I always say Augustus and those students not only ruined The Grinch’s Christmas that day but they might’ve had ruined Martha May’s Christmas because I’d like to think that she most likely was gonna asked The Grinch if he wanted to spend Christmas with her, but due to those kids picking on him and him saying he hates Christmas and running away she couldn’t. So she was probably sad during Christmas.

Of all the Grinch backstories they've made, this one always felt the best. They didn't just make him a pariah like in the original; they gave him a depth that explained a lot of why he not only hated Christmas but kept away from the Who's, avoided them for so long, and wanted to finally get rid of Christmas once and for all. Hard to do with a book that only had a few lines about his backstory .

I know the feeling. Growing up with both the 1966 original, the book and this film as a child, I began to understand where the Grinch is coming from. And how I see August May Who is the real antagonist of the story. The way he treated Cindy and Grinch makes me feel disgusted.

@@eleanorhogan8643 Yes, she let those children laugh, by joining in with them on the laughter, and Martha was the only one who didn't laugh, instead, she turned to her classmates and glared angerly at them, as if she was trying to say "Hey, that's not funny, knock it off!" but it didn't work, they paid no attention and just kept on laughing, that made Grinch so aggressive that he scared away his classmates with anger, fury, muscles, and aggression, that's when they stopped laughing and started screaming, whimpering, and crying in fear and what they thought was danger, all the Who kids, except Martha, were being naughty and stupid, Grinch hated those Whos because of the way they treated him, the only Who that Grinch had feelings for was Martha, and after so many years being cooped up in his cave for as much as he could to stay away from the Whos, he was partially depressed because he missed Martha, until one Christmas Eve, he fell on Martha's breasts by mistake, yet, she enjoyed every second of it, that's my favorite scene, Grinch accidentally shoving his face between Martha's breasts.

This scene is so heartbreaking every time

I was 11 when this came into theaters. The infidelity joke went over my head. My mom had a woman for a boss at her job so that’s probably part of the reason. That was a great scene and explains the Grinch’s attitude towards Christmas very well.

And at 6:34, the way he looked at Martha-I think he was fully aware that Martha is the only one who the nicest to him, but it’s understandable that he couldn’t bear the embarrassment, nor he presumably didn’t want her to suffer the humiliation, which is another possible fact why he ran away. 💔💔😔😔🙁🙁🏫🏫 Poor Grinch in this scene. Augustus not only ruined that Christmas Day, but he wrecked the Grinch’s childhood.

I can feel the pain, he went through poor guy. Can't help but sympathize.

There's something we all should know about Christmas, a time where friends and family come together, not just having presents and gifts

The Cat In The Hat. He wrecked an entire house for shits and giggles. Sure, he fixed it. But it was still a crappy thing to do. Aside from that? Nobody. Horton and the Mayor deserved the vindication earned near the end of the movie, especially with how Jane and the Council treated them. The Lorax only wanted what was best for the forest and tried to warn the onceler that his tree-cutting business would ruin their home overtime. Guy Am I started out as a cranky so-so but thanks to Sam I Am, he was able to change his outlook on life.

I always paid attention to that as a kid as a subtle thing. It was a turnoff to me

I watched this movie countless of times when I was a kid. Now this origin story hits differently. When little Grinch climbed up the mountain and standing on top with a breathing that came out sad, angry and heartbroken... I just bawled my eyes out!!

I thought that angel he made was beautiful. He should have gone to the barber's after school. He did try his best to shave, it was not his fault that he got it wrong.

Saying this now as a teacher myself, you expect the kids to laugh and not give a second thought to the Grinch's feelings. But the adult in this situation, the teacher should know better. Even if she found it funny she should clearly be able to tell the laughing was hurting the Grinch's feelings and should've told the kids to knock it off or even pull the Grinch to the side and give him a hug or some sort of reassurance that things will be okay. She did neither. I hate teachers like that as a kid and as an adult. That mess is traumatic to a child and all they remember is not even the teacher was on their side.

6:05 Very rude and unacceptable, a teacher joining in with her students on the laughter on something that isn't funny, and I have autism, and I had classmates teasing me for being autistic, and my teachers and bus drivers would never discipline them for it, I got so aggressive like the Grinch that I ROARED at my harassers severe enough that I tried to be scary to them and make them afraid of me so that I could be left alone, but it didn't work.

The older I get, the more I realize Martha May and the Grinch were the tragic heroes of the story.

This moment touched me. It proved to me that Martha wasn't just dim-witted attention-seeker like I'd assumed. When she picked up that broken gift, tears in her eyes, I saw that she did indeed have a heart. She cared for the Grinch.

The film is very similar to Disney version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame as like Quasimodo, Grinch is thought to be a 'monster' and Augustus like Frollo is thought to be the 'man' but in reality it's the other way round as Grinch while a mischievous guy is deep down a good hearted guy while Augustus is the monster for his bullying and racism to Grinch.
