The hang meets overtone singing | Bruno Bieri | TEDxBasel
Most people know the sound of a steel drum. However, not that many know its smaller cousin the hang. Bruno Bieri beautifully plays this instrument while adding numerous colors through his overtone singing.
The intro animation was produced as a collaboration between TEDxBasel and the Hochschule Luzern. This animation was created by Loïc Kreyden and Valentine Moser.
Find out more about this event and the other ideas that were shared at www.tedxbasel.com Bruno is a musician that often accompanies his songs with the Hang, an instrument invented in Bern. Through Nature-yodeling and overtone singing, he explores the reproduction of natural tones exemplified in alphorn and yodel singing. His concerts have taken him to India, the USA, the UK, Norway, and Saudi Arabia. Bieri is currently a freelance musician and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. Besides singing, Bruno’s passion is most definitely the alphorn. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I just met him in next to my home playing and singing. He is incredible. It sounds really nice here but if you stand infront of him the sounds IMMEDIATELY snatch you away into another world. I was in a hurry but I was truly spellbound and just stood there listening. Then he talked with me - amazingly friendly man on top of it!!
I'm a musician and I didn't know about the hang. Thank you for posting this. It's sound is much more pleasant and less metallic than the regular steel drum.
The combination sounds so beautiful. My heart was dancing along.
Met this fellow in Bern, Switzerland, this past week while randomly walking the city, he was playing this and toning in a small cove and it was absolute magic. Thanks Bruno!
This is very captivating, it didn't only feel like a polyphony of sounds, but also of identities.
He’s so passionate😍 And that makes it even more beautiful and charming :)
His voice is opening third eye and heart chackra immediately 🥰😍beautiful!

Slink Skateboards it's called a hang drum, and the overtone singing typical from Mongolia is called tuvan singing.

They're a bit expensive though. Search for a Rav Vast Drum. They have high quality sound but construction is different, it's more related to steel tongue drums.
