Counterpoint: If you already in a tunnel long and safe enough to let you set up an effective ripper you weren't in any real danger to begin with. Drillers in bunker tunnels are already ridiculously safe/powerful - it doesnt make a lot of sense to also bring a tunnel focused nade when the other options provide a good out of tunnel option, when you *aren't* already at your strongest

Woah, I had no idea the axes could destroy vines permanently, that's awesome
@generalketzer6444
Жыл бұрын
well. Every kind of damage can permanently remove them ^^ Axes used to one-shot the vines untill season 3. But is seems the axes got a damage reduction against environmental hazards like the vines, electric cristals and other stuff like this. Now you need 4 axes to permanently remove a vine. But you can also just right-click hit them with your pickaxe 4 times as well to permanantly remove them. So unless your throw-animation-canceling is good enough that you can throw out 4 axes before the vine retracts, it's faster to just right click them a few times to permanently remove them. It's kinda odd to still mention the axes in that matter without mentioning throw-animation-canceling as well in 2023 since the axe change was in november 2022.

Its more because driller already eats shits and breathes area of effect with his primaries and secondaries, except the poor subata. If you are in a tunnel some goo will stop them and they are screwed or some fire will easily fry them meanwhile the impact axe gives something more useful on demand high damage for single targets where the ripper gives some meh damage that will blend grunts but driller already rocks that role with his weapons.

for me the ripper works not only on chokepoints but in open areas as well when you are sorrounded and need some breathing room to reload or run towards somewhere, just throw the grenade in that general direction and will open a path for you also when you are running and kiting a swarm, the bugs will mostly follow you in a line, so you can just throw the ripper towards that line and one of the most satisfying things is to have a downed teammate full of bugs on top of him, and you just throw a ripper on their general direction and the grenade just SWEEPS every single bug on top of him also, the ripper is probably the most long range grenade there is on the game, and the only long range AOE weapon avaiable to driller so, if you can make an imaginary line vertical on your screen, and predict exactly where the ripper is gonna go, you can snipe groups of bugs on doretta, pipes, fallen friends, or other objectives where lots of bugs will be on, you can even snipe enemies on cellings, i saved several matches by killing a menace, acid spitter or even cave leech on the roof with a well placed ripper throwing the ripper on tunnels is just the easiest way to deal a lot of friendly fire, since you are probably the only one who know exactly the line which the ripper is going to move on
For Driller, most of the primary and secondary build options are CC and damage over time-focused, so the axes and rippers are invaluable for most builds as a "something needs to die NOW" button. Also the axe synergy with vampire is incredibly useful, as is the ability to clear a lot of different stage hazards with axes.

Incendiary grenades are awesome, I main them all the time. Here are a few reasons why: 1. with NTP/Fear the DoTs alone can kill slashers and guards, if ignited 2. They insta-delete ground turret placements 3. They can be used to cover flanks and act as a sound-based warning when bugs walk into the fire 4. Dude. Fire.
this guy talks about deep rock like it is a philosophical ideology, a state of mind and body
Another great video! And I learned a few new things as well, I will try my best to incorporate some of them into my builds tomorrow. Thank you for all those tips and tricks!
It makes me happy to see videos like this. Getting to make creative, but also very effective, builds is a large part of enjoying games I think. I wish for more people to have this mentality to play in a way where they get good results from trying and thinking things out.
I absolutely love the grenades in this game, they complement each class so well and the way they can integrate with the main weapons is fantastic. Like the scout, his grenades freeze, distract, slow and stun. 3 of those allow you to line up a shot with the garand that pierced 3 enemies, potentially in their weak spot which preserves ammo and kills faster. Or you could melt them with the drak overload, or potentially even a shotgun. But then of course the engineer could come by with a plasma grenade or gl shot. It’s brilliant
Tbh I like the devs approach with ripper. Its not a good grenade for driller, he doesnt need more anti swarm. But is it fun to use? Absolutely, and thats what matters in fun casual games like drg
I like the toxin grenades on Driller. Not for any gameplay reasons (though mass slowing like half a cave can be quite neat) but because it really adds to the aesthetic of being a war criminal.
Your take on Gunner mirrors my experience a lot. There are some simple combos like shield or using stun to keep bugs in incendiary aoe. They've been great at filling specific gaps. Leadburster completed one of my fav builds which is bullet hell and coil(any OC). The build is effective but its biggest blind spot was bulks. LB solved that and then some.
You don't even need a tunnel to make the Ripper work. If you just drill a sort of C-shaped hole in the ground with a bridge of terrain going over the gap, it'll spin around the bridge (if you throw it perpendicular to the bridge in the middle of it) very rapidly, damaging anything that steps over it. You can make these really quickly, too, and I've used them in dreadnought fights. They do tons of damage. Only problem is that your Engineer might think the hole needs patching and ruin your trap.
exellent video, in both content and editing :)

One thing about the aggressive venting OC on the plasma carbine, you can trigger the flame AOE heat dump as soon as the gun's heat meter hits 50%, if you forgoe all heat mitigation upgrades you can use this to turn the gun into a mini flame grenade that shoots plasma, letting you wave clear bugs ridiculously fast with little ammo use
@jackrinaldi5579

Sounds similar to gunner's burning hell OC, fires a cone shaped heat projection with every shot, at the cost of doubling heat buildup. It's so ridiculously efficient being able to quickly catch small groups on fire at the cost of a few bullets.
Shout out to Max!
The cryo grenade of the scout is one of the best. Getting swarmed? Just freeze them all, do a power attack and spray them down with the assault rifle or whatever weapon. Pretorian? Just freeze it and blast it with a power attack to the weakspot and a pair of jumbo shell shotgun blasts. 100 to 0 isntant kill combo. You can just freeze flying enemies, even breeders, and they just fall out of the sky and shatter. You can even freeze opressors and dreadnaughts, but it takes two grenades.
This is precisely the video I needed. I feel like I struggle way too much with making Gunner's grenades useful.
About your point with Grenade-build synergy; I've got a really good scout build I like that's actually really good at horde-clearing; I noticed that Bodkin Points on a max-damage crossbow makes it a -3 grunts key, and that combined with Zaparang makes even the most Ambushy of waves a breeze and a half. Add on a DPS Armor-breaking GK2, and I can absolutely CHEW through even the toughest of waves up through haz 4 with relative ease. This even leaves room for GREAT Single-target DPS with the Electric Bolts, making Hordes, Oppressors, and Bulks all Easily Handled... by a SCOUT build.
A lure to the left and a lure to the right, and I am nuking this bastard bugs every other night, and if the party is over if the fun has to end, can you GG for me, my friend?
I really enjoy using the L.U.R.E. grenade with turret EM discharge on SMG and plastcrete catalyst on shard diffractor. Shoot a platform onto the wall, toss a L.U.R.E. onto it, then blow it up from below, or just attract all the bugs to a sentry or two and pop them with an electric storm.
I love the lead burster so much that I run friendly on my gunner
The great thing about a weapons/class system is the diversity of gameplay within the gameplay archetype of that class. Its part of why i loved TF2 so much and DRG. Both games werent like this on launch though the magic of post launch updates.
Good Video, keep it up! :D
I think next we need a hat and beard tier list.
prolly my fav grenade is the drillers he grenade, it just feels so good to cook the grenade perfectly and kill the vast majority if not all of the bugs in a group
Will say the decoy is massively underrated. It’s dual purpose: group enemies for easy slaughter. Aggro- control. It’s really like a shield. A weak-sauce shield, but still a shield, as most enemies will seek it out. It’s also useful for most mission types - yes, including dreadnaughts - the hive guard spawns chase decoys.

Right? I think so too lol 😆 like we're on ancient technology 🤣
When I joined a group for the first time, the driller’s ripper grenade is what almost killed me (and it was my first haz4) 😂 Managed to avoid all the mobs and even help my team by kitting them (scout), only for driller to almost kill me. And this wasn’t C4, so it doesn’t count towards the “scout sacrifice” ritual
i think there is a small technique when throwing the shredders too. when an enemy(group) is far away, the shredders wont go attack it so i use dash boost and throw the grenade there and deal with them
To be honest, the only underpowered granades are the sticky and the HE granades, they are just overshadowed in overall utility and damage by the others. Espetialy sticky but i guess it realy is just the baseline for granades, and HE can be usefull, but requires a lot of getting used to than the others.

4:13 - The Engie yet again employing the power of the sun in all his armaments
this is all food for thought from someone who plays haz 5 exclusively and the perspective of someone who will be playing with a wide variety of players with different skill levels and comprehension of DRG's mechanics. Gunner's Best Grenade: incendiary Reason, Often times large groups of enemies will be converging on your location and in Hazard 5 friendly fire damage actually matters, the incendiary does very low friendly fire damage and with the shield can be combo'd to go and push bugs back into the fire or to create a path the fire will spread allowing one to make the bugs travel differently. These also work super well on various other enemies and hazards such as Bursters and Robots in general and combo super well for teammates using temp shock status. Gunner's Worse Grenade: Tactical leadburster Reason, While Tactical leadbursters are very fun and cool this comes from the prospect of playing on Hazard 5 where Friendly Fire can do a lot of damage or be lethal Plus on dreadnaught missions you can trigger the fight from across large expanses as the leadburster's Radius is not small and one spike hitting the cocoon will trigger the dreadnaught. Lead Bursters also tend to shoot around getting unpredictable results which is no good when you need the ability to know what bugs will die when you toss a grenade. Cluster bombs would be a close to leadbursters in terms of bad but their saving grace comes from the fact they are timed detonations and are fairly predictable albeit inconvenient in open caves, same issue as leadburster insane friendly fire Damage. Engineer's Best Grenade: S.S.G Reason, it summons minions for 40 seconds that slow and destroy enemies with ease and works in all situations and by far the best grenade in the game and it doesn't friendly fire. Worse grenade: Proximity Mine Reason: often times doesn't trigger on things you need it to trigger on or triggers awkwardly and wipes your team out if you decided to be that guy and make the popcorn machine, then the fact it's outclassed completely by S.S.G and the friendly fire damage is moderately awful on proximity mines but not as bad as Leadburster or Cluster Bomb. Scout's Best Grenade: Cryo Grenade Reason, Cryo grenades can address swarms and fliers with ease and friendly fire damage doesn't do a lot of actual damage but more of fills the cold meter, it combo's insanely well with Feedback loop and other overclocks and even the double barrel where you use heat to burn enemies to death for shock status. Worse Grenade: Pheromone Canister Reason: In good Squads you have almost no reason to use this grenade over cryo because the bugs you cover in the Pheromones will die before it's purpose is fulfilled for a few seconds OR the bugs A.I goes nuts and still attacks the squad anyways. It's unpredictable and honestly isn't reliable in Hazard 5. Driller's Best grenade : Impact Axe Reason: Extremely strong Single Target Damage and Utility grenade that gets rid of vines and mushrooms and other hazardous environmental things others can't as easily as well as the trick shot which allows it to kill enemies without consuming the charge meaning more axes for free. do to driller being primarily anti-swarm the Impact Axe helps Driller a LOT when it comes to single target damage. I know C4 exists but that's for the scout's face tbh we all know it. Worse Grenade: HE Grenade it tends to be simple and straight forward, it's not bad per se but isn't good in anti swarm like neurotoxin grenade and not better than the impact Axe in terms of Raw Damage for single target so it's just the victim grenade of filler that isn't needed over axes or neurotoxin even the springer grenade does it's job but slightly better. NOTES The Proximity Grenade trick to melt a Dreadnaught is by no means a consistent way to deal massive damage nor feasible in most scenarios do to things like Hiveguards being immune to damage unless you reveal all the weakpoints and even then it's iffy. the twins coming up right under it won't take damage, so the only dreadnought that the proximity grenade trick possibly works on is the regular as shown but in most scenarios in Haz 5 it will not work because if any bug triggers your popcorn maker aka a pile of proximity mines you just wasted a bunch of nitra you could have used 1 S.S.G to get the near same results over 40 seconds. I am also convinced that the gameplay 9:58 was not on Haz 5 but possibly Haz 3 because that tri-jaw died with only 5-6 shots from the loki Hmmm.... but also on Haz 5 a menace isn't going to die to a single proximity mine, they only do 110 area damage. People do the same trick with Scout and driller's embedded detonators and born ready perk so they can fill the dread with a bunch of detonators without reloading then pop it, unless this was patched this would probably be a little more consistent for popping a dreadnaught instantly. Most of the video is showing optimized scenarios in which you have optimal amounts of Nitra, and teammates that are competent that is not realistic of DRG at all at haz 5 because Haz 5 makes most people even good players panic and have their own methods and ideas.
Great video, instantly subscribed! Loved your editing, pacing and comment style! A few questions, how does the wave cooker synergize with the sludge pump? Were you referring to the contagion transmitter mod? Which OC do you run with that? So far I've been sticking to the EPC when running the sludge pump, just to light everything on fire. No idea which one works better (strictly regarding the goo/corrosion synergy)!
@TheLegendOfFLG

Thank you friend 🙂 I would use epc for fire and other utilities because when I run wavecooker instead it's usually because another player is there to light the goo on fire. I don't recall the oc and I must have not included it in the vid. I believe it's a blowthrough rounds oc. So when a ton of enemies are frozen, it will get all of them at the same time and they all shatter. Though I've used the other overclocks as well. It's a great follow up to cryo, fire and goo. But personally I'm too attached to the epc to give it up unless it's a combo build with a friend like I said👍
@Diogenes.of.Sinope
Жыл бұрын
depends on the mission and my specific loadout, but I've gotten a huge amount of mileage (ammo efficiency+solid burst damage while still complementing driller's DOT) by running contagion transmitter with blistering necrosis (the blowthrough OC is nice as well but can be IMO a bit tetchy at times, less useful vs high health single targets like prae, mehnace, dreads). penalties from BN are negligible as the wave cooker isn't used for direct damage, only to proc neuro, while the blisters actually push drillers single-target game *and* his utility as an ailment machine to a whole new level since the blisters have kinda weird weakpoint interactions. Check out LazyMaybe's channel (his og video on the wave cooker and then the one about the patch it got) for a detailed breakdown on how all that works more or less. as with *all* build recs you should try it out for yourself, YMMV. I personally feel it's comparable dps (no hard numbers for this) to flame/cryo+temp shock only it's built for sludge.
I would watch the four hour version of the video
"I wanna see what he has to say about my favorite grenade (shredders)" "i'm gonna skip it because they're just good" "ah, i see" (liked and subbed)
As a Driller main, I usually use my secondaries for single target, use my C4 as an AoE/Single Target hybrid damage to just ANNIHILATE the biggest enemies or as a last ditch effort to eecape a hoard if I'm in a sticky situation. With my flamethrower being focused on slowing/AoE using sticky flames. And my Axes being mainly for single target/vampirism. Its been working out pretty well but something I didn't know about was that the Friendly Fire Perk reduces explosive damage on yourself too. Something to experiment and test with on Hazard 4 to see how it feels when my C4 does like, 600+ damage XD

This is all very sound advise, & I probably cannot offer you much in the way of further advise except for how the HE Driller Grenade is obviously the best weapon in the game. But did you also know, that if you don't rock and stone, you aint comin' home?
There should be an option to just throw all your grenades at once but the range is super short so it could kind be like a kamikaze or last ditch effort.

I was doing a haz 3 escort mission and a bulk spawned, and died immediately to a leadburster. Absolutely wild
I die a litttle inside every time I watch someone resupply at full ammo just for grenades.
There is like grenade cutting edge technology but in the end the best throwing weapons are axe abd boomerang.
Driller main here. I love saturating an area with gas grenades and sticky flames and just bathing in a sea of damage-over-time carnage
Not enough driller players appreciate the value you can get out of HE ‘nades. It’s like axes, but you get half as many of them and they do less damage. It’s great for people who want just the least useful grenade ever.
The ripper grenade is good when you get pushed by rockpock maggots
11:33 Meawhile, I just make builds based on a character that I've made with cosmetics. Like "this is an spec-ops guy, whom had problems with authoraty and was thrown out. Saw good pay at this 'deep rock' company, so he wnet there with his trusty BRT7 pistol." Than I ask him what would be his primary. "The big guns arent of my taste but the Hurricane kills bugs in a way that makes me happy." The other build was based on a cowboy with his six shooter, so on and so forth. A soft-role play.

If you think the ripper is bad, its not. Its straight 160 damage every time it hits an enemy for about 8 seconds straight, that can hit the same enemy multiple times. Even on Escort Duty it can straight up delete entire waves of Glyphids per use, as long as you can just muster up the 2 braincells you need to throw it orthogonally to the tunnel walls. Same goes for the HE grenade and Gas. If you just cook the HE a bit you can easily toss it at groups and get rid of huge chunks of swarms like they're small satchel charges. And the gas slows them down as they enter in a way that gathers them together to make your primaries hit even more Glyphids in one spray than they already could even when you're not igniting it.
Hard to swallow fact: Axes do 0 damage and are useless without cryo.
Those who say the Ripper is too situational don't remember what driller does. What do you think he can do? Drill tunnels? What are the Ripper grenades good in? Tunnels? So he can just make a chokepoint to use the ripper at anytime he wants
“but the ripper only works in tunnels” my brother in karl drillers job is to make tunnels
The one grenade I wanted to know more about wasn't reviewed, the shredders😢
I did'nt know that Creeper Vines can get rid with impact axe permantly.
I played with you the other day, i had no idea lmao
My grenades usually are impact axe, leadburster, shredder swarm, and voltaic stun sweeper. Impact axe i use because it does alot of damage to single targets, which means i dont have to use my satchel charge on them more often (which is good because you can only carry like 3). Driller has 0 problem with smaller enemies so this fills out the single target dps nicely. Leadbursters for gunner are great for many reasons. My biggest one however being bulk shredding. The fact that i can use 2-3 grenades, depending on my aim, and annihilate a bulk instead of having my entire team waste ammo on trying to bring it down makes them invaluable to me. It nearly makes detonators into a non-threat if you are at the right place and time. As for shredders, a variety of reasons. I dont like using prox mines much because i heavily dislike the idea of having one go off at my feet because i wasnt paying attention while being chased, but otherwise i usually have some trouble making some distance between myself and close up enemies with engie. The shredders are the perfect "fire and forget" solution to that. And the voltaic stun sweeper is just so good. If i miss, i don't waste a nade. If i hit, it makes the enemies stop in their tracks, perfect for weakpoint shots. The best part of course being the ammo. 7 grenades, nearly double the ammount you get out of scout's other options. And again, bulks! It can bring even a bulk detonator to a full stop with one throw! Whats not to love?
2:01 So glad I’m not the only one! 😅
no-one is talking about how op the lead bursters are. those things solo bulk detonators
And when the Satchel and the Sawblade have children no Friend would remain un-blasted.
The issue is there are some maps/games where ammo is scarce. So if you're running an ammo hungry build in one of those , it's night night.

Keep watching my vids, this is technically wrong but I understand how the majority of people would think this and experience this. There is actually always more than you need, but it's based on the time it takes to get it and when people are grabbing it. Like I said, there's a couple ammo rules and strategies I have to go over first to make this viable. But I assure you, its viable in all missions, deep dives, at all times. 5 years of experience and over 100 dives doing this :)
I wish we could rotate the sawblade. if i could turn it 90 degrees and still throw it, it'd be much more fun to position.

Agreed, I was probably too casual about it in this video and in hindsight should have spent more time on it. Because you do have to throw it in a way that you might get hit once immediately before you can move out of the way. So turning it 90 degrees could be easier to throw. Or perhaps if you throw it down it doesn't go straight but to the left or right, so you can throw it at the front of a tunnel, rather then having to stand up at the front of a tunnel to set it up.
I want the hours long version
Florbellgorbelmen is coming for my flesh
I think some of the comments are missing the point; this video shows how to make the MOST out of any given grenade, not that you HAVE TO play it like that lol. Also lure with fat boy is absolutely sick, such an excellent combo if you are using voice to tell your team what you are doing so they don’t waste ammo

Agreed, I will try and do better to verbalize that more in my videos. Especially because I have several loadouts that don't use grenades that way at all. Agreed, it's truly earning insane kills consistently for a while now. Especially if you've got your turrets shooting into that area on top of it.
I find the spring loaded ripper is less useful on PC due to being able to have more control over your axes, but yeah they are alright
What about the HE grenade? It's my favourite and it's great with my sludge pump + heavy hitter epc build
Shredder swarms are great for swarmer control
Everything working together = Synergy.
25:03 768 Kills. Almost double the amount the other 2 had combined. My Lord...
Jesus, this can be made into SUCH a higher-level game than I thought (my boyfriend refuses to play on anything higher than Haz2)
you should not have told me that i can super throw a satchel charge horrible things are about to happen
