The gut-brain axis: Grow your gut, Expand your mind | Omar Koussa | TEDxUniversityofBalamand

NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at a TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside the TEDx content guidelines. We all know that the food we eat daily can affect our mood and psychological well-being. However, what if the choice of our food depends on tiny microorganisms inside our bodies?

Taking antibiotics really messed up my mood for many years. It's crazy how the gut-brain axis works! 95% of our serotonin is stored in our gut. After stopping antibiotics and taking probiotics, I rarely get anxious, or depressed, or moody. Oh, and did I mention, my relationships have gotten so much better!

Also, a lot of exercise like walking a few kilometers or miles every day for 6 weeks will help your gut biome. Also, meditating will help your gut biome. Eating a varied diet of vegetables can help (but avoid high FODMAP and high histamine (if you're experiencing that problem). Also, consume good probiotic brands and prebiotics. Take some fiber but gently. I consume ground flaxseed, sunflowers mixed in hot water and then add some chia to it and stir, and I add some stevia for flavor, so I do start my day with fiber. I also avoid gluten as much as I can, though I love, love bread.

Thank you for this but I understand why it may be flagged. The evidence is there but inconclusive and should not be used instead of going to a Dr/psychiatrist if you think you are depressed or anything else! That being said we have strong evidence of the connection between the gut and the brain

Very interesting, and another reason to watch out for the food we're eating, not only for our overall health, but even forbour mental health. It's weird how the microbiome could be at the base of all of this. Plus, after this video, I'm so glad i eat so many fibers😂 thanks Omar, round of applause 👏

Unless you're experiencing allergy, sinus problems, then you want to avoid cheese, kombucha, kefir, kimchi, spinach because you have histamine issues. If you don't, then you're good to go. If not, then try to have a strict diet, repair gut, take prebiotics and probiotics. That's what I'd say based on my experience.

@@Bazza5000 The Ko.bucha tends to promote il-10, which actually inhibits inflammation and overall immune response. Immune response is enhanced(il-12 and il-15) by blends containing L. caseii, B. Breve, an E. Faecium. Inflammation is reduced by L. Plantarum and L. Paracaseii which enhances il-10 output. Mixed probiotics weighted toward caseii/brave are more immuno stimulatory, where paracaseii/plantarum weighted blends are anti-inflammatory. The blend in Kombucha is anti-inflammatory. Very interesting indeed. In fact, the 10x microbial to human cells is an old estimation of the 1970s, recent studies have reduced that ratio to 3:1 (bacterial to human cell) and 1.3:1. What's more interesting is the new field of study looking into how our gut microbiome affects the functioning of our brains.

I like this video but pls remember correlation =/= causation. Babies born with autism are more likely born to older mothers which are more likely to have c-sections than younger mothers due to complications with age. There are many other instances in which you should've noted correlation doesn't equal causation.
