Go the chance to go and view the road going version of an all time Rally great, a Lancia 037 Stradale. A Group B legend that I had never before seen in the flesh

Wow.. lighten up would you.. this is a very rare car, not mainstream and the vast majority of people (and lots of younger car fans) will never have heard of it. It wasn’t intended as a personal insult to those that do know about it!

Love the way Jack pronounces the Italian names with the right amount of inflection & intonation in the accent. He may be British, but he's still Italian at heart.
When it comes to roadsters, you Brits are truly hardcore! Much respect to you.
Look at the SHAPE of it. They're just perfect. They really are something else. Legendary for a reason.
Wow what a unicorn of a car, you’re very lucky to see such a rare beast. Group B was a fantastic era of motorsport, something that we will never see again sadly. Those who have never seen Group B in action search here on KZread - it’s mind blowing! Thanks Jack 👍🏼
I remember wanting one back in the eighties, when there was one for sale at the local fiat/lancia dealership, it looked immense!

Group B was utterly crazy. It always felt like a disaster waiting to happen and, of course, it eventually and tragically did. The cars that the class allowed were extraordinary in their day and, like the 037, are still awe inspiring. I was lucky enough to get to have a very short ride in ac 6R4 in the late eighties. Very, very scary. Mostly sideways and deafeningly loud.

Anyone who bought Car magazine in the 80s would have been aware of the 037. There was one at the Shelsley Walsh hill climb a couple of years ago - fabulous thing!
Yes Jack, I've heard of it but I'm over 55 !! 👍👍🇬🇧
"I wouldn't say its a beautiful car.' Jack. I beg to differ. It's stunningly beautiful.
The 037 was expensive back when it was launched. I've owned my '76 Scorpion since the '80s and is the closest I can get to owning an 037....and yes, I have heard of the 037 and the Stratos as well.
It's Lancia, not Lansia. Like in "Channel". Cheers from Italy!

can't believe i missed this gem of an upload from you, thank you Jack!!! Don't go electric with the influ, hilarious moment in the austin with the truck in the rain, i swallowed my dunked rich tea whole in response. Good work A++
I did hear about, one even broke down recently on Harry('s Garage), it's incredible car!
My favorite car.stop.If i had one car I could drive before i die,the 037.Pure drivers machine.
My bugeye was in British racing green. It had oversized racing pistons, crankshaft, rods and pistons balanced, double row timing chain, ported and polished head with the camshaft bore linebored and fitted with bearings. At the time I could not get a 40DCOE side draught Weber and so settled for a 45 mm Weber DCOE that was jetted and choked to the minimum size available. It was a beautiful little car and only sold to finance my first home purchase. Your car brings back memories from almost fifty years ago.
I absolutely love these cars and at Castle came they have a rally event every year called rally day and at least two maybe three of them turn up in full rally trim and they’re just epic. Closest thing I could say you could relate it to would be an F 40 Ferrari. Just the rawness.
I always thought it was 'oh' 37! Stunning car however you say it 👍👍.
This, the F40 and 288GTO are my top 3 most favourite motorsport inspired cars of the 80s. No question, though, Lancia; the greatest rally cars of all time!

Great to see an 037 up close.
Aggressive elegance I like. Beautiful proportions. Your frog eye I love but I’d consider a ‘50s rather than ‘60s. - I know it continued until ‘61 but, as an eight year old, my friends big sister had one and it was definitely one of the first cars that sparked my interest. Cool back then but even cooler now.
Love the look of these - as you say, not the most beautiful car, but like many rally cars of the era, it's beauty comes from it's brutal purity of purpose.
Beautiful. That and the Stratos are in my Top 5 of all time. :)
Love Lancia. When you first show the 037, just to the left, peeking out from behind the garage, looks to be the back end of a Fiat 128. I had one years ago and loved it. If you ever have the interest or the time, looking into the 128 might be very entertaining. Mine was the plain Jane 1300 two door sedan...for me the best configuration. In Europe they had the Rally version which was the hotter set up. My late night runs through the canyons of the Hollywood Hills in my 128 are some of my fondest automotive memories.

@@davedave1027 I take back that point looking back at it- however the 037 did outperform the quattro in group B, may be argued against due to lancia bending the rules a little. However the audi quattro make a ton of money for audi as for the production aspect.
“An aggression with a bit of elegance to it.” Very articulate. Lancia Racing was on my RADAR as a kid when my German grandparents (rest their souls) bought me a die-cast Lancia Beta Turbo model in Alitalia colors. That waaaaaaas ‘83? ‘84? Great “review”!
