weren't singing just to the people who came out to hear them but were singing to GOD in heaven. I'm sure when they passed and entered the gates of Heaven, GOD was there waiting for them and said "Welcome home my good and faithful servants".

So many of these precious people have made the transition! They are loved Ana missed, and I hope to meet them one day.

The Goodmans were simply the best, I could listen to them all day

I LOVE THE HAPPY GOODMAN'S. I FEEL THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IN THEIR SINGING. BEEN LOVING THEM SINCE THEY WERE ON TV WITH GOSPEL JUBILEE. THEY ARE GONE NOW AND I KNOW THEY ARE SINGING IN HEAVEN. THEY BELIEVED WHAT THEY SUNG ABOUT.

The Goodman’s were true believers. My dad reached many sermons in their home church in Burnwell Alabama. I miss the old days of gospel singing, true word of God, and dinner on the ground!

Beautiful, Godly singers. I would love to see a movie about their lives.

Oh Lord, about every time I watch them sing the tears seem to rise over the gate... Thank God that when we're about to drown in our tears, there is a Lifeboat coming to take us Home.

Totally agree, I think he must attend the Church of Hollier than Thou. Vestal and Howard were good people, did they make a living from singing yes but at least it was done with a good heart for the right reasons. I've seen a lot of hollier than thou types who are backstabbing and live very high on the hot while preaching against wealth of others.
