Ойын-сауық

Something I'm just considering now: blood stone could also metaphorically refer to a ruby, a blood red stone. Like rhaegar's rubies, which fell like symbolic blood drops into the Trident where he died. From a hammer. From a horned man. So blood stones fell bc of a hammer. That was on the water. Funny little word play from George

  • @DavidLightbringer

100% that's an exact parallel. And it happened at the green fork of the trident, so, in the green see. Rhaegar's rubies re 100% a meteor shower of fiery and bloody dragons, you got it! Check out weirwood compendium 1 for all the examples of this pattern, which is GRRM's version of the classic storm god and dragon-slaying myth

@@DavidLightbringer also present in Elden Ring. Btw Aegon's prophecy reminded me a lot of a prophecy that Merlin supposedly made that influenced Henry VII. George is from Bayonne which is about 45 minutes from where I live and if you look at a map of Westeros it is modeled after England that is for sure but take a look at King's Landing & then take a long look at the coast of New Jersey. Especially the Perth Amboy/Raritan bay area.

Prophecy has a magical effect where people tend to make it come true. Look at Cyrus the Great, his grandfather feared that a descendent of his would usurp him so he ordered Cyrus's death. Only to be usrped by the boy he tried to slay

Had a thought washing dishes and listening in. There are five previous Kings Aegon. If Jon’s true name is Aegon, and fAegon is coronated in King’s Landing but then eats it, he’d be the seventh at least potential King Aegon. Incidentally, the last aspect in the order of the Faith of the Seven is the Stranger, symbolizing outsiders and death itself. Jon is a good model for the stranger, bastard, dead, a norm breaker and change agent unpopular enough for assassination, and it adds a nice little ironic twist to have Faith numerology inform us on someone who worships the old gods.

I agree with your optimism on GRRM. He was really starting to alienate a lot of people, but then he changed and opened up. Anyone not a psycho loves GRRM and his work even if they are frustrated with the timing. I get the argument you are not owed anything as a fan, but fans are why GRRM has been able to do so much with his world and I appreciate that he has started to become more honest, open and generally more pleasant with the fandom.

Spot on about Azor Ahai and the Night's King. I also believe he was Brandon Gardener (AKA Brandon of the Bloody Blade) who was stripped (made stark) of his name and set up his own kingdom at Winterfell. The night's king is at the bottom of the Winterfell litchcellar.

I wonder if the "hinge of the world" Mel describes at the wall is because of that weirwood at The Nightfort. I bet she could do some spooky stuff if she burned it! Also I think George made a comment about needing to figure out a character's name before he can do anything with them, which is why all of the names have so much meaning when you dig into them.

I’ve really missed the live-streams… always a fun supportive environment… thanks as always Dave, and of course to all the fine folks in the chat. More on the topic of edibles… smaller consistent doses in the morning (or whenever you take your first meal or honestly in the evening if that’s more your style ;), and CDB blends can help. It’s unfortunate the healthiest method of ingestion is inherently more complicated cause they take effect in such a different way. My best advice would be listen to your own body. Burning herb is way more consistent and reliable, cause you don’t have to worry about what is or isn’t in your stomach. It’s obviously unhealthy to breath burnt carbon, buts it’s also by no means uncommon in the modern world. I used to swim at the college level and and the amount of time I spent breathing heavily in a chlorinated environment was the equivalent to smoking two packs a day. Running on the sidewalk next to a highway isn’t great compared to running that same distance on a trail. It’s about balance and variety and general mindfulness as much as moderation. People kill themselves way more dramatically/directly in the obsessive pursuit of health though, so you’re already way ahead of the curve by my reckoning 😁 Whenever my parents come to visit me I buy a pen. That’s mostly to cut back on smell. They don’t necessarily NOT hurt my lungs they just make them feel shitty in a different way. That said, they’re quite powerful and consistent in that same way you’re probably used and maybe prefer.

THANK YOU for talking about Bedwick AKA Giant!! I'm _obsessed_ with this character, who's so overlooked. LOVE the ironic nickname (inverse of "Small Paul" or how in classic cartoons with gangsters there's always a refrigerator-sized guy named "Tiny") Giant's appearance, skills and behavior screams CotF to me, and I think it's a strong hint to interpret the "Wake giants from the earth" line as actually referring to the CotF. Thank you for a lovely stream and take care of your voice! 🌿🍯🫖

I have a suggestion, and it comes from a place of wanting to help your throat feel better, hopefully it doesn’t come across like I’m an asshole: Have you tried playing with the gain on your mic? Maybe if you increased that, you could speak at a much lower volume? I’m sure we could all get behind a change like that in the interest of putting less strain on your voice/throat. Anyways, love the streams (I often miss them and watch VODs afterwards), you always have a lot of interesting insight and commentary!

Two thoughts Would be cool if Cold Hands was one of the original 12 companions or even the last hero himself, whatever fukkery happened during the Long Night he ends up being an ice zombie and now doesn't belong to the realms of men he gave his life to defend, so now his duty is to keep The Others in check with the surviving children and The Three Eye Crow (assuming it is a title passed along) The oath to open the Weird Wood gate might be shorter because they have been adding shit to it through the years, but the door is so old that it works with the original, shorter oath of the watch.

After a previous video about the nightfort where you talk about the 79 sentinels, you said the number does not mean anything. But with nummerology its a specific number. 1st its got 7 in it from the faith of the seven, 2nd 9 is 3x3 a divine number. If you at 7+9=16 then 1+6=7 you again get a 7. Also a holy number its about magic, birth and death and inner wisdom. So if you then take the number 79 it makes more sense for why hé choose this number

You've spoken many times about what might have convinced the first men to suddenly change their religion. It may be as simple as "seeing is believing". Imagine primitive (likely superstitious) men seeing magical powers in action for the first time. If an actual religious figure such as Odin or Jesus walked through Sacramento today and demonstrated their powers, there'd be new churches popping up tomorrow.

I'm still not sure of the green men as a separate race; a lot of me still likes the alchemical-like transformation of a bronze first king, being drowned by the children of the forest at the neck (I agree that they absolutely didn't do the arm of dorne, that has absolutely never made sense, but it does feel more like water magic of some sort at the neck) and growing a green patina (which you can grow on your skin), and reviving himself but totally changed and now a type of greenseer and skinchanger. Basically the story of patchface (a lot of his rhymes of the sea involve transformation), who who has seer properties himself. But I love the idea of the children of the forest resurrecting the last hero's companions as the start of the night watch. That makes complete sense as to what their purpose was. And what's interesting is that the purported children of garth number 13 (although again the Stark connected is out of place, as the only northern family and only being maybe one of garths children). I also like that you pointed out that the weirwoods are never planted! it feels like weirwoods are almost like mushrooms, in that they "eat" the dead, i.e. living material deep in the earth or buried people, and sprout there. I also like the connected between Azor Ahai/Nissa Nissa and the Night's King/Queen. If you add the bloodstone emperor too, it's pretty telling that both the Night's King and the Bloodstone Emperor is accused of enslaving family/brothers and that creating the Others and creating dragons seems to involve some sacrifice of people you should be protected like family or children. Great video!

In one of the early chapters of Hamlet's Mill, there is a Vedic story about a priest/god/king who has to make a journey somewhere, where other men cannot tread. However, he is so beloved by his comrades that they insist on journeying with their leader. All of the King's companions die. I can't remember the rest, but it definitely reminds me of the last hero and in a sense, the Night's Watch. it's also reminiscent of Enoch being the only human to ever be taken to heaven in his full human form. Other apocrypha suggest Enoch becomes the angel Metatron, who is almost as powerful as God. Perhaps, GRRM is referencing the precession? Each of the last hero's companions could represent a sign of the zodiac. They could be the inverse parallel to the Night's Watch under the guidance of the Lord Commander who became bewitched by the Corpse Queen. The last hero's companions willingly die to help the hero in his cause. The Lord Commander, with the help of Corpse Queen, bewitches his fellow watchmen so that they are void of free will. Night's King becomes more godlike.

I am rewatching this and drinking: - every time you cough; - when you laugh at your own wit; - when I hear bird noises; - when you answer a question from the chat; There's your drinking game. I'm 10 minutes in and already fuzzy lol

I saw Dave grohl do a cover of Copa cabana and you look like you could be his younger brother when you both have the beard. Happy new year brother, and to all the fellow heretics.

"13" in these cases always struck me as being used like "40" is in the OT of the Christian Bible, and I presume in the Torah, as a place holder meaning "a big number".

Same. As soon as I read that NK was the 13th LC and also reigned for 13 years, I immediately thought that it was not a literal, factual number. I mean it's an oral history passed down for thousands of years, it seems really likely that the details got blurry and this unlucky number was a lot easier to remember than the actual facts.

@@SoCalledGodessplus Sam's reading in the archives seems to indicate that Jon is not really the 999th LC, so GRRM is using that as a teaching moment that the numeracy of the LCs is not to be trusted.

Also, Bran getting told not to raise the dead might be foreshadowing that he may try to rez Jon when he senses Jon is dead. 🤔

The children helped organize the Watch, and on the Other side of the wall, did they set up the Other's watch to keep the Westerosi on their side of the Wall...and the free folk were trapped and sh@t out if luck? Did the children think their magic put the Other's asleep under the snow, but it's not holding anymore?

That’s never been the way I’ve seen it, but that’s an interesting idea. I tend to think the children did not create the Others as they did on the show. Rather, I think Azor Ahai / Nights King stole and misused the weirwood magic to make the Others

On the ambiguity of "Man who lead the night's watch" vs Lord Commander: What does it do to the picture of Night's King to add on characters who have fit that exact wording without being LC? Off the top of my head that adds Ser Waymar, Benjen, & Donal Noye. Also there's something to be said for the rangers following Mance's trail making (former crow) Mance a form of "man who leads the Night's Watch." Like being lead by the crone's light. A crow crone.

The wall is built up slowly through the years, it was definitely low enough for the Nights King to see the Corpse Queen in some detail. Also, I wonder if this was what got the black brothers rule of not marrying?

Since the map of Westeros supposedly is Ireland upside down, I wonder if any of the important locations on the Westeros map relate to important location on the Ireland map as far as mythology goes.

Perhaps retrieving nissanissas spirit broke the weirwoods to the point where spirits started escaping and they are the others, then the green men/children of the forest and humans were like oh shit we all gon die now unless we work together to fix it

About a month ago I got the notion that coldhands could be a skin-changer in a dead body, and I really liked to hear other people connecting him with skin-changing too.I don't think it is 100% certain that Jon is in fact dead though. He was stabbed, and he warged ghost, but why would that mean that he is dead? I think his body could die later after he got more experience with his skin-changing abilities.

Because he was bleeding out from the jugular after the first wound to his neck. He puts his hand to his wound and the blood “wells up” immediately beneath his fingers. That’s a jugular wound. You don’t feel those because not many nerve endings there, so Jon didn’t think he’d been cut deep. But the blood flow says yes. That’s why he loses feeling so fast and can’t grip his sword. And loses consciousness before the fourth knife, which he didn’t feel. He was gone by then. So yeah he’s dead. 100%.

Was rewatching GoT s1 the scene where Ned has to execute the NW deserter and Put down Lady (leading to bran awakening) got me wondering whether this practise was in place to “feed” the sword ice or present as many opportunities as possible for the starks blood magic to do its thing or get stored up for later. Kinda like the lords right to first night presenting opportunities to father more kids with the gift. Perhaps all the souls the starks have ever executed get stored im the crypts to bring back the old kings of winter like it was implied ladys death brought back bran, at least in the show

Speaking of binding his brothers to his will…. As soon as you said “wierwood magic” I thought “he’s warging them!” Plus if he is sacrificing to the others he could warging nights watchmen and sending them north of the wall then releasing them once they’re in others territory. This could also be the origin of warging people becoming such a taboo.

Really interesting material, but tough to listen to I’m sorry to say, because you were obviously struggling. I think it would be a great idea if you could cover this again when you are feeling better, whether you do it as a live stream or more of a recorded video. Because I think the ideas are well worth the listen.
